Are we infantilizing Gaijin? Of course adding a vehicle originally made and designed by the Chinese would be a controversy. Should it affect their choice? Nope.
Yeah this is generally it. The whole debate about what is a subtree is just “Any nation Gaijin wants with some level of connection that players from that nation don’t have an issue with”, maybe even just “Any nation Gaijin wants”.
Officially Gaijin don’t even give reasons for most subtrees, they just roughly look at what nations players talk about and do it, usually after adding one or two vehicles of that nation to test the waters.
The only thing I hope Gaijin does here is taking this player opinion from Indonesian players, not Chinese.
This is fairer for Indonesian players obviously since they are the main target audience, but it’s also fairer to Chinese players, since then Gaijin is forced appease them another way like actually treating their techtree properly instead of giving them a band-aid solution they really only mention in the first place because they are upset about the current state of their own tree.
on one hand I bought J-7D so I want to grind Rafale with that.
On the Other hand I have Japanese maxxed so there’s also taht.
To be fair if Gaijin start treating China properly and actually use the potential that’s there, there would be many equivalent or even superior options.
Some examples
J-15
J-16
J-10B TVC (I understand TVC isn’t that useful in-game, but I just really like this one)
J-10C
J-20
J-35
China is also currently not just the only nation with public (I’m not counting NGAD nobody has ever seen) 6th generation aircraft, but so far have made at least three different types of what seem to be armed aircraft already. So I think that J-7D is far from wasted.
I was also considering it, but I think it might be worth waiting fot a Rank 8 premium for China.
Yes , and Taiwan also can give some plane in BR12.7-13.7. Such as IDF, F16MLU with 9M ,F5 2000 and so on.
J16 is a really cas monster, hhh
F-CK-1 would be amazing
They could also add the ROCAF F-16V Block 70 and PLAAF Su-35S alongside their US/RU equivalents. China is really at a point where they can keep up with the major nations if Gaijin lets them.
The actual original mistake imho was making tech trees based on single, individual nations.
This makes it hard for tech trees to be equally appealing. It creates gaps and other problems we all know very well.
We’re too late in the game development cycle for Gaijin to simply redo the tech trees, but in practice, the tech trees are already becoming post national. The name and flag is still there, but the actual trees are evolving way past their original format. So, there’s no point thinking too hard about why X is in Y. It’s there because it’s convenient for the devs to flesh out that particular tree.
You said it yourself, it’s cost optimisation.
MMOs have to plan to stay around for incredibly long times. All the unique vehicles you’re thinking of will come to the game. Of course they will. If a combat vehicle exists, eventually it will be in War Thunder. But it’s not in their interest to get all the bangers out all at once.
For example, look at artillery. They have introduced the mechanic to multiple trees by giving everyone M44s, M55s and M109s. We also have a few unique ones in there, the PzH, the Vidar, the Sholef and so on.
What about Wespe, Hummel, Sexton, Priest etc?
They’ll come one at a time. Some in the tech tree, some in the BP, some as premiums or events. And this way, each of these vehicles will be a separate “point of interest” and you get 4 headlines instead of 1. But in the meantime everyone has access to the mechanic because they could make a vehicle six times and just distribute it to everyone.
From a business standpoint it looks pretty sensible to me.
They’ve given it to France and not Germany because France needs it more tbh. It’s that simple.
I think this is a valid point, Generally the updates tend to have one key noticable things separating each of them, its plausible that they’ve chosen to implement the more unique ones as a standalone to garner more attention to the updates. Why go all in one time when you can get multiple hits throughout the course of the bimonthly updates Its the reason why we didnt see the F-16 introduced in the same update as the Yamato, for instance.
But I also somewhat agree with this sentiment. I think how they go about adding “new” vehicles for the sub-trees in recent times is at the very least a cause for concerns. Hungary hasnt gotten a proper new vehicle in ages, Benelux still hasnt gotten a fully unique ground vehicles neither. Sure some were needed for lineups, but at the same time a balance of both c&p and unique designs should surely be implemented together?
Another concerns is how they model certain things. The Thai sub-tree coming has some vehicles which is purely the base model and not the actual ones used by Thailand, If they managed to make a new model for the Danish M24, then surely the Thai TTS & VADS can get its actual model no? If I recall the Thai TTS problem is the turret(CMIIW), The T-58 uses an in-game hull with a new turret, why cant the TTS get it? I understand its the dev server but at the same time the vehicles sometimes remain as the state it was from the dev server anyway.
Yep. To be clear, when I say stuff like “it makes sense from a business pov” I’m just illustrating what I think is the causality, not necessarily endorsing it. Gaijin is a company. As with any company, sometimes their interests and those of the players coincide. Sometimes they don’t. Sometimes different players have different interests because we want to play different things or have certain lineups be or not be meta… Etc etc.
I’m more patient with WT than the average forum member (as I see it) because to me this game is really without peer. But they’re still a company and their decision making is ultimately dictated by the relevant incentives.
Or are we?
Surely a moment where the tech tree got revamped into a more inclusive faction, squashing the tree number and makes it more streamlined gotta be less suck for player.
I would support that wholeheartedly. But I’m not exactly shocked that they prefer to change the substance and not the form. People get reeeally heated discussing these topics.
(I feel like this is appropriate now)
I agree
I believe there is a simplest method, which is to quickly add an Indonesian subtree and clearly position Thailand as a supplement to the Indonesian subtree, similar to the relationships between the UK, South Africa, and India. This way, there would be a valid reason for not including VT4 and Chinese vehicles in the Japanese tech tree.
We’re gonna get so many CVRT copy pastes (I feel it in the wind)
I would be extremely happy :3
It was more like the Dutch who claimed Indonesia where the enemies of Japan Indonesian nationalists used the Japanese occupation to set up their own Indonesian ran government
There’s so many an I want them ALLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLL
(this list is missing a lot of the export variants which all have subtle differences, but it would end up being a million times longer, also haven’t include the things that use CVRT turrets etc)
Green is in game, Orange is in game but not all operators, and red is “paper” thus can’t come.
