Thailand and Indonesia are the only two Southeast Asian countries that have strong ties with Japan: Thailand shares a historical alliance with Japan, while Japan facilitated Indonesia’s independence and contributed to the establishment of its military. Given the current state of Thailand’s subtree, Indonesia would be a valuable addition to the tech tree. The other ASEAN members lack similarly solid historical foundations for closer ties with Japan If they independent of their ASEAN affiliation.

I believe that period can be interpreted as follows: Indonesia was under Dutch colonial rule when the Pacific War broke out. In their pursuit of independence, the Indonesian people chose to cooperate with Japan. During the Japanese occupation, the foundational structure of the Indonesian state began to take shape, which objectively accelerated the process toward independence. In the subsequent Indonesian War of Independence, Japan also provided certain assistance. Although Indonesia had not yet been formally established as a sovereign nation at the time of Japan’s surrender, and no formal alliance existed between the two, it can be said that a relationship of cooperation was indeed present.
I agree, but if nothig would be said about it, gaijin would think its fine and then indonesia (or rather ASEAN) would go to china and we would have VT-4 for japan on current dev
The inclusion of the VT4 and other Chinese vehicles currently in Thai service is a subject of considerable controversy. I hope Gaijin will carefully reconsider adding these vehicles and refrain from introducing them to the Japanese tech tree, as this may currently be the best course of action. As for the gaps this may leave in Japan’s lineup, I believe they could be filled by vehicles from Indonesia or other nations

The funny thing is that France does not have any 5th generation jets, but it will receive from Gaijin the Dutch F-35s that were also built in Italy.
I see, but historically, the relationship between China and Indonesia hasn’t actually been that great. There have even been some intense conflicts, particularly in the 1960s and 1990s. It’s unreason for Indonesia to CN subtree.
Not entirely, there were some periods where we were quite chill, late 50s where we got La-9s, J-5, Tu-2s, etc. What the people usually have issues with is the current period regarding some issues up north
If it werent for that im pretty sure people would be a bit more open to the idea. Its similar to the VT-4 controversy, obviously external factors outside the game plays a key part
I don’t think I explained myself clearly the first time, but I really doubt that swapping the turret on a CV90—or on a Marder, given how common those platforms are in the game—takes the same amount of work as creating something like an AJAX from scratch, just to name another IFV.
So why would making a slightly modified 3D model require the same effort as starting from zero?
It’s likely because Japan and Indonesia have historically close relationships(post-war), but also Japan was requested by Indonesia for help during some revolts, and the Japanese Holdouts also helped them when pushing the Dutch out.
The tech trees are just convenient places to group vehicles and/or to fill gaps in BR lineups, they don’t mean any particular alignment other than geographical. The game “factions” don’t mean anything. Don’t overthink it. Gaijin surely doesn’t.
The game simply has outgrown the original WWII era organizational structure Gaijin created for the game.

Except many Indonesian would rather bleed than seeing Indonesian stuff appropriated by Mainland China.
Hell, may ASEAN would rather bleed. Thats how sour PRC and ASEAN relationship on the public level is. There’s less controversy among us Southeast Asian if we get our stuff in JP than in CN tree. You know how insane ASEAN keyboard warriors are.
Plus, as many has said, there’s infinitely more help from Japan during the formative years of Indonesia by the Japanese that opted to stay behind than there is assistance from Chinese side.

Are we infantilizing Gaijin? Of course adding a vehicle originally made and designed by the Chinese would be a controversy. Should it affect their choice? Nope.

Yeah this is generally it. The whole debate about what is a subtree is just “Any nation Gaijin wants with some level of connection that players from that nation don’t have an issue with”, maybe even just “Any nation Gaijin wants”.
Officially Gaijin don’t even give reasons for most subtrees, they just roughly look at what nations players talk about and do it, usually after adding one or two vehicles of that nation to test the waters.
The only thing I hope Gaijin does here is taking this player opinion from Indonesian players, not Chinese.
This is fairer for Indonesian players obviously since they are the main target audience, but it’s also fairer to Chinese players, since then Gaijin is forced appease them another way like actually treating their techtree properly instead of giving them a band-aid solution they really only mention in the first place because they are upset about the current state of their own tree.

on one hand I bought J-7D so I want to grind Rafale with that.
On the Other hand I have Japanese maxxed so there’s also taht.
To be fair if Gaijin start treating China properly and actually use the potential that’s there, there would be many equivalent or even superior options.

China is also currently not just the only nation with public (I’m not counting NGAD nobody has ever seen) 6th generation aircraft, but so far have made at least three different types of what seem to be armed aircraft already. So I think that J-7D is far from wasted.
I was also considering it, but I think it might be worth waiting fot a Rank 8 premium for China.
Yes , and Taiwan also can give some plane in BR12.7-13.7. Such as IDF, F16MLU with 9M ,F5 2000 and so on.
