In dev server we can see that Japan tech tree get Indonesian Mi-35. Recently, the Japanese tech tree was obtained the Thai sub tech tree, the reason given by gaijin is that Thailand was an ally of Japan during World War II. During World War II, Indonesia was a Dutch colony and was later invaded by Japan. After Japan’s defeat and surrender in 1945, Indonesia gained independence, so there is no reason to believe that Indonesia was a historical ally of Japan. And the Indonesian Mi-35 helicopter is not produced in Japan, so I don’t understand the reason why Indonesian vehicles joined Japan tech tree.
It’s Gaijin’s policy: as soon as they can, they throw into the trees re-edited models of existing stuff to stretch things out—Sherman, Leopard 2, Mi-24 and its variants, MiG-21 and MiG-29, F-18, etc. On one hand, it’s the players who ask for them; on the other, they optimize implementation costs by reusing small variations of existing models. That way, they can pour money into naval models—which I imagine must be insanely expensive (the complexity of a battleship is infinitely greater than that of a tank or an aircraft)—instead of making players happy by developing new vehicles or alternative, original versions with different armaments on already existing hulls
I remember in previous version updates, there was a leak about Gaijin wanting to add Singapore Leopard 2 to the Chinese tech tree, and many players resisted on the forum, resulting in the proposal being cancelled. Many players resisted because Singapore did not have a very strong connection with China (I think most of people in Singapore actually have Chinese ancestry, but of course they are closer to American allies, so I think it is correct not to add it to the Chinese tech tree). However, gaijin did not have any discussion this time, and no Indonesian vehicles were added to the Japanese tech tree before, so I don’t understand.
Leak ≠ Intentions, not every leak means something in certain that will happen, at least not on the very moment that said leak was published. The Indonesian Mi-35P being added to the Japanese tech tree doesn’t translate to Indonesia as sub-tech tree in Japanese tech tree.
WWII is not the complete background for the connection, since past WWII the countries kept friendly relations and players from this nation appreciated the idea of Thailand supporting Japan in the game.
For Indonesia this is very similar, where many Indonesian players support this idea due to assistance and good relations Japan held with Indonesia after the war. There is many suggestions of Indonesian vehicles and subtrees you can find here made by Indonesian players that explain this a lot better than I could.
Gaijin themselves want to avoid any political discussions, so the reasoning they bring is often not a focus beyond “X nation now is added here”, for example for India they never made an official statement, while for Thailand they only ever mentioned proximity in official releases.
I think the political aspects matter more to the players than to the developers. I wouldn’t make a big deal about why a nation ends up in one tree instead of another. Personally, I’d focus more on the original content we could be getting, rather than seeing the same stuff recycled endlessly and thrown here and there with some random excuse.
I’m not really interested in the political side of things, which is very subjective anyway and tied to each country’s own sensitivities. Honestly, I find it out of place—after all, it’s just a game. What I care about is more original and sensible game development.
For example, what are F-16s doing in the French tree? Was there really a need for that? On the flip side, why aren’t there more original vehicles? That’s just one example—I’ve got nothing against France or any other tree (I play almost all of them), but sometimes it’s disappointing to see the direction the game’s development has taken in recent years.
I don’t mind Indonesia being added to Japan because that means more FV101 Cope & Pastes /hj
Gaijin plz I just want my little guy
But this always requires some reasons. I think the connection between Indonesia and Japan is not strong, and many countries have friendly relations with each other, but they have not been added to the same technology tree.
Technically speaking, Indonesia was an enemy of Japan during World War II. I think this is also why today the Dutch Army has merged with the German Army, but the Netherlands still joined the French techn tree.
Can you give me some examples? I didn’t find any discussion on whether Indonesian vehicles should join Japan in this forum. I could only find one post discussing the Indonesian technology tree without a large number of replies.
we have 3 different configuration of the Scorpion 90 btw
Standard, w/ thermals, & w/ Laser Warning System
I feel as an Indonesian I can answer this question. It’s not a well known thing amongst the international community that Indonesian nationalists used the opportunity of the Dutch being kicked out to establish an Independent Indonesia whilst maintaining relationships with the occupying Japanese.
When Indonesia was invaded by Japan, the Japanese supported Indonesian independence. After Japan’s surrender, some of their supporters remained to fight against the Dutch for Indonesian independence. Many of them donated their weapons to the newly formed Indonesian Army. The Indonesian Air Force initially operated ex-Japanese fighters, bombers, and trainer aircraft, many of which were repaired by Japanese and Indonesian mechanics.
The Japanese expelled the former colonial rulers (the Dutch) and replaced them with Indonesians in administrative positions.
Japan’s rule and invasion of Indonesia did involve attrocities such as forced labour and resource plundering however their treatment compared to other invaded countries may be considered lax.
They established the Independence Preparatory Committee, trained the new Indonesian army (PETA), and transferred weapons, aircraft, and armored vehicles to Indonesia after Japan’s defeat and surrender.
These are no Japanese soldiers. They are Indonesian.
Some members of the Japanese army even fought for Indonesia in the subsequent War of Independence against the invading Dutch army.
Not really. After the war our nation was filled with either former indigenous KNIL troopers, Japanese soldiers who fight with the Indonesians , Indonesian Guerillas, Heiho members, etc.
Of course some region varied wildly in their treatment of and by the Japanese, but in general during the National Revolution the primary enemy is the Dutch (& Britain)
not to mention many of our first pilots of the Air Force were the Japanese themselves, they helped with repairing and actually flying the aircrafts
You’re right. This is such one example of one Narimasa Shinkai, who goes by Suhanda in Indonesia. He was the test pilot who flew the Bristol Blenheim re-engined with 2 Nakajima Sakae and the Instructor to Indonesian pilots in Maguwo Air-force Base’s flight school.
That third one looks interesting. Is the sight in photo similiar to the one found on that one swedish 2A5, ie. can be extended?
IIRC there’s even a “upgrade” with a 30mm ADEN, can’t find the article though, was a dead end from a few years ago. Edit, misremembered the Malaysian 20mm KAA modernisation
I just really like CVRTs lmao, I want everyone who could get them to get them yk?
With Indonesia that means the JP tree can have
FV101 (5.7)
Type 21 (Thai FV101 upgrade with Thermals and LRF) (7.3)
Scorpion 90 (LRF & STAB(?)) (8.7 with APFSDS, iirc they weren’t equipped with it, but it’s the single baffle break so it is compatable) (8.3 if the Mars 15 goes down)
Scorpion 90 (LWR) (8.7 Event?)
Scorpion 90 (Thermals) (9.0)
Which pleases me immensely.
Snail plz
The Third photo is of the LWS one. The middle one is the one with sights.
And AFAIK no
This other photo doesn’t show anything to suggest it can raise
Maybe you meant this one? It’s a Malaysian modernization of their Scorpoin 90 mounting a 20mm Rh202 (?) instead of the Cockerill cannon.
But if there was one with an ADEN cannon I missed that would be amazing, there can never be enough Scorpion variants
Malaysia also has the same unique smoke setup on their regular Scorion 90
Thats the one one! I must have fudge the details in my head, apologies, I’ll edit that out
https://www.malaysiandefence.com/scorpions-to-be-retired/
According to this article it’s a Oerlikon 20mm, and the muzzle break is a spitting image of the KAA model.
Take a FV101 modernisation as an apology.
Spoiler
Indonesia uses Japanese equipment in their military, and in general is on good terms with Japan.
@paolgand1975-psn
Making an entirely new 3D model, and making edits to an existing model cost the same in research and development.
