Why do so many people hate SPAAG

It’s a paper tank and Germany really doesn’t need it.

They’re still very outclassed, and America still has 0 competent options between 2.7 and 9.0

Why limit the player in such a way. In my opinion everyone should be able to use every vehicle in every way they want while only be limited by the technical limits of each vehicle.

One prototype existed; and while yeah Germany didn’t REALLY need it more SPAAG is always welcome imo

nevertheless, 2 good anti-aircraft guns per country is a good result.

I don’t welcome tanks that didn’t even work IRL.

Why limit the armament of airplanes? Why limit the munition options for tanks?

For balance.

You think the F-14A doesn’t have AMRAAMs ‘just because’?
The A-10A early only gets two Aim-9Ls ‘just because’?
The 90mm M3 is missing one of its versions of M82- is that ‘just because’ (actually yes it is and it’s very annoying we don’t have it)
The early 57mms have only APCBC and no APDS “just because”?

It’s all done in the sake of Balance. The Gepard, and other 35mm oerlikon vehicles, are currently in a spot of what I would argue is questionable balance. Being able to take full APHE is a bit silly, especially when intentions are for you to be an SPAAG, and a capable one at that. You aren’t the M19s or ZSU-57 that is completely incapable of shooting down planes- you have a fast fire rate and good radar to aid you in hitting targets. You don’t need APHE, or at least a full APHE belt. Three to One HE to AP would work just fine.

Why limit people to their vehicle classes?

So Germany has too many. Also America doesn’t have anything comparable to other nations.

To encourage the use of SPAA for SPAA duties, and toning down their anti-ground capability would allow them to be placed into lower BRs so they could act as SPAA more effectively.

Why not remove the hevt of the strf 9040 so they can be moved down in br and be more effective at destroying ground?

The Strf 9040?

Yes

The Strf is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle. Like many IFVs, it has anti helicopter measures like a tracking system for engagement of those airframes. The M3A3 Bradley has the same systems. They were DESIGNED to be able to engage aircraft, and the Strf isn’t even designed to fight heavily armored land vehicles. It is for infantry direct fire support.

SPAA weren’t designed to engage ground vehicles. They could if absolutely needed in a dire emergency, but that would mean certain death for the crew unless they were lucky. They should be focused on anti-air in a game where aircraft are a very real threat.

The gepard was designed with anti ground capabilities in mind my in real life it would even more rely on its apds.

And the Gepard is in a fine place BR wise in my opinion, and the APDS is only 40 rounds in the secondary magizines, a quite limited supply. That isn’t the problem for most. SPAA that aren’t radar guided and have strong anti-vehicle capabilities are usually overtiered to be useful as SPAA. The Falcon is 8.3, the same as the Gepard, and has no tracking or search ability and probably shouldn’t be fighting helicopters and more advanced non-afterburning jet aircraft. The WZ305 is at 8.0 with 57mm HE-VT (a whole 1.0 BR away from the ZSU-57-2) and still has no tracking or search ability facing helicopters and more advanced non-afterburning jet aircraft. The anti-vehicle capability of these, the APDS for the Falcon and the APHE for the WZ305, push them much higher than they need to be to operate as effective SPAA. The Falcon was basically the Fox before the Fox was added, and could be considered better by most because of the fire rate and dual cannons.

Isn’t that the same as for the normal zsu? I thought the hevt was pushing the wz not the aphe.

They both have APHE, but the HE-VT brings the WZ305 another 1.0 BR above the ZSU. If neither had full APHE belts they could be lowered and actually have a chance to fight aircraft they stand a good chance of hitting. Putting belts down to a max of 1 AP round per 3 HE (or other AA round) would encourage more SPAA use and still allow SPAA to defend themselves a bit in a pinch. No SPAA needs to carry full ammo loads of APHE or APDS.

Imma be real
No one would use the ZSU for AA and it would still be used as a SPG lol

1 140mm penning APHE every ~1s is still really good, all it would do is make it lower and more cancer.

The ZSU is a case where lets be real- its always going to be a pseudo-TD.

One effective shot per reload cycle. That would be a massive change to the lethality. Remember it isn’t automatic and does have a short reload cycle after the 4th shot.

I think it could improve it overall while limiting the TDness that these have the slower and possibly larger planes would be better targets than faster jets. I may have to find some aaA ring sights on Warthuner live and bring some info back here with it.
