What happened to the advanced composite armor in the Commanche? Why was it removed?

No changelog, no explanation, nothing. Stona just closes the threads.

Rah-66’s armor was completely removed in the live server. Why? - Machinery of War Discussion / Helicopter - War Thunder — official forum

Kevlar composite armor all over the helicopter in multiple layers, why was it all removed? Anyone using this " Ballistically Tolerant Rotor Blade Investigation " as a source should take a a nice close look, at when it was published, in 1975 Its almost as if the person who tried to use this as a source thinks technology doesn’t advance or change, to make what was once impossible, inconceivable, and unthinkable, POSSIBLE. The entire helicopter was armored, which you can see in the diagram from the sikorsky archives. There is no better source than this. You, Gaijin, advertised a helicopter with Advanced Composites, removing that from the helicopter doesn’t help anyone.

Simple
-people look
-People got hyped.
-People realized it was going to be very very good
-People pre ordered
-Instant nerf on patch day without explanation
-???
-Profit
Jokes aside,I don’t want to be rude or something but simple word of explanation would be enough why it was so different on all Iterations of dev server and why it went on live server without all this gimmicks?
Even if it wasn’t planed to be like that in the first place

This is why you always wait a few weeks if youre gonna buy something, just incase something like this happens.

They really carrot and sticked us…
Here’s where I got the info on the armor from

Not a joke though. You are 100% correct even if you only meant it in jest.

This is a common tactic they have employed for years.

Nerfed as soon as they met the number of preorder threshold lol

Poor bastards that bought this piece of crap for that amount of money. Getting smacked by iris t, 5 seconds into the battle is definitely worth it.

Your IRIS-T SLM can detect it without tweaking out?

This is sad AF.

I was really hyped about it, it would be “second-best” heli in game.

Well, at least it looks cool

Apart from the Kevlar, none of those materials amount to armour worth anything - and the diagram doesn’t say that it is armour (except for the Kevlar).

GR/Ep - GRaphite/Epoxy laminate - pretty much fibreglass using graphite fibre instead of glass - certainly stronger than F/glass, but not armour in any significant way!

This was done for stealth and weight - NOT ARMOUR. Composites are normally significantly lighter than “normal” Aluminium construction - a vital consideration for helicopters!

You will note that the diagram itself says lowering costs and weight were the main considerations - armour is not mentioned except in relation to the Kevlar.

Sikorsky says so everywhere you want to look: Boeing Sikorsky RAH-66 – Igor I Sikorsky Historical Archives - the only mention of armor is in relation to the crew seats being “armored and crashworthy”

Ti Firewall - a thin layer of titaniaum to take the direct heat of engine exhaust - likely not more than 0.5mm thich and seperated by the structure below it by 5-10mm using thermal insulators.

The dev server comanche could resist much from MGs and even cannons.

Maybe Devs overestimated Commanche armour characteristics and realized in the very end that it’s wrong and better is to not model it that way.
But in that case we should have get any info about this. Why it was different, why it was changed, why it was like this for entire dev server and on final patch they scraped it.
It’s literally vehicle that you paid real money for. People that bought it, deserve the answer.
Considered buying it myself but after that it’s just another heli just with good look.

If you’re from the UK the CRA 2015 technically can protect you in cases like this

And dev JF-17 (and even release one) could hover and drift/fly sideways, so?

This is not the topic about jf17, please refrain from offtopic.

This is the argument that Dev =/= Release, even if Snail notorious for undercooking their stuff then moving from on to another

Please, find there corresponding topic about JF-17 and continue there. There is no need for your offtopic, thanks.

Buddy composite isn’t armor in this case; it’s a structural material that uses materials like Kevlar, carbon fiber, and fiberglass in layers around honeycomb and impregnated with resin (yes, that is the actual term for it) and was used due to its high strength (as a material) and low weight

I myself have made a composite piece, will try to get a picture of it later, cause I’m not at home. The armor that the image refers to is likely just some bullet-resistant Kevlar seat armor
