This isn’t how HESH works. I’m so tired of this inconsistent trash.
The destruction replay is a bit bugged, check the server replay to see what actually hapened.
Edit:
I checked, the shell didn’t go inside your barrel, it went to your right (their left) of your barrel and hit your hull/side of barrel. Your remaining crew were also already orange due to previous damage so it took very little additional damage to actually knock them out.
Are we looking at the same server replay? It’s HESH… The 183 and AVRE doesn’t even come close to being able to get kills from that distance of the shell triggering… Or does the T58 have a bit of P2W premium advantage, since even someone with the same eyesight as Helen Keller can see that it has the only HESH that remotely does anything effective…
Edit: I’m not trying to be overly negative and i do appreciate you looking into it. I have over 7200 hours in this game and it really feels like my old favorites to play like the AVRE rarely do consistent damage with their HESH. Even full blown artillery tanks don’t knock out other tanks without aiming for roof tops. It would just be nice for the damage to be consistent.
There is no such thing.
The damage HESH doses is primarily from spalling (Many say that the HE and overpressure part should be a lot stronger in the game than what it is but i don’t know enough about the IRL shell to know if this is correct or not). The spalling also act VERY differently to how other shells do, it spalls orthogonal to the armor plate that is on the inside of the impact point and NOT perpendicular to the direction of the impact of the shell. This is what many players get wrong.
So if you hit the side of a turret while shooting from the front like this:
It’s going to spall to the left instead of towards the back like this:

While an APFSDS dart would spall in the same direction of travel like this:

Then due to spall being the primary damage mechanic of HESH and spalling also being semi randomized it’s by nature going to be relatively inconsistent. That can be mitigated to some degree at least be understanding how the shell works and where to aim to get the most out of the shell.
Please be careful with the tone.
Try looking at it in the hit analysis, the side and top hull plates on the ztz seems very thin so i’m guessing that the HESH has a way easier time doing it’s overpressure damage since the pressure can actually go through the plates.
Thanks for deleting my joke, I see there is very little sense of humor in the air, huh? And don’t forget to activate ghost mode when a player tries to talk with you :D
But on topic, you had your barrel close to the top of the hull, so when the HESH detonated on the barrel, it had enough overpressure damage to go throuh the usually thin hull roof.
You can’t do much about this
