What are your opinions on paper vehicles vs copy paste in small tech trees?

The panther 2 was introduced in an awful way anyway. There’s a perfectly plausible way for the Panther 2 to come back. The turret that it had, was intended for the Panther F, there were blueprints for a Rheinmetall turret that was intended to be for the Panther 2. The night vision gear was tested years after the Panther 2 project got canceled. The 8,8 cm gun was an upgrade planned for the Panther F, not the Panther 2, which should’ve gotten the 7,5 cm gun that was on the Panther G.

Except for Britain

That would be perfectly fine.

If the Panther II is honestly remodelled in a more ‘realistic’ way (aka similar to the one the Americans found with the Panther G turret and 75mm, but with extra front hull armour at a lower BR at 6.3 instead of 7.0).

I would be happy with it.

If that still pisses off the WT veterans and collectors, then Gaijin can add a separate tech tree Panther II, similar to how they added the more ‘real’ German captured P-47D-16-RE Thunderbolt with the early cockpit and razorback fin after removing the other never captured bubble canopy P-47D.

Never gonna happen

Because anime slapped on a tank is more realistic (see modern battlefields) than the Tiger II 105 (Gun could literally not fit in the turret), Panther II 88 (Gun could not fit in turret and transmission could not fit in the hull), and R2Y2 (Almost entirely fictional postwar fabrication)

See above ^^^ They’re all equally fake and unbelievable.

Coelian shouldn’t have been removed, but fake vehicles need to go. F16AJ and Ho-Ri’s current implementation included. Copy-paste is genuinely preferable, especially if a nation or its subtrees actually used import/export vehicles IRL (significant historically).

Will happen tomorrow

No

PUMA has a laundry list of things wrong for 4 years and hasn’t been fixed. Same thing with Abrams and its turret ring.

Yes, I certainly find it realistic that anime girls from Russia, the US and Germany operate tanks alone, and collaborate together.
In all seriousness, why must I go through a billion Pattons at 8.0. At this point, any country allied with the US during the Cold War has so many. I would rather have something unique rather than the same tank that is costing me hundreds of thousands of silver lions to buy and crew, and costing me hours of my time. I’m fine with a Panther 2 if it means that I’m not buying a C&P Patton for once

Tomorrow for dinner you’ll have a very delicious meal and your favorite media entertainment will release a new relevant piece

Type yes to agree

I believe that unique prototypes* should be added. I also want copy and paste to be added, but not in place of something unique.

For example, I’m happy that Japan got the Su-30MKM (even if not pure copy and paste) since it didn’t really come in place of something unique and represents Malaysia’s most advanced fighters. I’m happy Japan got the JAS39C for the same reason (but for Thailand). I’m not happy that Japan got the F-84G as a replacement for the R2Y2s, I would’ve been fine if the R2Y2 V1 stayed (unfinished technically) and the F-84G was added alongside it.

*Unfinished or Finished prototypes. Paper Vehicles opens up a can of worms. I also believe the F-16AJ should be replaced w/ the YF-16A.

War Thunder is the perfect environment to get a sense of what vehicles that never made it into service would actually be like. Whether that be full “paper” vehicles or prototypes that just never entered service (like the TSR2).

But on the flip side, as we have seen with Soyuz in Naval… They can be stupidly strong, to the point of ruining the game for everyone else in actual, real vehicles. So there needs to be balancing act, and only “reasonable” additions should even be considered and for now, only when they add to the game in a meaningful way, rather than subtract from it. (especially if there is a “real” option that would be appropriate for the same BR and role as the “paper” option)

Detta är värgen…

I dont want either of those. Copy paste just becomes more and more infuriating over time and “top sikret” crocodilo bombardilo concepts are going to be precedent that will lead to game turning into circus. Also I can imagine insane amount of chatgpt generated suggestions with “real no fake trust me bro grandpa found this in basement” blueprints.
Sure at some point they will run out of vehicles. But at that point BVVD will have more ferraris than John Carmack. And at that point they can focus on improving and revising existing content.
But of course this wont happen because f2p games dont work this way. Because they constantly need new content and keep grind going. New tiers, new premiums, new top tier stuff - you get the idea. It brings lots of money.
Speaking of what devs would actually do in future, it will probably be milking of remaining real life stuff plus copypaste (depends on faction). Copying model and applying different texture is much cheaper than making new model from 0. Same goes for parameters. Its cheaper to use real values or values from existing gear than pulling values from senator Armstrong source and trying to get it balanced. Also fictional stuff hurts WT (which tries to look realistic) image. “Play for free with friends in the most realistic online game.” motto and made up stuff dont really fit each other.

My thoughts as well

Funnily enough, this is not portrayed ingame at all. Crew voices are normal, there are no anime women on the tank… There have been more “patriotic” and “bizarre” paintjobs on real tanks.

The price to pay for some nations having a decent lineup at a good chunk of BRs. If you don’t want to use it, don’t pay to crew it and just buy it then get the next tank… And this is ignoring the fact that the Patton’s a great tank.

That was from the pack’s trailer

You Still have to research it, especially if a Patton comes next, also while I agree that the Patton is a good tank, it does get tiring to have the same playstyle and weaknesses all the time.

Which is entirely unrelated to gameplay, vehicle performance, or authenticity/conforming to the laws of physics.

That’s entirely fair. I just believe countries/subtrees should get their imports/exports and unique vehicles, I agree that gaijin does need to be better about adding the latter.

Look, I have an especially negative view of C&P since I’m an Israeli main, and have 10 Magachs (Pattons), so I may have more far out beliefs than most. I am also glad that we agree on implementation of unique tanks. I do believe that having exported tanks and a few variants of the same tank is nice, since it can give a good lineup (my best lineups are Magach only).
About the Sendai Maiden tanks, my point is pointing out the irony of Gaijin, and I am totally fine with them being in the game, my point is though that the tanks are slightly ahistorical, which I find peculiar since slightly ahistorical tanks like the Colian have been removed.
