No, bro. I just wanted to ask your opinion, nothing more.

well let me see in game the r77 has leaker pull less range and loses lock constantly
so it’s over power and needs to be nerfed

Yes, this is a big problem for the English-speaking War Thunder community. I think that since they are engaged in the balance, then the top tier needs to be leveled.

Yes, but half of the gameplay in Soviet aviation turns into flying near the ground, with constant maneuvers and tricks to survive. Meanwhile, the rest just climb into the sky and drop 4-8 rockets, half of which reach.

I think the AIM-120 is a great missile, as for the R-77, it feels like an active radar homing short range missile. Gaijin should add the R-77-1, it’s basically the same thing but with a sustainer booster.

R-77 are way better in close ranges, AIM-120 in long ranges
learn to use both missiles properly, and still, R-77 is better than Derby in everything(or allmost)

I’ve had the opportunity to play the r-77 on the su27sm these past weeks, and also the 120’s on the ICE and Ef2000. They both have their pros and cons, the range is the main difference as we all know. I haven’t yet used the R77 on a slower platform like the 29 SMT, so I mainly talk about the 27sm, the performance is not as bad as I thought, once you get past the first engagements you can make them rain on the opponents that are left and consistently get kills with them. As for the 120, it’s a reliable bvr missile, I haven’t faced many issues playing them other than the fact that they are slightly worse at really close ranges, which is fine by me.

Not really balanced. AIM-120 is best all around ARH missile while the R-77 only has it’s high G load going for it. AMRAAM is superior in almost every single situation. I really don’t get the R-77. While it is slightly better at close range than the AMRAAM MICA blows both out of the water (at those ranges).

There isn’t a single situation in which I would want to use the R-77 over something else. I would honestly take 4 AMRAAMs over 8 R-77s.

It’s fine. R-77s are better at close range, but Aim-120s can be fired further out. Also soviets still have access to the R-27ET/R which are very potent missiles even at top tier. The sheer mix of weapons the Su-27 and Su34 can run keeps them in the fight rather well.

AIM120 the best FOX3 and very usamain skill optimalised but the r77 turn better in close range. R77 kinda mid rocket but the russian radars literally useless except in the mig29smt and the su34

I love AIM-120 on my SPAMRAAM mobile

I would just like to point out that some of people expressing their opinions on these missiles in this thread have no planes above 12.0 and have never used them. Or have only used one missile and not the other. Keep that in mind when reading their posts.

Wait who here doesn’t have anything over 12.0

They’re balanced. One has better overload and AoA generation favoring close encounters through MP which is quite achiveable, and the other has enough overload to correct on medium to long distances, however, it completely lacks AoA to be used at close ranges, being a weakness on most of NATO planes that rely on sidewinders for that. End of story.

If anyone here wants the R-77-1 to be added, then you’ll probably have to expect some new oposition to the missile, as it also has a better seeker along the booster. There could even be some improved 120C variants for close range capabilities.

The ingame version was really bad irl, so historically accurate.
Great at close range though

“My experience with the AIM-120 isn’t great. I only have USA aircraft. So, the 120 works well at 10,000 meters and Mach 1.4 if you fire at 40 km, but the number of kills decreases at 30 km, at 20 km you never hit. At 10 km you hit a bit, and below 7 km even the bots will avoid the 120. This gives only one gameplay: climb, fire at 40 km, and come back to reload. So the 120 is not great at all.”

I mean it’s not just R77 and AIM-120, there’s also R-darter, Mica, Derby, AAM-4, and that Chinese one.
