That’s impressive to say the least.
WW2 is a thing, since then, plane desing suffered a lot for reaching supersonic flight, match tuk, etc … but flying without canopy doesn’t almost affect fly performance, you hear everything better, but you don’t hear the turbulence of air inside de cockpit … realistic ? My balls, this is pure fantasy
Answer no. Often enclosed cockpits depending on their quality inhibited sight.
So many opened their cockpit to gain better sight. This wasn’t common with the US though. Their cockpits converted to Bubble domes which gave an incredibly clear view.
Really, this completely compromises the immersion of the game. You find yourself forced to open the cockpit to match the enemy.
I support. Abusing canopy in sim should be stopped.
really now?
Would like to see a picture of a opened canopy with flight from a F-16 at 1200 @ Km/h please
Bang on, I’ve said for ages now WT’s sound design is terrible with the cockpit closed but it’s actually pretty good with the canopy open. I just wish they’d make the internal sounds the same as external. As it stands these WW2 fighters have better sound insulation than a Rolls Royce. The Hawker Tempest and Dora have atrociously quiet sounds especially when the Tempest was known for being loud.
The P-51 from Wings of Prey used the same sound as the Tempest and Dora from the early days of WT. Listen how powerful that sounds in comparison!
To those saying “WW2 pilots used to open their canopy to hear things” you’re talking completely out of your arse to be blunt. WW2 pilots flew with open canopies for better visibility and ventilation, the Russians opened their canopies as they had a habit of turning yellow…
You would be deafened with an open canopy, you should struggle to hear with the canopy closed. A friend of mine was able to fly in a two seat Mk IX for his birthday and in his own words the aircraft is LOUD. “It sounds nowhere near as nice inside as it does outside, every exhaust crackle was like a small explosion”. How do you think that’ll sound with the canopy open at 200mph let alone 1000+mph.
oh in modern aircraft they dont do it (unless its a mig pilot bailing from their aircraft its really weird how they chose to set those up)
