Would say the question about grind, changes from gamemode to gamemode
Air is fine
Bluewater is a little slow but fine
Coastal is pretty poor
Ground sucks (helis are directly adjacent to ground so suck too)
But my overall opinion of WT at the moment is that the Devs need to focus more on what we have rather than just plastering over all the old issue with new premiums and C&Ps.
Many older vehicles are barely playable due to compression and/or bugs and the gamemodes, and it is all of them, have become incredibly stale
Game modes have become stale, especially Air RB. The addition of nuclear escalation was fun for a while. But the base game is essentially TDM whatever you play.
Adding RB EC has been a long requested feature, yet gajin seems to ignore it.
Other new game modes would be good too.
Regarding balancing;
compression is still way too big, especially with all the top tier vehicles being added. There are some major problems that need addressing.
certain mechanics need some tweaks ESPECIALLY VOLUMETRIC. While the core idea is good, the situations under the current implementation of it can be so awful that there it really ruins the game.
the devs seem to have a serious case of Russian bias, in terms of bug-reporting (stinger vs Igla to name an example, or the M735 that’s been broken for years). The guidelines and accepting of bug reports should be fair to both Nato vehicles and eastern bloc.
while I don’t mind the balancing system of BRs, the maximum spread should be lowered to 0.7 in my opinion. This would create a lot more options to balance vehicles, as the maximum difference in potential would be smaller.
bombers: we’ve all seen the current bomber damage models, they are weak as hell. The Gunners are generally ineffective unless you have cannon and good coverage. The main problem (especially in Air RB), is that there is no real point to them. Their objectives do essentially nothing in most games, they are easily killed (or will spend the entire game running away). Leading to a lot of frustration to both bomber players and fighter pilots. But the only way they become viable, is if they have a way to be usefull. The current Air RB maps are too small for them (not enough time to climb or flank). The objectives do nothing, and it’s either be killed quick or run away for 20 minutes after dropping bombs (landing is essentially impossible).
Having Air RB here would give them a game mode that allows their slow gameplay to actually matter, as respawning is an option. Making a death less detrimental to the team.
Grind and economy:
simply said, the grind is too long. If you want to get one or two tech trees up, it’s doable. But if you want to diversify and try to get some modern vehicles in different nation. So you have some serious grinding to do, even with premium vehicles.
PREMIUM vehicles and tech trees.
I don’t mind a copy paste premium here/there. I’ll say that up front. I own and enjoy a few (such as the M18 black cat, T34 partisan etc). Overall it’s a relatively non-intrusive way of adding new vehicles to the game that support it’s development and I’m okay with that. I prefer it over locking something unique/OP away behind a premium paywall (T29, T58 as examples).
Where gajin is going wrong now, is that we get both extremely expensive copy paste in several tech trees. (Latest Sentai maiden packs, were vehicles already present as premiums). They could have just sold the skins as a pack, combined with the existing vehicles.
The amount of premiums especially is outrageous right now, it feels as if most vehicles added to the tech tree aren’t new but just variants of vehicles already present. Meanwhile there’s a ton of new premiums that don’t add anything either, but are meant to fill gaps in the premium availability. Meanwhile, such gaps exist within the standard tech tree as well. But they’d rather throw a new line of copy paste against it, than anything unique.
I just wanna take a look at France as an example:
Recent updates added: the Benelux line (ground vehicles are all copy paste, with 3 leopards at top tier (only change is the skin and a machine gun compared to the Germans).
They got the EBRC Jaguar, SAMPT SPAA and not much else noteworthy.
The EBRC Jaguar, was a good addition. Similar to vehicles in other nations, but uniquely french. The SPAA was required, is unique (not great but unique) and a complete copy paste lineup of Benelux vehicles from low tier to top tier. Which they did not need. The Benelux tanks should have been replaced with unique French vehicles UNLESS THERE IS NO OTHER OPTION. Why add the M44/M55 instead of a tech tree version of the old Lorraine 155 Mle 50? (Lorraine 155 Mle 51 is right there!). Plenty of those examples are available for other nations (obviously for some minors nations copy paste is harder to avoid, france is definitely not one of them though).
I’ll leave it at that for now.
But the copy paste culture of gajin, combined with the need to make a ton of premiums, while the matchmaking, maps and game modes are becoming stale. Is not good for the game.
The bug reporting and consistent Russian bias in those regards aren’t good for the game either.
The current matchmaking system needs improvement for. Balance reasons. Try flying a standard F16A; have fun again the SU30MKK.
Hm.
Interesting to see this type of a post got past the censorship system, especially with the poll results as they are.
Gonna be an interesting one to look and ( excuse the cynical attitude) laugh at, knowing how well the devs respond to feedback.
@dovah4
Your post is claiming that criticizing Gaijin is shilling for them.
Oh well, I’ll keep critiquing what is real regardless.
Two way datalink isn’t a feature of War Thunder at this time. I’ve been lobbying for its addition for over a year.
Not sure how bringing up a feature that isn’t present is relevant to your points.
X-Ray is not indicative of damage models. It’d be nice if we had a damage-model only x-ray to view.
That specific F-14 would indeed come tot he game with that missile if added to the game if Gaijin wanted to code the missile.
None of those vehicles are meaningfully different from their counterparts in the German and Swedish trees
The 2a5nl doesn’t even have a line up, and none were necessary given that France has 100’s of missing designs, many of which fill the same or similar roles
but the MLE 50 is a event vehicle, the MLE 51 would give France a unique researchabel case mate 155mm spg instead of another copy pasted M44
This is the bit that annoys me. I dont mind a C&P addition, especially a C&P Sub-TT addition, if it truly is the only possible option. But when its done for the sake of convenience, its just frustrating. We have just seen it with Britain.
Way too much effort to fix the Challenger 2s or add a proper Challenger 3. So instead. C&P Abrams
It’s very frustrating because the BeNeLux tree is a double doozy.
In It’s Current state, BeNeLux offers very little to France:
It has one (1) vehicle that offers a capability it can’t domestically provide, the AH-64E; and
it has three (3) Unique domestic designs vehicles, each of which are low tier fokker planes. While nice (the best part of the tree TBH), it’s not like French or French joint projects aren’t missing in the low tier prop window.
That’s it. Everything else doesn’t actually provide something new or meaningful to France. The Leopard 1a5BE could easily be an AMX-30C2, the Leopard 2a4 could be a EPC series proto-Leclerc, the CV9035NL could be Warrior Toutatis or VAB CTA40, etc
Even if the Copy-Paste issue was addressed, BeNeLux offers very little to France as a majority of BeNeLux domestic designs are light tanks and armored cars, and France is missing dozens upon dozens of it’s own designs in that class.
Even things like Leopard 1BE 3105 actually doesn’t give France somethin that it couldn’t get prior to the BeNeLux tree being added (105mm autoloading stabilized tank) as France has had the SK-105A2 since 2021. The Modernization of it, the SK-105A3, is a 105mm autoloading stabilized tank.
I like to expand some of my answers on those poll questions:
I selected the #3 choice. It’s solid overall, but there’s still plenty of room for improvement from a gameplay perspective. Decompression should be the number one priority, particularly for Air and Coastal battles.
For instance, Air RB in the 12.3–13.3+ BR range desperately needs decompression, as many SARH slingers are forced into the same matchmaking bracket with the ARH slingers.
Coastal battles between 1.3 and 4.3 are compressed to an extreme degree and sorely deserve even greater attention, given the significant disparity between coastal boats’ capabilities and destroyers within that range.
I mainly play Air RB, and I’m generally a very conservative player when it comes to fundamental changes. As it stands, I think the current Air RB match format is already fairly solid, and I don’t wish to see any major changes made to it.
However, the problematic BRs on some aircraft, continued abuse of airfield terminator AAA, as well as the presence of heavy bombers that contribute nothing to the outcome of air RB matches, are the issues that deserve attention in the legacy air RB match format. I don’t mind seeing a new air RB gamemode where only fighters, and attackers to some extent, are allowed to dogfight each other, with no airfield AAA and no nonsense automatic ticket bleeding.
No comments, but I don’t mind seeing any improvements and tweaks that treat all types of aircraft more equally.
I mainly play Naval AB and have nearly researched every coastal vessel across all nations, so I selected the “they are very bad” option primarily because of the severe compression in coastal battles.
At 2.3, for example, you have ships like the Aconit and Brantford dominating the 1.3-3.3 BR range because they possess a fundamental advantage: the detailed damage model. In short, these vessels use a more complex damage model that makes it significantly harder to remove large numbers of crew in a short period of time. To deal meaningful damage, you must target specific areas such as crew compartments. Meanwhile, motor torpedo boats and smaller gunboats struggle to reliably destroy vessels like Aconit and Brantford unless they coordinate attacks and use torpedoes from multiple directions.
By contrast, many MTBs and smaller gunboats still use the older simplified damage model. You can often disable them simply by firing into the lower hull sections and turning them black, rapidly draining crew without needing to target specific compartments. As a result, the survivability gap between these two damage-model systems is noticeably huge.
Another issue appears at 3.3 BR and above. The incentive to play and spade 3.7+ MTBs and Cold War-era coastal vessels with simplified damage models quickly disappears. Why? Because players can instead spawn “reverse destroyers” at 3.3 and more capable destroyers such as USS Aylwin at 3.7 or SKR boats at 4.3. These ships are capable of destroying and farming coastal boats in a single salvo or just a few hits. In most matches, a large portion of the enemy team simply spawns destroyers. Only experienced or particularly dedicated players are daringly willing to bring out 3.7-4.3 coastal boats to contest capture points and fight other coastal vessels, and even then, it’s a relatively rare sight.
Personally, I would prefer to see a separate game mode or matchmaking bracket for top-tier coastal vessels where they are only allowed to fight each other. Destroyers and cruisers would not be permitted in those matches.
I have pointed out the problematic performance gap above between those coastal boats with the complex damage model and those with the simplified damage model. It is one of the biggest structural issues in coastal gameplay. Because of that, I believe coastal battles deserve the highest priority for decompression. Ideally, all vessels should eventually receive the same detailed damage model equally. However, implementing that would require significant research, development time, and resources.
There is also a major gameplay issue involving hit registration and desynchronization. Ghost shells are extremely common in coastal combat. It is not unusual to watch entire volleys visibly strike an enemy vessel, whether player-controlled or AI-controlled, only for no hits or damage to register for several seconds. These situations can persist for three seconds or more and are incredibly frustrating when they occur.
I don’t have much to add regarding the other polls, as my views are generally aligned with those already expressed by others. However, I would like to say something about vehicle additions.
I ENCOURAGE both the developers and the players or forum users to take a look at the Suggestions section of the forum.
Take your time and EXPLORE it. There are countless well-researched suggestions covering unique vehicles, prototypes, modifications, and variants that have yet to be added to the game.
For players and forum users, I ENCOURAGE you to EXPLORE and VOTE on the vehicles and variants you would like to see added. Your comment helps highlight community interest and brings attention to ideas that might otherwise go unnoticed.
The Suggestions section is tragically receiving less traffic, engagement, and visibility than it did in the past. If you’re looking for inspiration or simply want to discover interesting additions that could bring new flavors to the game, I highly RECOMMEND spending some time browsing through it and supporting the suggestions you like.
For the developers, the Suggestions section is one of the best places to find ideas for future content and additions. It provides direct insight into what players are interested in and helps in bringing more flavors that could make future updates more appealing.
The more active and popular the Suggestions section becomes, the more attention it is likely to receive from both the community and the developers.
agreed. russian bias in low tiers doesnt seem to exist much besides a few under br vehicles (which is common on all nations) and how volumetric favours them all round but top tier russia is a serious issue with the combination of the best cas the best heli the best spaa the bmpt and 2 good mbts, and vehicles like the T72B3 and B3 arena being to low a br but overall most the time its not the vehicles themselves that are the issue its how gaijin implements them with everything else like the terminator coming to the game at 10.3 with a broken damage model that they still havent fixed or the SM-SV apparently being needed because the buk wasnt good enough and the bug reporting thing where it seems russian vehicle reports will get accepted instantly on some weak source where for example we give primary sources on L27A1 performance for the challengers and it gets denied with “marketing lie” it just makes you wonder whats actually happening behind the scenes.
Air - is generally fine. Compression is a severe issue in 12.X-13.X, for instance. Could get a new air RB gamemode only for fighters and some attackers to dogfight each other. No bombers are allowed. No airfield AAAs. No automatic ticketing bleeding.
Ground - no comments since I am not a dedicated GRB player.
Coastal - is in a horrible state. Compression is an overwhelmingly severe issue. Performance gap between coastal vessels with a detailed damage model and those with a simplified damage model needs to be addressed. Destroyers seeing and farming on coastal boats are another major issue. Ghost shelling on coastal boats is very common.
Bluewater - not much I can say as I have not researched the battleships yet. Destroyers, SKRs, and SKR equivalents should be barred from seeing coastal boats in 4.3 and below. Crusiers need some love with decompression.
Vehicle selection - go and visit the suggestions section to explore and support vehicles and variants you want to see in the future updates, so they bring more flavors. Currently, that page is receiving less traffic than it was in the past. The more active and popular the Suggestions section becomes, the more attention it is likely to receive from both the community and the developers, and they can contribute to making future updates more flavorful and less boring.
I feel that the biggest issue is how fast counters to a OP vehicle/weapon-system get added to nations if said vehicle/weapon-system wasn’t from Russia.
Some notable examples was the pantsir. It was added to counter CAS (including it’s munitions), and it did it’s job well. However other nations didn’t get anything no where near as comparable to it.
To add fuel to fire, the kh38 was added without any reasonable counter to it. first to the SM3, then to the Su34, and then to the Su30. This single-handedly traumatized the entire playerbase.
It took them like what? A year and a half or two to add top tier FnF spaa? but they added LDIRCM to the Mi28nm (yes they also added it to the z10, but it’s not even comparable). Even then, I felt that the game was at it’s most balanced state because it put kh38 slingers in check.
Then FnF agms got added to US and to Russia (china, france, brits, and japan got the jagms later). I think this helped the US more but the reason why Russia was in the spotlight more is because the LMURS were extremely potent and the pantsir could somewhat counter a salvo of jagms (they can still be overwhelmed) where as other nations couldn’t even counter a single lmur.
LDRICM and the nature helicopters added a huge issue for nations. It requires SACLOS spaa to counter helicopters but at the same time it couldn’t counter munitions effectively. Guess what nation got an spaa that could do both very well?
Of course this is just for top tier. My opinion differs when we’re talking about a different BR bracket.
for god sakes, give us some decompression of the brs. stop hiding behind the “ThInK aBoUt ThE qUeUe TiMeS” excuse so many balancing changes would be fixed simply by making more ranges for tanks to be put and same with aircraft. tanks like the maus, super fucking unfair in a downtier, super unfun to play in an uptier im not saying the maus is UNPLAYABLE at 8.7 but its just bullied to hell and back when the real fun of the maus and the other 7.7 heavys is that brawl, feeling like to titans dueling it out is the most fun shit you can do imo. i will never understand why gaijin is so scared to just decompress the brs aside from being sadistic and enjoying seeing its player base suffer
It would also like a new nation, for example Czechoslovakia. We have a variety of weapons from before WW2 to the present (2026). If Israel can start with IV. level, why shouldn’t Czechoslovakia start at III.-IV. levels? We have enough tanks and planes and helicopters to research in the game. But everyone cries “copy paste from the Russians”.
I hope they add some more tech trees like Visegrád Group (V4) I think it would add more unique vehicles and it would really help the game to add some more nations.
