War Thunder Survey: What do People Enjoy About the Game, And What Don't They?

I’m not happy with the game, but I’m not happy with the state of the community either.

There seems to be a lot of people who are here flooding the forums begging for new vehicles and tech tree constantly, and I think that is part of the problem.

The reality is that a lot of players are tired of the same gameplay loop that is completely lackluster, especially at higher BRs, and somehow, discussions on this topic, which should be all over the forums, can barely be seen around. Maybe I’m just not looking at the right spots though.

Infantry isn’t a solution by the way. It’s just another system to work and polish while GRB and ARB continue as the stale, repetitive offerings they are.

Gaijin should be focusing on getting us Advance and Nuclear Escalation for multiple BR brackets, and these should be incorporated into RB rotation or should be their own gamemode instead of being hidden behind the Sim page (which few players actually bother to check).

I will once again share a video detailing a complex data-driven investigation of the War Thunder playerbase and how the game has become stagnant (see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-8zAmuKDLuY). It’s an extremely interesting video that supports a lot of the recent major Youtubers’ criticism with actual statistical data to support their points.

It could be in a worse state, but I am currently just burned out with the game. The lack of meaningful content and updates these past few years has made the game stagnant for me and for many others.

The game is in dire need of a ground-grind overhaul, as the RP grind is absolutely atrocious and painfully slow for the average player. The SL economy is somewhat in a good place, though. But the reality is, the game desperately needs new game modes for ground, I just can’t stomach playing the game for any period of time, I am burned out. I want new maps, new game modes, and something that keeps the game exciting and immersive.

The Seafire LF III is still 5.0 so no I’m not happy.

Not really…
WW2 gameplay which is what i enjoy the most in this game is being erroded into slop by modern SPHs and anachronistic rats.
There are many other very real issues others will discuss, but for me this is the one i care about

You don’t get chat-banned for saying things they don’t want to hear, at worst you just get ignored for that. What can get you chat-banned is breaking the rules, like insulting people, personally attacking people, or just spamming to a crazy extent

Some of the main things that piss me so much:

1- the scout system. Its spammed at some BRs to the level realistic games turns into arcade. The location of the scouted vehicle should not update constantly unless the light tank that scouted gets it on its visual again.

2- Russian tanks spalling very little and the aitoloader eating most of it.

3- Top tier ground needs unique maps, instead of tiny maps that are smaller then mid-tiers matchmaking…

4- I dont think we need a nuclear thunder game mode, but we could take some elements of it:
More spawns in a slightly bigger map with spread objectives and maybe a little advantage in spawn to some useless planes such as Panavia Tornados…

You do get chat banned for that.

Never seen that but if you say so

No you get chat banned for saying things they don’t want to hear. Trust me, this most latest one not a single slur was spoken lol.

Well there is not really that much going for the game in terms of enjoyment.
It is unbalanced with a poor match making system and an even poorer system used for balancing vehicles and equipment, with the added burden of trying to shoehorn in vehicles which have no use or position in the game due to the games very narrow set up for playing and objectives.
It is intentionally made to be frustrating and unbalanced so players spend money to lessen the horrendous grind or have the latest overpowered vehicle for a short while until the next copy paste one comes along for 70 plus of your local currency.
It has no redeeming qualities as a game and the whole thing is old and stale but why change when so many people seem to have more money then they know what to do with and pay a lot of money for an ethereal graphic.
As a time waster and a shallow based experience it is okay, but there are plenty more on the internet which are better ( some worse for sure).

I don’t want 7 major updates per year, I want ONE major update where everything actually works out of the box and actually feels like love was put into it.

Statistically validated

This is so dumb and out of place, Russian stuff is bad and under performing, people just want to take their anger on the “biased boogeyman” than admit skill issue.

This IS true. Every nation has their own level of questionably-reasonable jank.

i mean every single F-4e flying in a straight line dive bombing airfields in sim had chinese names

i do not agree with you yes paper and cardboard planes may not be super realistic but i believe that having quirky vehicles and aircrafts is what can pull a lot of players in, and i would also enjoy if they werent locked behind a pay wall (but if i where honest id say more ppl would be willing to pay for that cuz who doesnt want a goofy plane/tank/boat) and or an event grind that is diabolical and for the market place you can still put vehicles in the season pass which can be sold

Honestly my main issue with paper vehicles is how quickly games lose it and dive into fiction instead because they just see these as a blank canvas to create a vehicle they want rather than the historical context. For example War Thunder in the few paper vehicles we did get had this issue a lot.

The Panther II for example as it was shown in game was not actually the Panther II the way it would’ve been completed. Instead because Gaijin wanted to fill what was at the time the game top tier decided it would need a better turret layout and more firepower, so they took a different (and entirely unrelated) later turret proposal of the Panther F’s “Schmalturm” turret with an 8,8cm cannon, even when this was never intended for the Panther II.
Or the “Ho-Ri Production” that was an intentional fake only based on the “Ho-Ri Prototype” (Which is also wrong, but that was a mistake from the lacking information at the time, not intentional. More detail is here) to fill the same top tier at the time, also getting thicker armor and a more powerful engine than what was actually intended for it. But because information on the Ho-Ri was so limited at the time, Gaijin felt more comfortable in making up the information and still marketing it as realistic to people who just didn’t know better.

Both of these weren’t even fully paper, with the Panther II having a fully complete hull and the Ho-Ri having five prototypes under construction. This could get even worse for vehicles that were never actually built.

lowkey i play ARB idk much abt tanks yet but i believe paper/cardboard planes are the move to make not to capture a niche player base but to have a goofy plane ppl would like to meme play (less recent trend of the ho229 agartha plane meme) yes realism will lack but i think with the artificial nerfs Air playerbase has and artificial wapeons we also have… it dont matter anymore

Generally when Gaijin add vehicles that are paper they tend to make them not only less historical, but also often less interesting. For example the F-16AJ (never built, but they added it thinking and unrelated YF-16A testbed was a prototype for it) would have been a much different aircraft from the one we have in game historically, but because it wasn’t built Gaijin made up pseudo-history to excuse not having to model landing gear mounted missile rails.

This makes no sense because it was only based on assumptions comparing it to aircraft 10+ years newer and ignored the basic requirements this aircraft was made for. Sometimes actual history is more interesting than just making things up. For example the Ho 229 was a real aircraft, only the cannons weren’t mounted and that’s a very unusual plane.

Personally I’m not even against unfinished vehicles. I think they’re great when done right and there’s a few specific ones I’d really want to see in game somewhat soon like the Mitsubishi F-X 26DMU that had a lot of components built and is detailed enough to accurately model in game. But I think for fully paper vehicles there’s a lot more uncertainty about how they can be modelled, a lot more guesswork to be done, and I just don’t trust Gaijin to do it right.
