War Thunder Survey: What do People Enjoy About the Game, And What Don't They?

This IS true. Every nation has their own level of questionably-reasonable jank.

i mean every single F-4e flying in a straight line dive bombing airfields in sim had chinese names

i do not agree with you yes paper and cardboard planes may not be super realistic but i believe that having quirky vehicles and aircrafts is what can pull a lot of players in, and i would also enjoy if they werent locked behind a pay wall (but if i where honest id say more ppl would be willing to pay for that cuz who doesnt want a goofy plane/tank/boat) and or an event grind that is diabolical and for the market place you can still put vehicles in the season pass which can be sold

Honestly my main issue with paper vehicles is how quickly games lose it and dive into fiction instead because they just see these as a blank canvas to create a vehicle they want rather than the historical context. For example War Thunder in the few paper vehicles we did get had this issue a lot.

The Panther II for example as it was shown in game was not actually the Panther II the way it would’ve been completed. Instead because Gaijin wanted to fill what was at the time the game top tier decided it would need a better turret layout and more firepower, so they took a different (and entirely unrelated) later turret proposal of the Panther F’s “Schmalturm” turret with an 8,8cm cannon, even when this was never intended for the Panther II.
Or the “Ho-Ri Production” that was an intentional fake only based on the “Ho-Ri Prototype” (Which is also wrong, but that was a mistake from the lacking information at the time, not intentional. More detail is here) to fill the same top tier at the time, also getting thicker armor and a more powerful engine than what was actually intended for it. But because information on the Ho-Ri was so limited at the time, Gaijin felt more comfortable in making up the information and still marketing it as realistic to people who just didn’t know better.

Both of these weren’t even fully paper, with the Panther II having a fully complete hull and the Ho-Ri having five prototypes under construction. This could get even worse for vehicles that were never actually built.

lowkey i play ARB idk much abt tanks yet but i believe paper/cardboard planes are the move to make not to capture a niche player base but to have a goofy plane ppl would like to meme play (less recent trend of the ho229 agartha plane meme) yes realism will lack but i think with the artificial nerfs Air playerbase has and artificial wapeons we also have… it dont matter anymore

Generally when Gaijin add vehicles that are paper they tend to make them not only less historical, but also often less interesting. For example the F-16AJ (never built, but they added it thinking and unrelated YF-16A testbed was a prototype for it) would have been a much different aircraft from the one we have in game historically, but because it wasn’t built Gaijin made up pseudo-history to excuse not having to model landing gear mounted missile rails.

This makes no sense because it was only based on assumptions comparing it to aircraft 10+ years newer and ignored the basic requirements this aircraft was made for. Sometimes actual history is more interesting than just making things up. For example the Ho 229 was a real aircraft, only the cannons weren’t mounted and that’s a very unusual plane.

Personally I’m not even against unfinished vehicles. I think they’re great when done right and there’s a few specific ones I’d really want to see in game somewhat soon like the Mitsubishi F-X 26DMU that had a lot of components built and is detailed enough to accurately model in game. But I think for fully paper vehicles there’s a lot more uncertainty about how they can be modelled, a lot more guesswork to be done, and I just don’t trust Gaijin to do it right when they struggle to even do that when the info they need is right there.

I think a small, short tree would be fun, but they need to make sure it has enough content and that it isn’t too patchy.

for me, it’s only really been a problem for 10.7+ ground and 12.0+ air. There are multiple unbalanced vehicles like the yak-9K

Game imbalance,

You wont like this - specifically one nation, Pantsir SV an insane addition, Giving every Russian a free Pantsir equally short sighted. Kh-38s, under brd premiums Su-30MK (whatever it is)
BMP-T and the consistent poor decisions you make with that certain nation.
Restricting NATO wepaons and vehicle performance for balance…Typhoon has 2 ARMs Su-30 has 6…

Top tier games being over in minutes, air RB being a snooze fest at every BR.

Ignoring bug reports, then asking for further information when you know you cannot argue against that change being made.

Your map designer needs to go to the Gulag. I am adamant it is a single person hitting generate me a map prompts in Copilot.

If this was a brand new game and it hit the shelves in this state you would be panned in the reviews. It is only your longevity and wearing down of players that we just try and find the diamond while wading through piles of excrement.

This game made me drink more than usual this last month.

The whole premium Su-30 debacle is just insane. Especially that CM justification for its BR. It’s so clear it’s being given preferential treatment to boost sales.

Hopefully they use the funds correctly.

Oh yeah sure they will, while we all just sit in the cuck chair.

I’m just the camera man for the show and it pays well.

I literally don’t vote on things like these surveys because the people attracted to these are coming in with an axe to grind, and nothing will satisfy those people.

It always needs to be an in-game survey to be ‘real’.

In game surveys are heavily sanitised, or to suit an agenda…In game surveys are the reason APHE was never changed…

But in the same sense, the forums are really only populated by those who have an issue to push due to a problem they face.

Even the same as the steam reviews lol.

Because the game has a lot of problems.

When you allow people to vote they will vote for the best outcome for them and not the game.

There is not a Russian main that can honestly say the Kh-38 is fair and balanced…But if Gaijin voted to change it…Well you wouldnt see a single vote for it from the Russian player base

That’s an opinion, see my mentioning above… Happy players aren’t here, they’re in the game playing.

And when people are upset at ‘the game’ or ‘the devs’ they’ll often exaggerate the effects of the issue in order to try force the change they demand because they are upset.

This is just anecdotal, and a trope to cry out to others who have that issue.

It’s not why do you think APHE change was not executed…Because Russia, Germany and the USA didn’t want it. It is proven, players are selfish and do not care about the health of the game. They just want to win.

Too many people treat this like an E-sports shooter when really it is a casual game.
