Which is quite hilarious considering it can probably out dogfight an F-100.
There’s zero reason for it to not be 9.3 right now, and it wouldn’t even be the worst 9.3 if it did go up.

Learn how to intercept people, you know where the bases and the airfield are, just position yourself so you can get close to him at the middle point between them closest to you and you get free shots/missiles off.
What a nothingburger of an advice. Of course you’re supposed to get between him and the bases/airfield. 2 things still prevent you from doing anything though: the spotting system which will prevent you from knowing exactly which base he’s going for, and his sheer engine power and speed. Even if you manage to get within 1km, that 1km will quickly turn into 2 if you’re in a subsonic, and if you get uptiered AT ALL, you will very likely not have any missles as the first jets that get 9bs reasonably start from 9.0. It doesn’t really matter if you do get missles as he can just dodge them and then regain the energy as fast as he lost it. Simply put, if he does not want to die and is not completely brain dead, you WILL NOT kill him if you’re in a subsonic.
You can guess which base they are going with a fairly high success rate, especially if you have some teammates or friendly AI left help with spotting. Usually it will be the closest one, and if you guessed wrong you get him on the return trip.
You can get in way closer than 1km in subsonics like the sabre, the speed difference is only 160kph if both of you are going at your top speed so it will take them 11 seconds to make up 500 meters distance to you. You can just hover above their path and dive in straight on top of their head if you time it right, so getting close enough to be in gun range is possible.
Missiles start appearing at 8.3 with sea hawks and cougar/javelin, at 8.7 you have the g91r4 (which is EXTREMELY popular and present in nearly every match at its br) and scimitar with four each. Not to mention your own team will also have 9.0s or better if you’re facing Su-7. If you closed in enough in the merge that’s enough to have a good chance at blowing them up.
They are all brain dead when they bomb. This is advice from experience and many shot down su-7s. The rare cases that are not brain dead don’t invalidate my advice for dealing with the brain dead ones. I kill them or see them die all the time in this br range, and just throwing your hands up and saying my advice is a nothingburger because it might not work 100% of the time is not constructive, it’s just whiny. You will always have to deal with planes faster than you and these are the best strategies for killing them if they don’t engage you.
I personally play the su-7 as a pure fighter and have over 800 matches in them, i know what the plane can and can’t do very well. 99% of people don’t even use 10% of its potential, so be glad for that.
True!
Additionally @TheFeyrisFlyer :
I second this. When you really look at it, in the 8.0-9.0 bracket it out accelerates anything, goes from M0.85 to M1 in 20 seconds at 0 meters, while top end sabres and migs usually top out at M0.9.
In one of my examples I caught out a bombing Su-7 going about mach 1 in my Lim-5 by attacking on a perpendicular interception course. The Su noticed when I was .8km away and just started pitching into me. I COULD NOT get guns on target while the Su was full pulling the elevators and after about 5 seconds, the insane retention of the Su just meant he could escape my effective firing range and accelerate back to the airfield. I do not know what I could have done better as a FIGHTER to successfully intercept a STRIKE AIRCRAFT(that by game design should have worse flight characteristics to prevent base farming with impunity).
It’s energy retention is not that good tbh, it’s a fat and long plane that takes a while to get up to speed
not for its br
Su-7 is technically not a designed attacker aircraft, Su-7 was built as a daytime fighter to rival such planes as the F-100. The bombing part only came into the story when they needed a more modern plane for such tasks and Su-7 was obviously more suitable for conversion to this role than a MiG-21 due to its larger size and engine. In fact you can fly the Su-7B as a very effective fighter plane in this game if you try, BKL is a bit trickier since its weight increased substantially. And as others have pointed out, in a turn its retention is only good if it stays in the close to mach .9+ regime as it simply compresses there, below that it will bleed off speed pretty quickly in a turn especially when carrying any ordinance.
Had a game where we were 2v3 and they had THREE of the fucking things just running laps around our J2 and my A4E late, what a wonderful experience.
I tried to takeoff thinking 8km away was enough distance for me to gain speed and have a chance to fight two of em (they both had horrible stats), and then the reality of a supersonic monster vs a dingy little subsonic attacker hit me in the cock (pit).
