After all these fire and J out, J to have full repair, etc. What is the reason of having J out despite “historically” abandoning aircraft? The pilots does not matter in game but repair goes to full. They won’t try to safe their lives themselves for approaching msl/ ground/ sea for realism. But J out gives players a chance to lose 100 ticket on their team and go back to hanger asap at a high alt. Does anyone have a real reason for it?
All will be fixed right after gayjin works out how to make rain wetter, snow whiter, fog denser, and the sun brighter oh and also after they make the bushes bushier!!!
I want to say that if you ejected after being shot down but before you were" killed" you didnt loose crew skill or something back in the day. I have no idea if that is true or not. But that might have been the origin or intention for it, but it does certainly feel somewhat unneeded. At least when airbourne.
But it does certainly feel like a remnant of Old Thunder.
J-ing out is useful for new players and even experienced players who are new to some aircraft in air sim EC.
It’s not difficult to take off, climb to an altitude and go too hard/eager on your controls and put your plane into a spin you lack the experience to recover. In addition, A.I aircraft can likewise inflict damage that takes stability away and such outcomes might indeed be truly irrecoverable (I’ve had a.i B-25s one tap cut my wing off!).
For the above situations, J-ing out without suffering damage from another player and “suiciding” is legitimate, needed and justified. Spinning 3km with damaged controls is not something one would expect of anyone to put up with.
And if you suffered damage from another player - given kill credit is awarded - J-ing out becomes justified in a lot more circumstances. I usually try to disengage and fight my plane to get back to a runway, or at least fly closer to friendly territory before bailing, but bailing out after losing half your tail and your plane jerks around like crazy rather than RTB a very strong reason to have the ability to J out.
The issue with bailing out is that it does not give credit in ASB without damage. It should give kill credit to closest player within 2 km range if not damage OR the owner of a missile that was launched and has a lock with a grace period afterwards (say, 5-10 seconds) to avoid people breaking the lock and then J-ing out. In event of multiple missiles, go to whoever launched first.
So, tl:dr:
Why do we have the J-out button?
- ASB rookies who are still learning how to fly being able to bail from stalls and spins they do not yet know how to recover from without any enemy nearby rather than spin for 1+km panicking
- ASB A.I causing damage-induced spins you will never recover from.
- RB and ASB alike where you suffered damage that makes you unable to fight back, and it’d be a significant effort and time to disengage and RTB - if even possible - so you bail out to concede the fight and give kill credit without crashing.
Or in Arcade when you need to switch to another plane according to the situation, e.g. a bomber heading to destroy your airfield, you can ditch you current attacker and get into an interceptor before it’s too late.
