The MI28NM problem

Yea, thx Sherlock.

Getting close

In any case, this will look less cool on a f&f + ldircm heli)

You can also beat my other personal record. 7 spaa per match. Although it is difficult to track with the new spaa.

After playing a few more battles with the MI28NM, i’ve came with the empirical observations of a MI28NM enjoyer:

Yes, it is currently very strong if played by a good player, it has better offensive capabilities than most of the competition: (AH-64E and Z10ME), but worse survivability since it has a worse DIRCM.

Airplanes are still the number one threat, most of the times i died it was to someone playing CAP, second place being autocanons (2S38 on mixed battles, HSTLV, RDF, Begle 57, KF41 and the Swedish autocannon tanks), third place being Radar based SPAAs (mostly Sky Saber), since they most of the time can hide behind a building and be nearly impossible to lock them properly, best strategy to deal with them is climb and descent, to make them waste all of their missiles, it usually takes 2 to 3 minutes, thankfully (for CAS enjoyers), few people are using these Spaas

IRIS T is still somewhat of a threat, in my experience it’s missiles bypass the DIRCM around 40% of the time, while the only real “normal” radar SPAA that is a threat is the ItO 90M since it’s missiles are very fast, and if a MI28NM player flew a bit too high while there is no SPAA, if a ItO90M spawns you die since you can’t descend fast enough to avoid and few maps have cover at medium altitude to helis to hide quickly.

Overall general stats of the MI28NM for next month will likely be pushed down, since i’ve been seen a LOT of players that just got it climbing, and not flying defensively or avoiding line of sight of the threats i just mentioned, often there are 1 or 2 MI28NM in a match that climb, fire two missiles, get a kill and die.

How to improve the situation? I have a few suggestions to players trying to counter the MI28NM: Do NOT stay sitting on the spawn, 90% of all SPAAs just sit in the open in the spawn, specially IRIS T mains, this is the first place MI28NM pilots will look for, to neutralize the spass so they can climb a bit more safely to target enemy tanks.

Second opinion/suggestion: Better CAP rewards, most CAP i’ve seen are players wanting revenge, but i think it would be greatly interesting if players spawning planes with just A2A loadouts get a bonus when getting air kills, a Close Air Patrol Kill bonus. It would incentivise these players for basically “sacrificing” the ground battle grind to help the team.

Third opinion/sugestion: All other helicopters at 12.3 should be buffed, (except AH64E that i’ve been seeing getting as good results in the hands of good pilots as the MI28NM, but being more survivable), give the german helis a better missile, and give the AH 129 Mangusta Spike 2s, since it still has only normal spikes, that very rarely do more than tracking and killing 1 or 2 crewmen.

Source: experience and observations taken while playing somewhat near 140 battles with only the LMURs in the MI28NM, often using a light tank to spawn the MI28NM in 1 to 2 minutes of battle

I have to agree, but at the same time I think the situation with helicopters is a delicate one — they were weak for a long time, and now they’re extremely strong. The same goes for the Russian nation: with every update, they just keep getting better. Meanwhile, when you play with the Abrams or the Leopard, you actually need to come up with tactics and a playstyle to make the nation work. The basic Russian tactic is simply to push forward and rely on their strong armor and gun as always.

If they manage to get three kills, they can spawn a Su or now a Mi, which will just wipe out the entire match. My next grind nation will probably be Russia too, but even then I’d still like to see some balance. I started playing this game thinking it was focused on strategy and knowing your enemy — but right now it feels like one specific nation is winning effortlessly while the others are just hoping the enemy team doesn’t have too many smart players so they might have a chance.

Of course, I’m mainly referring to top tier. There are some BR levels where the nations I mentioned are actually strong, but if I don’t say that, there’s always someone ready to jump in and defend it.

I think we won’t be getting those stats for October, so I guess we’ll never know.

Where should people go with their huge trucks that can’t fight ground vehicles ?

I think it’s better to just move those three helicopters up in BR, as buffing other 12.3s will just cause people to ask for their 12.0 helicopters to be buffed as well. This will spiral out of the control and just adds yet another level of compression.

Uparmored Leopards have better frontal armor and guns, what are you talking about ?

They are cracked and no other nation has anything remotely as good. Even if Stingers were buffed there’s only so many you can carry, on most helis it’s up to 4. Chinese helis have loadouts of 8 or 16.

The proxy APKWS would be useful to take out other LDIRCM helicopters which are immune to the usual IR based A2A weapons.

TY-90s are still absolutely cracked, I’ve seen people shamelessly fly with these to spawn camp airfields. Stingers, even if buffed, would still be inferior.

You don’t need any more than 8 at a time to be honest.

This would also affect the LAV-AD and other SPAAs with stingers.
Maybe those would go up in BR?

They’re inferior to Vikhirs in both range and speed. You’d be better off using the JAGM SALs.

They aren’t as good as they once were, but yes.

Though any skilled pilot at Top Tier can avoid them as long as they know it’s coming (or they can even just pre-flare them accidentally)

Yeah I see that happening on that map constantly.
Poor map design if you ask me.

Agreed.

so 2 pylons for them, or all 4 pylons of stingers

for self defense you can get by with a pylon of ty90, and be much more protected then a pylon of stingers, even if they get fixed

I mean, no harm in letting them take 12 or 16 TY-90s (4 pylons) tbh.
At that point they just become a mobile IRCCM Strela at 11.7 / 12.0 (with no contrast mode).

Well if they get fixed, it seems like they’d have similar capabilities as TY-90s. Though ATAS (FIM-92E from what I understand) doesn’t get proxy, while TY-90s do.

I mean, due to them not having an attached spawn point cost it lets them first spawn a very good AA platform that can hide between the plane spawn and battlefield

that is purely gaijin BS, the last stingers without proxy should have mostly aged out of inventory and expired before platforms like 64D and 64E entered service

Yes – basically a good 11.7 - 12.0 SPAA just because of surprise
Though once the surprise is gone, and there’s nowhere to hide, the Z-10 / Z-10ME is pretty easy to kill.

I agree.

I think they should add stingers with proxy and 22G overload for the Apache E and maybe the D.
All other ones can be stingers without proxy but still have the 22G overload limit.
They’d of course need to increase the BRs of some of the helicopters, while decreasing others.
(I think AH-6M and OH-58D would have to go to 10.7, for example, and AH-1Z to 11.3, while YAH-64 to 11.0).

would they? theres already a heli with 4 TY90 at 10.3 and OH-58 only gets 4 stingers, also AH-6 doesnt even get stingers in game.

idk about YAH but AH-1Z is currently overtired
alternatively AH-1Z could get SAL JAGM and AIM-9X (up to 6) and stay at its current BR, they could even add DAIRCM for it to give it LDIRCM in game

With those proposed buffs from tripod, Stinger slingers like LAV-AD would definitely need to go up in BR.

I guess that’s nothing new in WT.

Well, I also thought about that.
Z-9W exists at 10.3 and can carry 4x TY-90s.
However, it gets no thermals, no IRST tracking, and the missiles are much worse in most circumstances than hellfires. Though the Z-9W gets zoom at least.

My bad. The Little Bird can stay 10.3.

So I think it would make sense that the OH-58D would go up to 10.7.
The G-LYNX would also probably have to move up to 11.0.

Well think about it.
The Mangusta (AH-129CBT) is 11.0 and gets access to countermeasures and 4x (22G) Stingers.
The YAH-64 would also be 11.0, gets twice the number of hellfires, and much better zoom / thermals, but doesn’t get access to Stingers nor countermeasures.
I think that’s relatively balanced.

100% Agreed.
That would probably bump it up to 12.3, maybe 12.7 (may be better than the AH-64E tbh since it (from what I understand) doesn’t get access to AIM-9X).
