Maps like Fields of Poland and Arctic base exist, where i think they become a problem when they appear at BR 6.7-7.7 when rangefinders are uncommon and tanks are incredibly slow so capture points takes 20 minutes to get to. I support your point that small maps are focused on lower tiers
Overpressure is worse than this on a regular basis, to ALL tanks.
Except it does have training wheels…? People are literally getting kills because the fuse of their APHE is overpressuring tanks when the armour is 5x the effective penetration of the shell. You’re acting like it’s not training wheels just because it’s unintentional. I have literally seen people shoot like absolute idiots, myself included at times, and get rewarded for it.
You keep strawmanning that overpressure is strictly a mechanic hard locked for 150mm+ shells. It’s not. What’s more ridiculous, your CV being hull broken by any caliber of cannon to any part of the tank, or the Oerlikon 35mm HE overpressuring an Obj 279 by hitting the UFP? Or… me overpressuring a T-10M with Oerlikon HE? The mechanic is unbearably buggy to ALL tanks, rather than a mechanic that’s buggy only to light tanks. I know what I’d prefer to have.
Because it’s much easier to:
Not be detected, in a lighter, smaller tank
Not be acquired, in a lighter, faster, smaller tank
Not be hit, in a lighter, smaller, faster tank
And subsequently, not be penetrated or killed in a light tank.
I second this, current system is way more adequate. Like when HB was triggered by APFSDS rods hitting corners of the hull or even roof mg or these instant deaths from fire you have no chance to extinguish, and even as heavy things as Centauro were victims of that awful “mechanics”. That was a total BS.
My IS-4 just got overpressured by a Gepard APHE to the angled 160mm side armour. Fantastic feature - very glad we have this as a near every-game occurence. At least XM800T’s no longer get hull broken by 120mm APDS passing through them.
I got curious, so I went to check in server replays. This is on Eastern Europe, right?
The replay clearly shows that you were not, in fact, overpressured. You were down to 2 crew members and the Gepard killed one, which resulted in your destruction through crew loss.
I was going backwards through the server replays to find this, and as I did so, I saw you successfully engage and destroy an ITPsV Leopard and two PZG88s with the IS-4. So, at least from the sample of matches I saw, the tally for the night is 3-1 K/D for your 7.7 heavy tank against autocannon spam, even in uptiers. You’ve got nothing to complain about.
Idk where you’re getting this strawman lmao
Overpressure for APHE literally shouldn’t exist and if it should remain then it should be restricted to very large HE filler ammo (128mm to 155mm).
So this is where you’re wrong about hull break being buggy. The BS kills with 7.7mm MGs and literal non-penetrations aren’t bugs, those are working as intended and the reason why it was such a dogwater mechanic that exclusively served to punish light armor for daring to exist.
That’s not fair or balanced, it’s arbitrary punishment for one type of tank that really no longer is better than the comparable MBTs or MTs of the same BR. Barring APHE autocannons that overperform massively. Hull break wasn’t “light armor is too strong let’s make them weaker” it was “light armor gets whined about too much let’s make them unplayable”.
Yes… because overpenetration is a real thing that happens. Light armor isn’t just a soap bubble waiting to stop existing from a single particle of dust landing on it.
I can’t believe you’re trying to justify this. You just openly posted that a Gepard API round killed me through an angled 160mm plate. And this is somehow acceptable because I pulled off a lucky third person hit vs an ItPsv that was full throttle and some Chinese SPAA that got outflanked?
What’s there to justify? You said you were overpressured, I went to check, and you were not overpressured.
Armour is not homogenous everywhere. By angling the way you did, you gave the Gepard the angle needed to punch through. In your bad luck you even got “good luck” that your ammo didn’t detonate. (Incidentally angling that way you also exposed your driver port to the Maus, FYI, so you would have died anyway).
Even though this was not the exact angle the shell went in at, it is the one place where you can be penned. If you had just sat still you would have been unpennable to anything but the APDS (which the Gepard player did not have chambered).
Yes? This is a PVP game, the full expectation is that you will win some engagements and lose others. High RoF autocannons are underestimated at your peril, but you can easily deal with them when you play correctly (as you did in other matches in that session), if they existed just to be food for you then no one would play them. Simple as.
BTW, you forget the PGZ88 that desperately tried to take out your breech, failed over multiple bursts, got its breech damaged by your HMG, and got eventually bonked.
Is the Gepard shot(s) going through the side just above the road wheels?
160mm side armor except for a strip just above the wheels that is ~ 65mm.
That’s the sad thing about those autocannons - they only need to aim in general direction of where known weak spots are because of the ROF. Just spray.
