Thrust to flare ratios is how it works for IR missiles flare resistance:

Confirmed with a dev, the only thing that matters for decoying an IR missile is the thrust to flare signature ratio.

Not specifically no, but the Harrier’s (all of them) gain the most thrust at lower speeds, so as you turn and flare you’re increasing in thrust and lowering the ratio between the two. This probably explains why it feels hard to flare an IR missile, as you’re probably already going pretty slow while defending.

But yes, Its likely that all aircraft IR signatures are based upon Thrust. So if the F-5 has low thurst curves. Then its just immune to IR missiles

they should at-lest give a signature boost for afterburners
at-lest i think it cannot get any hotter than dumping extra fuel into the exhaust and burning that
even if exhaust temperature is hard subject which is depend on lots of variables

even just compressing air causes lots of heat before any burning takes place

Well that’s because F-5Cs engines are:

1. very small
2. quite cool compared to other afterburning engines

J85s have similar exhaust temps to other engines. The plume is just absurdly small for some reason.
