Honestly, I feel like when they eventually introduce new advanced SAMs they will hope people’s interest in this thread will gradually wane.
Not having to explain why Russia got such a OP weapon with no evidence to back it up…
I swear to god if I hear this again, in mode 2 you designate the target it flies there like point fire on IR and TV AGMs and then once at a certain range it would lock on with its seeker. Unless gaijin model it really god damn wrong in mod 2 it should team kill as about as often as IIR missiles, its not like we are volley firing off 10 missiles with out locks and just waiting to see what happens
5000 messages…
Still nothing to actually counter OPs claims.
Gaijin plz address this
I think the OP is right, just look at this
Kh-38MT in game:
Kh-38ML in game:
Kh-29TE in game
You can clearly see that the Kh-38MT and ML currently in game share almost the same aperture on the seeker, but an actual IR seeker has a much bigger aperture (like the Kh-29) because an IR seeker so tiny woudn’t work that well at +20Km of distance, how could it catch an infrared radiation trace when it has a seeker so tiny that would limit the amount of radiation absorbed?
It’s like opening your eye, if you close your eyelids, you will only see the center, while the outline will be darker and blurry, with a really tiny FoV. If you open your eyelids to the maximum you will have the brightest and uniform possible vision and have the maximum FoV. That’s the same
They just released a video on the main page outlining the KH-38MT too lol. Check out the Video Digest.
kh-29 isnt IR it is TV guided and the actual seeker element isnt that big
by cooling the seeker with liquid nitrogen
you dont need a huge seeker for it to be IR guided look at the AGMs or the LMUR for example:
LMUR is a russian IR AGM they are using on helicopters iirc
the KH-38MT is modeled after the one that was shown at th MAKS expo in 2017
and the kh-38ml is modeled after this one:
aren’t fins on the ML in game much larger?
This was already disproven

Also, this has nothing to do with the topic
Btw I’ve seen Smin answering in another topic. I wonder if he would come visit us by any chance.
He’s already been pinged at least 5 times at some point during this, and has yet to make an appearance, so probably not :/
The ML seen in-game is modelled after the ones seen in use in Ukraine.
He just doesnt have anything to say, since his statements are taken as official gaijin responses, and Gaijin clearly just wants the topic to die.
Theres certainly a number of jabs one could take at this statement, but as you said these would be offtopic.
If they wanted it to die they would have a moderator lock it for being grossly offtopic which is a good enough excuse, and have the mod that did it say something like “we’ve fowarded these concerns to the devs blah blah blah”
Definitely the BIAS towards one single nation theories now are rising.
More like: “We decided to give Russia this AGM because bla bla bla and we based it on the Lmur platform of IR missiles and here is why we believe it would have used the same seeker bla bla bla, thread closed”.
LMUR cant hit moving targets in IR mode
It can fly to a target area but there is no data to say it can track a moving target autonomously
Thank you for the reply
Oh, my bad, I didn’t know. Thank you for correcting me.
Yes, but that doesn’t fully explain the absurd range the Kh-38MT has currently with that seeker.
You have 2 options for enhance IR guidance: increase the seeker dimensions or lower the temperature of the seeker’s sensor.
If the seeker is the same as the ML but the IR seeker is cooled down to almost -200°C, the temperature delta between the seeker and the target could get maybe to 280°C in excellent conditions, it would make a strong lock for short distances, but for that far it would need at least a Datalink or some type of communication with the aircraft/targetting pod. Like Fox-3, yes they are self guiding but only about 16km away from the target (in war thunder at least).
That is probably not accurate, if you go to the LMUR picture you provided, you can see that the IR seeker has the diameter of almost the entire body of the missile, which makes sense in order to achieve better guidance with IR targetting.
Also, on the missile is written Kh-38ME (Х-38МЭ) both on the side and on the top.
This is a Kh-38MLE (Х-38МЛЭ), it is written on the side of the missile
Anyway the OP is right, no one has been able to prove if the Kh-38MT does actually exist.
