idk about most radars, but at least for su-30sm2 with irbis, it is rated to detect and track air to air and air to surface missiles. I would assume for most modern esa radars they can easily detect and track air to air and surface to air missiles.
older radars like the ones on mig-29, hell no.
grippy radar for example (mech scan one) can detect missiles even though it’s mech scan
That didn’t answer my question at all. I’m sure it can detect them from side aspect or any deviation from front aspect. Due to the radar being able to hit the side of the missile and return with a clear image.
My question is about front aspect. I will ask again since the missile has a conical nose, after the radar diffracts over the nose and returns to the plane, does it get a radar return comparable to the size of coin?
Right so that is a very vague statement. Maybe research under wich conditions? Or how it deals with the small radar signature and can distinguish between a bird. Then the success rate of interception at different aspects. If I am to accept stealth in the form of radar diffraction like the f117 then shouldn’t the concept apply to other things?
Modern cars a safer than older cars. Another example of a vague statement.
What are the radar improvements?
It makes since that ships can intercept missiles better now. The ship is underneath the missile and behind the missile(due to the missile leading it). This allows for the radar to see a larger radar cross section.
It makes since that ground defenses find anything small traveling at mach 3 and send a huge ass missile to proxy fuse.
It makes since that fighter jets have been used to intercept missiles going after ships. Can we name a modern example of when a missile from an adversary fighter jet was shot by another fighter jet?
