The game is in the worst state ever

Gentlemen enough. We aren’t here to play with words. I was talking about the game as whole. Not just planes nor just tanks. I would love to play both but I can not enjoy planes in their actual form.

I just want the game have a clear path to improvement. We need to improve the basics first, game modes, maps, eliminate rendering issues, graphical issues, improve sound in some areas, improve the game as whole, then we can maybe proceed with more detail.

Yes it would be nice to have modeled tank interiors but at is is now we do not really need them in game. In order for them to work we need to work on sim part of ground forces where it could be used.

But I would not say that tanks are in lower quality compared to planes. Planes are using damage models which I can imagine taking from other planes and reworking them. Cockpits are mostly for one person.
Tanks on the other hand use armor, there are different armor types and different ammo types, (composite, era) we need to take angle of impact of shells into consideration, there is a lot going on with every shot and hit. I think that a lot of work went into planes/ helis, tanks and ships as well and every vehicle is working with a lot of detailed work which can be sometimes harder to see at first glance.

As mentioned I don’t see a clear heading for the game right now. Are they catering to what is “trendy” nowadays ? Are they working on something “big” which will surprise us as community ? Are there some new ideas coming ? To be honest the roadmap for 2024 is a little lackluster for me personally and there are even some changes that I do not like at first glance (healing crews) but we will see what their idea is.

They need to set priorities and work on them. Do we really need to change battle UI for tank battle mod ? I think that is just graphical representation which is nearly at the bottom of important changes. We need work on the fundamentals first and just then we can move on some less important stuff.

For me ideally they could update us idk every 3 months what they have been working on. Ask on ideas from community, maybe some help if needed, some feedback and work on it with players. More people, more brains - more ideas.
The whole process of development could be more open towards community. We could test new things, collect data, work with them and so on…
We have got a lot of players compared to past.

For example one of my problems with Air Rb is short time limits and ticket bleed as mentioned earlier. Maybe some people had no idea we had longer and in some cases more memorable battles back then. Maybe some people had no opportunity to play WT back then. Why can we not open a RB event mode for a month with old timer, let it run next to regular battles so people can try them out ? After a month we can close them and collect ideas, feedback and compare popularity.
It will be fine if only 10-20% players will enjoy them. Maybe add something according to feedback, open another round in 3 months and maybe 30% will like it.

I mean we can not just push out massive changes without testing them. We can experiment to find something new and more interesting which will add new experience for us as players. We can achieve it just be trying new things.

There is so much potential in WT. In 2015 I was wondering if WT will reach it, idk in 10 years ? Here we are and I would say it is still standing still, even worse bringing in more problems/ errors and worsening the experience for a part of the community. Ofc a part of community can enjoy what we have now.

And again, cockpits are tiny compared to the whole tank interior. The amount of effort and manhours needed to model tank interiors is gargantuan, thus very expensive. The handful of sim players wouldn’t be able to pay all the funds backs. Which is the reason why there are only “placeholders” for bombers’ cockpits (and those would be much simplier than tanks’ interiors). Also, again, WT is not a hardcore sim…
It’s all about economy. Effort = money. Detailed tank interiors like you wish would cost a truckload without any chance to get a reasonable portion back…

In short I am finding less and less space in this game for the adult and more and more space being given to children yet the average age seems to be over 18 by a long way and even over 30 in many cases.

Most of people playing the game today grew up playing COD and watching anime.

That is right. I have no idea why that is. Maybe children can dedicate more time into the game ?

It is fine to have different game modes, some can enjoy what we have now. But there is a lot of room for improvement. Or even bringing back old game would be enough for a more tactical and slower gameplay.

Not if Bruce R1s squad post is anything to go by they didn’t, and I certainly didn’t. I hate that Japanese drivel but that is not the point .

I don’t see why Gaijin cant have some faith in itself and what it always did well. It got big for a reason now it is going against the things that brought us here in the first place.

I went into the left side of the Poland map in the summer map today and suddenly I find all the bushes and cover gone and Im tipped out into a big open field and getting blasted lol …Im like WTF happened there? Sudden silly changes that were never needed.

True. They have a unique game which can bring in different playerbase. As you told they should stick to that. Instead they are trying to bring in a little bit from everything and the mishmash is not great in any of them.

Same for me. I had many similar occasions on different maps after their changes… Poland is a “crude” map for me now. The B and A side (north of the city) is just meh, there is no long range anymore in most cases. You just have to follow some dips to the middle where you meet enemy at 100-300m, kill them and go spawn camp them. They turned it into CQC even on larger maps. Before you could engage up to 1200m which is still just “medium range”

Last time I was racing there in my chally mk.3 which is slower than enemy T80s and leo 2s, there were 6 of them just waiting for me there on one field road in the middle…

There are other small maps which I do not like above BR of 3.0 that I had no idea can be restricted even more they already were.

Concerning COD4 came out nearly 20 years ago, which is one that started its popularity, it fits with 30+ age members Bruce was talking about.

No one said hardcore though… Hell i didn’t even insist on sim being relevant to this discussion. All i said is that the level of efort they put in tanks is way lower.

Btw. The sim players were unlikely to pay for the aircraft cockpits when WT came out. They did it anyways.

In the initial calculation of WT, aircraft Cockpit weren’t profitable either. They still did them. The sim Community was way smaller in 2013, even in terms of relative size.

By far one of my biggest gripes with the game. We can choose between pointer aim and direct control for aircraft, but are forced to use pointer aim for tanks. As a controller user, this is especially frustrating.

My one other most wanted QoL/gameplay improvment would be to lock your aircraft to your camera in third-person, when using Realistic Controls… instead of it wobblying all of the place with significant delay. It’s already far harder to aim than pointer aim, but this makes it borderline unusable for no reason.


You’re absolutely right that tanks don’t get anywhere near the love that aircraft do, to the degree of being a detriment to gameplay. Ground RB, specifically, brings out the worst of this due to its specific ruleset.

We have no nametags (not inherently bad) combined with see-over-cover-while-being-literally-impossible-to-see third-person, combined with no barrel collision so you can hug the cover you’re peeking around in third-person, combined with gunsights inside barrels with no parallax, combined with the same generic simple reticle for every vehicle together allowing for pixel-accurate shooting (thankfully pixel shells are gone), combined with separate volume sliders for your own and enemy engine sounds in a multiplayer(!) game… and that’s just a short list.

It’s embarassing that tanks still have CoD-style forehead shooting (the only vehicle type to do so in WT) when the not-at-all-a-sim Battlefield series has had proper sight offset for small arms and vehicles for a decade now.

Please find me a mouse with 60 key bind functionality for a tank. One more thing as others have stated these models are old in terms of texture and take a lot of time to flesh out. While it would be nice to see better-looking models it’s nothing more than a minority in focus.

Another thing is you want a single mouse control for aircraft, but dude I’m sorry that’s not gonna happen, the realism you envision will not happen as this is not what the game is and never was. Another thing is several aircraft in the game have the bomb or trigger for the armaments for their aircraft in another stick positioned to the left. While this can be simulated with mouse control, it still doesn’t change the fact that you would be converting a gamemode into a game of micromanaging and making it more frustrating than it should have been.

Seen way too many before you have the same idea of WT being a realistic game almost straight down asking for things more similar to that of Foxhole. Which would lead to alienating your entire community and killing it.

Now i have spoken and i will not be responding back since you repeated the same thing people have for over the past years probably back when it was still using assets from Wings Of Prey.

First of all, that’s a strategy game.

Second be specific. Most of the stuff asked for under the guise of realism have nothing to do wirth realism. And everything that is actually a demand about realism mostly only belonds in sim. So it wouldn’t change WT in it’s entirety at all. AB and RB should remain the shooters they are.

We used to have all the things you want on the old Microsoft games for the computer in the 90s .They came with a full keyboard overlay and a big thick manual.
One vehicle specific and for the time quite detailed. Great fun, immersive but not War Thunder and certainly not War Thunder realistic.

What you suggest is impossible when we have so many vehicles.

What the OP is looking for I think is a return to the glory days of WT when the maps felt right and the balance felt right. The issue is deciding exactly when that time actually was.

I loved Silent Hunter which was a very detailed game but even that had a choice of levels of realism and very few ran it as a real sub would run with zero external views and pure sonar and periscope. You also had to get a pen and paper and calculate the torpedo triangulation to hit a target. We can all go that far but do we want to here?

But only meant ground forces. I told you that this is stupud as wt is more than that and you cannot judge WT by it’s worst vehicles and then i explained why tanks are the redheaded stepchild of war thunder.

So your statement needs to be corrected from “war Thunder is in it’s worst state” to “ground forces is in it’s worst state.”
