With the recent additions such as SLM and other updates, I’ve been considering a potential solution to help reduce or mitigate the prevalence of CAS (Close Air Support).
One idea is to introduce a new achievement or badge called “Saviour of CAS”. This badge would be awarded—along with bonus credits—when a player successfully eliminates an aircraft (or helicopter) carrying offensive payloads such as bombs, ATGMs, or GBUs.
By recognizing and rewarding effective anti-air (AA) play in this way, it could encourage more players to actively spawn and engage as AA units. Ultimately, this could contribute to a more balanced gameplay experience by naturally countering excessive CAS dominance.

SLM is getting out of control.
Right now, if 3 or 4 players spawn SLMs at once, flying becomes nearly impossible. You barely leave the runway and you’re already locked or shot down. Even if you use terrain, fly low, pop flares, or play smart, it doesn’t matter—it’s just too much to deal with.
It’s actually really hard to fly in this environment, and it’s taking the fun out of playing aircraft.
Because of that, I think there should be a limit of 2 SLMs per team. That way, they’re still effective at stopping CAS, but they don’t completely shut down the air side of the game.
since i do know that Gaijin has moved the airfeild a lillte longer away but still it cant be that the slm can kill you when just landed/spawned.
The game is in fact ready, the only problem that causes this overwhelming, on good, finally, is that War Thunder’s map are very small, you don’t have room to maneuver, this is the problem.
I highly doubt Gaijin will ever make a specific gamemode like ground battles but in excessively larger maps, which I’m full in to be honest, but again, very unlikely.
I think CAS should be usable (A Challenge sure, but actually usable) and I dont think all nations have anything that has a chance against the SLM at the moment.
Though my biggest concern is that only one nation has an SLM equal. If Soviets and Germany are on the same team. They can CAS all day long without worry but the other team cannot even spawn CAP to fight back.
But solution cannot come from limiting players to what ground vehicles they can play.
Imagine hard limit of 2 SLMs per team and one goes AFK and other one is stupid. Now the only thing me or other players can do is to get bombed repeatedly until one of them gets destroyed or Js out.
Limiting SLM wouldnt solve this issue. Some nations would still lack competetive CAS even if you would limit SLM to 2 per team.
Currently, yeah. But again, same as above. Even if you limit SLMs to two per team, some nations will still lack competetive AA.
As for rn yes maneuvering in map is hard but on certain maps i can take for example F15I and have snake bombs and bomb slm sure i would have ping his radar at least once but don’t attack from a very expected side now there are multiple ways to deal with slm which me explaining would just be too long but you can see tactics how to deal with it without harm now sure guided munitions would appear on his radar and certain aircraft cant overwhelm them like baracks with only 4 spice bombs now here one of my tactics i love take with u for example 2 spice bombs and 12 bombs and u can overwhelm 2 launchers now ur asking urself how is it possible so you go high alt outside of their range then drop the bombs(dumb) while climbing at their spawn and then drop the guided ones to their radars its all the same plus they don’t look at the alt of the bombs on the radar screen(i will once actually a video tmrw on how to do it)
Oh yeah. I do agree, it is completely the wrong solution, but there certainly is a bit of an issue with top tier CAS vs SPAA balance at the moment.
The better solutions are:
Bring everyone up to some degree of parity in terms of SPAA
Bring everyone up to some degree of parity in terms of CAS (Equal AGMs and stand-off weapons for fixed wing, FnF for everyones helis and maybe some new tools)
Decompress top tier (11.0-12.0 CAS should not be facing Pantsirs and IRIS-T SLMs
Most of the time issue being maps too flat and has no terrain around it (look: fields of poland, european province). On the range it still can be defeated since missile stil uses Dl and iog to guide so all needed is defeating radar lock aka notch. And if enemy team decides to spawn 4 AA at the first spawn, you should consider that as an advantage and push them out in the cap and rush into their spawn. And yeah, if they wanna overwhelm you, F15 still competent with Sbd39 load. (Or be chad and bully all these click and point lazy AAs with z10me)
they will probably add Aster 30 , buk m3 , ARMs in the next update. im assuming the ARM part , but aster 30 n buk m3 was discussed by BVVD in the previous dev server. im afraid germany is gonna suffer next cus they dont have a proper sead aircraft (only the tornado can sead).
