Then there are two funny ones that are not ww2 subs, but they are faster underwater than above:
S-99 which had a steam‑gas accelerator - 37,04 under, 20,37 above
K-222 - 83,06 under, 35,19 above
Redoutable (1928) => 31 km/h surfaced, 18 km/h submerged
Surcouf => 34 km/h surfaced, 18 km/h submerged
And for cold war and modern days :
Rubis => 37-46 km/h submerged (depending on sources)
Suffren => 42-50 km/h (depending on sources) submerged, 26 km/h surfaced
Though for cold war and modern subs, what will matter the most is silent running speed, and torpedoes generally get some wild speeds too, so it’s not like you can hope to out run one
Oh i thought you meant overall but tbh i think submarines will be it either it’s own tree ir own tree but wir like heli’s i doubt gaijin would di what you think
I’d like to have the fastest submarine of World War II - the Japanese IJN I-201, which had an underwater speed of 35 km/h and a surface speed of 29.17 km/h. Especially with mini long lenses, too <3
Yeah that’s great but what he was talking about was stuff already mentioned with more details he can explain a bit more about.
The subs on the other hand were teased near the end of the CM with just some images, but as stated by a few staff that more official news will be shared when able to so asking them before then is pointless as you will just be told the same thing I said.
There are literally hundreds of options for premium/event submarines. Like of the Type VII uboat class, over 700 were built. Almost 200 for the Type IX.
The US Gato had 77 built, and the Balao had an impressive 120 boats built.
Obviously there are many more across various nations, so I feel like the options are endless.
Naval also has different rules remember Germany had a lot of final drafts for subs. Cover Shores has a lot of good articles on WW2 subs if you dig around. (Uboat_XXIXH)
Plus spearfish goes wooosh, though hopefully Gaijin implements speed control on these torps, otherwise a Spearfish going 80 knots off the tube is going to be a death sentence, considering it probably won’t be very discreet
All of the British SSN’s will be very good, particularly the later classes (Swiftsure, Trafalgar, Astute).
But yes Astute is usually cited as the current SSN Apex predator by most sources (including those outside of Britain, I checked :p)
If not added then it will disadvantage others more than us as we can outrange outmaneuver and outrun the torpedo’s of our enemies better than they can against us, but also we stand with the most to gain compared to other nations. Spearfish uses a quiet launch dual mode system it creeps out of the tube, gains distance silently (the launch supposedly has no detectable effect on the signature of the submarine when paired with Astute specifically), it then activates the turbine and cruises, (remember its a pumpjet propulsed torpedo too, so at cruise speed there’s very little cavitation).
Then it throttled up to 80 knots under 3 known circumstances, once it goes active, if the guidance wire snaps so it can begin actively searching for a target, or if a pursuit is needed post-detection of the torpedo (you are not outrunning 80 knots at anything within the Spearfish’s engagement and detection range).
Indeed, but if it comes to a battle of whoever shoots first gets spammed, well the British submarines that use spearfish have (some of) the quietest acoustics of their generations with (some of) the best sonars, so they’re likely to outrange your shot anyway.
The Greater Underwater Propulsion Power Program boats are going to be nice there cold war mods of classic veterans of WW2!
Basically strip off the guns load up the hull with what’s best. The Guppy Program was inspired by German U-Boat tech. Interestingly some that where sold off would regain a gun at times.
