State of naval in 2026 and its potential future (POLL)

naval is genuinely the worst mode in the game right now. like its not even close theres no reason to play naval the BRs are completely unfair you have Destroyers facing literal battleships and light crusiers against heavy crusiers with no cover. naval is a joke of a mode in this game now in 2026 its literally 90% bots and the Team balancing isnt even fair at all cause one team can receive a 5.7 heavy cruiser while the others are stuck with light cruisers. it gets to a point either balance the mode make fair teams or remove the mode im tired of waiting for something to be done but naval is in such state that its almost unplayble. and due to it being such a horrible mode many players avoid it now so much so naval almost has no voice to speak out so im making this community poll to try and get back a voice for naval. multiple warthunder content creators have spoke out about this just for it to fall on deaf ears such as phly daily

yeah but i mostly play blue water but i do know coastal has same problems

Well in costal some fishing boat armed with bunch of guns and cannons and those torpedo boats probably only got 2x 50cals, torepedo aren’t really useful overthere and sometimes instead of meeting boat you meet ships. Boat made of wood vs ships made of steel.

Coastal compression is a huge issue in 3.3-4.3. That area also needs greater attention.

Some boats shouldn’t even face reserve destroyers. For example, Schütze doesn’t have torpedoes or call-in artillery to counter destroyers. This boat always gets into uptiered battles, and it’s rare to get loaded into downtiered battles.

5.X-6.X compression in the Bluewater battles is quite bad, too.

They have to change the economy for coastal too. There’s no way I am paying a fishing boat with autocannons and torpedoes for 1M SL and 300K RP at BR 4.3

I honestly think Naval at higher BR then we have atm would be better…Modern Naval, CIWS, VLMS ext + Modern Subs. Not really interested in older era of Naval until they add Subs.

Hope we get to the Modern Naval at some point…basically what War Thunder Mobile has, do a good ui for Modern Naval like ARB has for 3rd person and you’re set.

If they added modern naval, there would definitely be an increased number of players.

That is very much a question of what BR im playing, because some of it is, some of it isnt.

and even those BRs that arent great, again, it sometimes is and sometimes isnt .

The gamemode is perticularly affected by the exact MM

We need missile ships.

Gotta start from late Cold War ships with early missiles.

honestly one of the worst things in naval is in coastal at around 3.0 where they introduce the opposite of glass cannons. basically you have very hard to kill minelayers and merchant ships that take a beating like its no tomorrow and on paper this wouldnt be a problem if they didnt add some that on top of being hard to kill also have good cannons.

for example: in the german tt there is the “Drache” which is one big boi armed with 2x 88mm flak cannon at the front and back (meaning you need to broad side to go from very bad armament to a little less armament). then it got 2x dual mounted hand loaded 37mm flak cannon that are not even noteworthy because of the doodoo ahh placement and the horrendous damage output. and last but not least it got 2x 20mm Flakvierlinge which is decent at killing planes from time to time. and then it got 40x sea mines and some depth charges but those are so nieche that i think im the only one who cares about that.
All in all this has pretty bad, slow firing weapons while being able to take a few hits before anything gets damaged.

And then you have the Amiens, a french premium merchant ship that has SO many guns compared to the drache it makes you wonder why you even face it. im not joking when i say that this thing comes straight from hell because this thing can two shot me for some reason and i CAN NOT do anything about it. disabling guns leaves them with more guns and killing it first is impossible since its a bunker (jsut how i also am supposed to be a bunker but oh well).

Now one simple fix would be moving it up to 4.3 where it belongs or even removing it all together if you ask me but this thing SHOULD NOT be where its at right now.

And this is only one of many unfair encounters where trying to play the game regularly puts you at a systematic disadvantage compared if you play the “META” ships like the Amiens or the SKR-7 form the russian tech tree. the powerlevels simply overlap too much and winning a match it less based on skill or map knowledge but rather if you are up or downtiered or if the enemy has a certain vehicle.

EDIT: and for anyone claiming “skill issue”, those encounters arent 1v1’s but rather "my entire team"v1 since multiple of us cannot defeat that damn ship reliably as a team even.

one of the craziest parts about naval is that they dont care about vehicle balance literally said they expect players to play the country they want even if its bad

gaijin cant even balance current ships let alone missiles

im throwing iowa on there too literally better than every other 8.3 and 8.7 ship and has no downsides

Or at least like fix the bugs of Yamato to get it on any reasonable level with the Soyuz and Iowa.
Played Yamato week ago. I suprisingly didnt get hit but I saw mupltiple Yamato and musashi get one tapped.
