Something needs to be done about 8.3 - 9.0 SPAA [Poll]

I think 2s38 is and the italian one is like the top 2 AA gun in the game. I cant remember the italian one name tho

Can they do third-person target lock though? that’s what makes M247 react extremely quickly to ground hugging CAS

prett sure 2s38 cant but not sure about the italian one cuz it has a radar

M247 eats gepard for breakfast, only thing it ain’t better at doing is killing tanks. If you wish to discuss that aspect, that’s an issue of compression and wrongful implementation of APHE. Gepard should not be at the same BR as M247, and is most certainly not a side-grade, rather a downgrade in terms of its performance as an actual SPAA

Edit: gepard could potentially be 9.0 or 9.3 if it gets the FAPDS round or whatever it’s called, the one that has a proxy function. (After looking this up closer it seems the Gepards FAPDS-T doesn’t actually have a proxy function, just does a little more damage. So I’d say that the max the Gepards would be max 9.0 with it.)

Being able to just, on the fly, switch between being a debatable overpowered SPAA and being a TD is extremely valuable.

Gepard gun lacks coils neccesarry for programming the AHEAD munition youre probably thinking of.

Gepard 1A2 is the only variant presented ingame that recieved the new V0 measuring coils which allow the use of high-muzzle velocity ammunition (up to 1450 or 1500m/s, can’t recall) - such as DM 33 FAPDS (MV: 1400 m/s or 1440m/s depending on variant)

The other KDA-based vehicles we have ingame did not and can not use this round for anti-air purposes.

New V0 measuring coils: (Gepard 1A2)

“Old”/Regular V0 measuring coils: (Gepard, ITPSV 90, Chieftain Marksman, Type 87, XM246, etc.)

I assume that PGZ09 (which uses an export variant of the GDF-001 / KDA) could technically fire it, given that it uses the modern coils for programming AHEAD ammunition, however I highly doubt it ever used FAPDS, as the main purpose of that round is Anti-Air usage.

Oh wasnt too well informed on that, thanks for the clarification on the ammunition and gun types, Guess the stock gepard can’t really be given much to improve its AA performance.

Yeah i only see the gepard ebing 8.7 viable honestly, due to compression sending it higher will kill its efficiency exponetially.

I wouldn’t call it overpowered, it’s quite spicy where it is and can be moved to 8.7, it’ll be fine there, as for the rest yeah it’s pretty valuable to be able to efficiently engage ground, but moving it up in BR should also help against that a little, and or just nerf its APHE post pen damage as I’ve already stated I’m in favour of.

found on reddit a falcon upper front plates a t80u

and it was the aphe shell so somehow a 53mm pen shell just penned an angled 50mm high hardness plate TIMES THREE not to mention the 60mm of textolite and all the contact 5

this is the point —>

this is your head —>

i was talking about spaa fighting CAS, not tanks.

huh, they are in fact different. neat detail, thanks for bringing this to my attention.

You could try to remove tnt grams from their APHE belt and removing overpressure making them still usable against light tanks but insanely harder to frontally kill MBTs from a nanopixel or cupola

You can frontally pen a T72 with the SAPHE - I for example…ive noticed that with the M247,somehow i managed to kill a bunch of T72 and T80s with by just spraying the upper front plate randomly till something somehow pens…with SAPHE btw

Most of them are pretty hard to use. I’m not sure if you have tested AS20, which was OP before; now it must direct hit the SPAA and then get killed.

Not only Leopard, I mean for all the 35mm guns, SPAA should be considered at least 8.7, and radar SPAA should be at least 8.0, we need to give some place for those early Cold War jets

I tried Bullpups, but yeah i can find it believable that the Nords aren’t as good.

If i understand your point correctly, I dont see how M163 and 7.3 Shilka are worthy of being 8.0 without decompression of some kind. They have bad bullet ballistics, which means in practice they aren’t capable of hitting a maneuvering target outside of 1.5km at best. M163 doesn’t even have a radar only tracking, and Shilka radar is known for being next to useless. But decompression as a whole is needed in the WW2 - Cold war section where there is very little space for the vehicles.

2S38 can’t since it only has IRST track. OTOMATIC should.

I think they should just implement realstic APHE damage (conical instead of spherical) for calibers <40mm.
That would mostly fix the absurb pixel sniping APHE spam that SPAAs cause without causing any issues with balancing amongst tanks using APHE.

I’d also add that they should make it such that low-calibre APHE shells can’t penetrate anything after ricocheting, which would stop any trap-shots (or shooting the ground and ricocheting) from killing tanks like the IS-4M and Jumbo 76.

For the most part, I agree.
The only exception that I think would be understandable is the slow chieftain marksman.

Even radar SPAAs like the ZSU-37-2 and the neutered Veak 40 are probably worth 8.0 to be honest.
I think the M163 at 7.3 is fine, though. The ZSU-23-4M2 (7.3 at the moment) might be more reasonable at 7.7 since its radar counterpart is 8.0 (which is mostly fine I guess), and because the M163 is arguably worse than the ZSU-23-4M2 in multiple aspects.

Why would you say this? You want it fighting CAS that are 8.0 to 9.0 with it’s modest ROF?

I don’t see the issue? The ZSU-23-4 is 8.0 with its abysaml range.
The ZSU-37-2 and Veak 40 can at least kill most medium tanks from the side at that BR too.
Other than the Arado (which honestly should be 7.7 for GRB) and maybe some other CAS, they absolutely dominate the 6.7-7.7 CAS.
I believe the earliest CCIP / CCRP introduction to aircraft is at 8.3 (other than the Swedish prop plane at 4.3), and MCLOS AGMs only start becoming common at 8.7 (with the lowest being the SAAB 105OE and SK60B).
