GM’s are also just players, and I’m discussing here as a player. So far have not seen anything that is relevant to me a GM. (Except the TK aspect - but that was handled automatically here anyway…). ;-)
And my opinion is not more valid than any other, only because of my GM tag. I’m often mistaken. Badly. = )
This or sniping 3 people (including high tab ones) with 3 bullpups. Per one sortie.
I guess people will keep eating this type of gameplay because of wibe or whatever other reason.
Do you realize how many times Sailors, pilots, and other forms of infantry have disobeyed orders and done something they probably were not meant to do, and were rewarded with medals for the action?
Cause the number is very high.
So while you are attempting to quote it, and while yes, the document states they are not necessarily needing to, many aircraft do not have the payload or firepower to execute certain missions of great importance, despite what the document states, which is written in acknowledgement that some pilots who disobey orders and risk being court-martialled are often able to execute a said mission.
However, in the case of in-game, the B-52 and similar aircraft cannot effectively execute said mission due to everyone on the ground operating as a target with their sole intention to rack up kills, ignoring the fact that they are screwing their teammates over and losing the battle. This is sadly due to map design, mechanics, and other issues, and instead of these goals being fixed or resolved.
The person who committed accidental teamkilling is being punished cause some dumb player was driving when the bombs landed. Due to a lack of situational awareness of a big blue name tag that states “B-52”.
vibing is perfectly fine reason to play something in certain way, but there are cases where you have to accept that the thing just sucks and its gameplay has no way of salvaging itself.
@SinisterIsRandom still waiting for you to explain to me how this makes any meaningful difference and is actually worth the SP cost as well as time invested.
So if I am in a tank, fight the enemy, push him towars his spawn, and some over-enthusistic bomber jock 3 km up decides to rain fifty 500-pounders more or less blindly over the whole battlefield, somehow I am at fault?!?
What am I supposed to do, when I see that Big Blue Buff high up? Where should I go, what should I do?!? Stay put? Retreat?
Close Air Support is for a big part also close air support so the pilot sees where the Blues and the Reds are on the ground, situational awareness indeed being the crucial aspect here to prevent friendly fire!
I as the pilot have to be fully aware of where I drop my bombs, and what results this may have - and have to take into account Blue positions and movement. Dropped from 3000m up and 5, 6 km away, my bombs will need about half a minute to get to the ground, so I will have to take into account that for that half minute the Blue tanks may also move right into the drop zone (which the tanks have no clue where it is…)
But yeah, dumb tanker…
That said, one can of course also make a B-52 work in ground battles, but that needs special care and situational awarenesss, precision and accuracy, and probably quite a few approaches, unless one really gets a great situation with massed enemies in a position with no friendlies too close.
Did you blindly continue driving in the Bombers’ line of sight? Unlike a bomber, the tank can drive out of the effective damage range of the bomber.
Also, a 500-pounder is roughly 250 kilos(slightly weaker).
So it’s still the tank’s fault; they saw the bomber approaching, and they didn’t attempt to drive out of the way of a straight line it was dropping bombs within.
He’s 3 km up and 6 km away when he drops: How on earth should I know where he drops, unless he tells me exactly? Already small course deviations and changes in acceleration will result in large deviations in the impact point - or in this case better impact area.
Of course the Buff can get lower, reducing the time til impact, increase accuracy and precision, but in turn reduce his own survivability massively.
Tank fault for trying to be actually useful for team and being focused on tasks instead of looking 180 deg back and up to try and predict where bomber crosshair will be passing?
And guy who is observing battlefield and has markers of his teammates but still decides to drop bombs is innocent?
You know it’s a B-52 or Tu-95.
So basic guessing->Since its going to have a poor turn rate. You can safely assume the bombs will be within a straight line, as most will.
Because it’s a straight line at best, you can drive to the right or the left to ensure safety. It is not rocket science.
Unfortunately we currently lack the communication tools in game to coordinate that kind of thing effectively, I mentioned earlier that impact markers like what are used in nuclear escalation for the nuke blast zones would be nice to have, but currently employing a strategic strike on the tactical battlefields we have in game comes with a large number of risks.
That’s not to say I would not like to see expanded game modes with strategic objectives like carpet bombing the enemy airfield so they cannot spawn planes, but that’s not what we currently have.
In terms of this statement, it takes merely 1 second to look up or press Tab and see the word B-52. To be aware that it is in the sky.
Looking up, preferably for a second or so, would not affect your ability to fight and would lower the risk of being accidentally bombed by your ally who cannot steer bombs once they are dropped.
Precisely, this is why when I fly strategic bombers in GRB, I make sure those on the ground, whether they can speak English or not, are aware to stay the hell away from where I drop.
Via Request Designation to attack or whatever the direct quote is.
I will ping,
Respond with Affirm, type in chat, 30 seconds, 15 seconds, 10 seconds, and then BOMBS/boom AWAY.
Surprisingly, even if you don’t speak English, people still understand it and steer out of the proximity. But then I have patience for it. Basically, play around with your limitations, and you can manage to nail the point across in-game.
