Skillbased Matchmaking

Instead of MM changes, I would like to get the anti cheat system extended to all Arcade and Realistic BRs. I’m very curious to find out what my playing experience will be (maybe nothing will change, maybe yes)…

so, very on brand for the forum and playerbase!

edit: nice flag dude, too bad it’s not justified

yea but there are good ideas floating around too sometimes

SBMM isn’t applicable for War Thunder because there are far too many variables that impact player ability. The differences in vehicle performances amongst the BR spread alone is the highest variable that affects the applicability of SBMM.

With SBMM this differences would be visible more meaning that game could be better balanced.

Sbmm always ruins games.

Skill? What skill? The vast majority of players are so stupid it’s a wonder their lungs know how to breathe. I’ve never seen a game where so many of your teammates are guaranteed to have IQs in the 80s. Either that or they’re younger than 18 in which case wtf are they doing here? Surely they have homework. Lert’s not forget the cheaters cause oh boy, there’s a lot of them. Gaijin “devs” lack the skill needed to deal with them.

It would have already been ruined by SBMM existing so any further improvements are null

Any example to back up your claim?

So…you should be getting tons of kills against the low IQ enemies, since players on both sides are basically the same…no? Should be an easy game then…

Call of duty

SBMM would be bad for WT

They simply need to make the br cap for ground 13.0, and move a bunch of vehicles up to decompress the ground vehicles.

IQ is not related to age 😉

Two things:

  1. Kills vs rookies are basically worthless - killing experienced opponents on the same or better level using similar or technically seen superior vehicles makes fights interesting.
  2. If your team manages to die without inflicting serious damage to the other team you fight very fast 1 vs all. So the share of rookies in both teams is imho the main deciding factor in most battles.

So the fellow player might mix up IQ and applicable experience but his general view on things seems to be correct. Superior skills based on experience is useless if you are outnumbered like hell.

Bad example about SBMM.

Name a singular SBMM released 20 years ago with a playerbase, and ideally non-toxic.
No one can because the average successful SBMM lifespan is 3 years.

The first dev who make a game with SBMM is commiting his “Game Over” for his game before release from beta. SBMM is indeed very short living in games.

I liked your first edit more…
Pretty much. SBMM is a server-intensive task that offers a feeling of being better than others; A mix of “oooo number go up” and ego.
Neither are necessarily what you want if your goal is to have a game last for decades.
A decades long game needs low server intensity, and match making that does not embolden ego.

Welcome to capitalism comrade! This story of a new player buying a top-tier vehicle, losing, and leaving the match (harming the team) isn’t exclusive to Warthunder. Now, regarding this match balance system, it could be improved through vehicles only with the help of the community, as we’ve been doing here for years. In my opinion. Limiting the formation of matches by the player’s skill will compromise the delay in finding the match, now imagine this in naval battles which are already quite difficult within normal limits.

I never said it was. I touched on age because you know, impatience and actions not thought through enough and all that.

Yep, 5v1 on a capture point because everybody lemminged to another cap point (or just … randomly) while you’re the only one that thought there are more than 1 cap points in this match seems very doable.

EDIT:
This was all achieved with a Falcon (first 7 kills) then 2x of the Vickers Mk11. The opposite team seems normal. My team was made up of idiots. Only 5 other players even tried. The rest just gave up like the cowards they are. We would have won if they just bought me enough time to drop the nuke. The match was 7:40 minutes long.
