Idk about 20 years ones (gaming was less available for average person and all we had back then was doom 3, hl 2, unreal tournament 2004 and cs source) but there are cs:go, dota 2, league of legends - they all are more than 10 years old, have sbmm and huge playerbase (war thunder isnt even close to first 2).
Im wondering what toxicity has to do with sbmm, toxicity is a problem for vast array of games with online interactions, including war thunder. Even games that dont have any competitive part like dont starve together still suffer from toxicity.
My impression is that the more uptiered I get, the worse my opponents (and teammates) are. The more downteired I get, the better the opponents (and teammates) are. I usually lose uptiers but get a lot of kills/caps, win downtiers but don’t get many kills/caps.
I cannot be convinced that SBMM does not exist. It puts bad players on good players teams, ruins my games. Then I go watch some random twitch streamer, who is terrible and does nothing and wins 60% of the matches they play. Im telling you its real. I got to get 10+ kills shoot down all planes, and respawn 3-4 times just to have a chance at the W. These fn out here with 1 kill winning, couldnt be me bruh I go 0-2 is 100% lost.
You should tried teamup with people guild members or experience players because team up with random players result are always around 60% lost and 40% win.
I win about 70-80% solo, about 95% squadded. The solo games I find are more enjoyable sometimes due to me being able to take all the farm. I play a lot of matches solo just to farm lots of high kill games. Its just the losses are brutal since you know if you had 1 competent player besides yourself you would win.
Playing in random battles with random teams will get you close to 50%…UNLESS you get into an environment (game mode, BR, server and time of day) where there are lots of teams.
If no big team dominates the game you will win about half of them…no matter what…simply because the odds of being on the better team are close to 50%.
The better you are the better the chances of yours being the better team…but on a 16vs16 game this is very very rare. The player above seems to be one of the exceptions :) as you have to be good enough to tilt the game by yourself…
I do agree (as stated in multiple posts) but a lot of players lack the experience or general awareness to see the obvious:
That the team composition (player skill distribution in both teams) and nation allocation in the MM is (at least at peak times) no coincidence.
To be fair: You need to play a lot of matches at the same BR and in the same vehicle to become aware of this.
Another issue (what is not often mentioned) is that certain other parameters might also be used to steer player success.
If you play prop Air RB you will often be confronted with RNG effects which occur during win-streaks or if you have played a lot of matches without dying:
You fly casually above the battlefield and dang you get killed by a random AA shell from midfield AA.
Or you score 12 (!) hits on an enemy fighter with 0.50 cal API-T without starting a fire or getting a kill (despite you long term observation shows that on average 2 hits kill an enemy).
Or you kill an ai strike aircraft from the gunner deadzone and you get one-shot by the gunner.
SOMETHING needs to be done about the matchmaking in this game. Whether it be SBBMM or something else. It’s nothing but endless frustration when you get dealt teams of either clueless players or ODLs. You can be doing really well personally, only to find within 3 minutes of the match starting you’re surrounded by a dozen or more enemy tanks with absolutely zero support. The rest of the team has either been wiped out or left after one spawn. I realise the ODL is a separate issue, but I firmly believe the one-sidedness of the vast majority of matches is what leads to a lot of ODL. I almost never used to ODL, but when you find yourself outnumbered 4 to one or more, and your team does nothing but hide at the spawn (if they even spawn in), what is the point in continuing. Of the matches I’ve played today, roughly 80% resulted in our team getting utterly smashed. Even in a game where I had 16 kills, we barely won. This game COULD have so much more to offer. At the moment, evenly matched and challenging battles, is by FAR in the minority. It’s either getting smashed, or the opposition get smashed. I could be wrong, but I get the impression that quite a few of the people who defend the status quo are just happy to keep wiping out clueless newbs to pad their stats. By the way, my comments refer mainly to AGB.
Not saying that’s the only solution, but where’s the fun in playing a game that you have zero chance of winning, simply because the bulk of your team are mental midgets, while the opposition team have a reasonable balance of skills?
Agreed, but that just adds to the one-sidedness of the matches. When one side is full of newbs more or less, and your team includes your squad which has a major advantage as far as communication (especially using discord or the like), the match is even MORE skewed. There’s not much fun in steamrolling teams due to having that sort of advantage either. You might as well go outside and pull the wings off flies. I’d rather an even match anyday.
100% agree. It seems a large percentage of players are no longer here to actually to battle to win. Between those grinding a tech tree to get to top tier and those just doing Battlepass daily and special tasks, everyone has their own agenda. That was somewhat the case years ago, but you could generally find team mates who would try to help repair when you get damaged, or attack an enemy tank that is targeting your crippled tank, etc. You’d have people communicate in chat or point out enemy positions on the map. NOW? Almost never. Players will drive straight past your crippled tank UNLESS they happen to have a Help With Repairing task to do. They’ll hide like bitches behind a rock or building rather than take a risk shooting the enemy that’s finishing off your crippled tank. Even when your team might outnumber that enemy tank 3 to 1. I read somewhere earlier a guy saying how he’s seeing team mates spawn tanks (non-SPAA) and just sit at the spawn the entire match. I’ve seen the same and often 2 or more players doing it. They’re just trying to last the whole match because there seems to be more rewards for that than taking chances on dying. They contribute ZERO and just mean the match is down to 12 or 13 players on your team versus 15 on the opposition. Sigh…
BTW… Not saying there’s an issue with people having their own agendas, but it’s almost like you need separate servers for those who are looking to play to battle team on team and one for those doing “other stuff”…
