I have not found any of those players. From my perspective players leave sessions for two reasons:
I’ll leave if my team is not communicating very much, and/or most of the lobby is just bombing and doing nothing.
I’m not going to waste my team in a boring lobby in an expensive plane.
Whatever floats your boat.
However, not all PvP players leave those sessions and look for another session where they can properly fight. Actually, they do quite opposite.
Currently I leave when I get 5 kills (as I have a wager going and 5 is all I need to get).
I do wish the VoIP in this game was set up differently. The way it is makes it really easy to just do your own thing without interacting with the team at all.
it was it years ago and it was hell for a non-farmer player, who came to fly and have fun.
Usualy flies a fighter. Have 1 death to 5 kills. He dies second time and quits.
Yes but doing it in empty lobbies or purposely rigging games so that the majority of players are maximizing their efficiency is what causes Gaijin to nerf the income. The de-facto expectation is that most people in sim are not interested in PvP at all and the economy reflects that.
That just kind of means they have to make PvP more enticing to do (higher rewarding, for example). But the problem with that is that eventually you might end up with just deathmatch lobbies that will put de-emphasis on bombers and attackers if it goes too far.
Give me the Hell - as long as that means there’s rooms to join in the first place.
I really don’t see why it’s so hard to just kill botters/farmers? (and report ones actually breaking TOS).
I’d certainly prefer to at least get the points (as the farmers are still present and I’m just here to have fun - however I also have been saving up my SL to play Top Tier - I have about 30 million now so I should have at least 3 games.
Researching and buying all nation aircraft in a couple of days, is it okay?
I remember you could get 1.5 millions SL and 100k RP for one battle without even exploiting.
In my opinion, they should change the gameplay.
I can’t play the Su-25SM3 when I have to fight against F-14s and F-16s, especially when there aren’t enough players on my team to protect me from the enemy.
Assault planes deserve separate regime. It would be great to have missions with interesting scenario to kill ground units. There are a lot of ways how to create challenges.
For example, try to play my mission on Su-25SM3/Su-27 planes.
Some players experience troubles with killing ground units.
I don’t care what other people do but I don’t think you could research an entire tech tree in a day.
1.5 Million in SL and 100K RP for 3 Hours of play isn’t too bad, no.
Nobody cared until abusers started to swarm in EC.
For hour, maybe a little longer.
1 hour is even better… at least people were playing.
it’s better than the deserted island sim is now.
And why are most people not interested in PvP? Right, because it is way too expensive to die…
In a mid Tier plane it costs u about 13 to 15k SL. So why should someone look for PvP? To lose more SL he can get back? Even if he tries to get better in PvP, he would try to avoid PvP coz of the bad reward system.
If I’m i a lobby full of way too op planes. Maybe even teamed up, and I see no chance to hold against them, I leave.
This is how u get bomber only lobbies. My team has no fighters anymore, the enemy fighters have no good battles against other fighters anymore. So they leave, too…
And this is how you ruin a good game mode.
I do not think this is the only reason.
In sim the gap between players’ skills is much higher than in RB regime.
You should give player really high reward to make him play as someone else’s prey.
Most people in sim are not playing PvE only because they are bad at PvP and all of the good PvP players forced them to switch to PvE. Most lobbies that are almost pure PvE-only are created more or less explicitly for that purpose and are set up in such a way to discourage PvP. This is why you get things like 2v2 / 4v4 games on the 128km maps in props. This is why there are always tons of 10.3 - 11.7 games where players are just farming bomb points and AI.
The ability to control the matches that you play and leave if you start to not like the outcome is one of Sims biggest appeals…but it’s also the part that makes Sim the easiest mode to exploit.
These are the monthy win rate statistics for Air Sim that are pulled from Statshark. Do you notice anything odd here? Look at the huge chunk of players that are winning 60+% of their games. This is the only game mode that you can play where the majority of players win far more than they lose. And the ability to choose to always be on the winning side means that the majority of players are receiving SL bonus for winning the game.
This is the Air RB win rate statistics. This is a pretty normal win rate distribution amongst any of the other game modes where the vast majority of players hover around 50% win rate and the further you get away from 50%…the more of an outlier you are.
Now that by itself doesn’t really prove anything. Thankfully we can look at other statistics from the game mode to get a more accurate idea of how players actually play the game modes.
Here are the average kills per spawn of players in Air Sim battles. Here we can see the the largest chunk of the player base averages from 0 - .2 player kills per spawn and that it is basically a steady decrease the higher in average player kills.
Compare this with Air Rb and you can see that a much more normal distribution with the median and average number of kills being around .6 - .7 player kills per spawn.
What these two statistics show is that when taken at scale…that Air Sim EC is primarily played as a PvE mode by the majority of its participants.
Now this really shouldn’t be surprising to anyone that knows anything or that actually pays attention to the overall War Thunder community. Quick question…what kind of Simulator Battles content is the most popular on YouTube? Is it top tier combat? Is it guides on how to get better at the game? Is it montages?
Nope…it’s videos on how to use the game mode as a grinding mechanic.
This video has 258k views and is just telling players to go out and bomb a point for 600 points and then AFK on the runway. This is even with the current economy/rewards system that we are all complaining about. And just to put things in perspective…258k views is more successful than any video that DEFYN or practically any major Air RB EC has put out in the past 6 months.
Here is another one that is only a month old and has 94k views…and it’s basically an advertisement for how to use Air SB as a grinding mechanism with the AV-8B NA. This video is why if you play that 11.7 tier of the game that you will see Harriers bombing airfields now.
Okay…so maybe the sim exploitation rabbit hole only stops at PvE players exploiting the system and the game is simply bad because they outnumber us “real” players? And the only thing Gaijin needs to do is increase rewards for PvP activities and limit those for PvE activities?
Well I have bad news for you…because the lobby system also allows you to exploit that…and people already do it without any real incentive. In order to prove that we are going to have to do a little bit of digging.
And for that we are going to have to return to Statshark.net and use the player leaderboard feature and then sort by average player kills per battle…because one would think that finding whoever has the highest average kills per sortie would at least give us an indication of who the best PvP oriented players in the game are…and maybe we can learn something about what they are doing…and how they are enjoying the game.
These are the 3 most successful PvP players in the game. My first question to you would be…have you ever seen them in a game? I know for a fact that I have not…and I pretty routinely click through every lobby just to see who is playing and if there is anyone I recognize.
This is the vehicle list for the highest rated player. Notice anything odd about the F-86 Sabre stats?
He has 1560 kills in 23 games. This works out to on average 67 player kills per game.
This is the second guy. He must be the worlds best bomber pilot with 150+ kills per game on average in the Fw-200…
And let’s look at the third guy…wow 679 kills in the German P-47D in 3 games. That is an average of 226 kills per game…this guy must be one of the best War Thunder players ever! Now I hope that I am not laying the sarcasm on a little bit too thick…actually researching this stuff is kind of depressing. These 3 players are not cracked PvP gods.
Have you ever seen anyone get 226 kills in a game? I personally have never seen anyone get above around 50-60 and that was only at top tier. So what is actually going on here? Well…once again…it’s exploiting. I have personally seen it done and this is what it looks like.
Every one of the planes in this picture is player controlled. The H8K accounts all spawn at the same time at the same airfield…and then the player controlled aircraft flies near them and shoots at them with gunners. He doesn’t even shoot them down, he just puts damage on them, and then the will all J-out at the same time. This means that this player has a perpetually respawning and defenseless bomber swarm that counts towards his Air kills and his player kills.
This is how you end up with stat lines like this.
And exploitations like this are not exactly uncommon. We can go back to Statshark and look at the accounts that have played the most simulator battles over the past month.
These are the Top 10 accounts for the most played Sim games. Do you care to guess what the vast majority of them have in common? Their most played planes are Rank I and they have no kills in them. What does this actually mean though? Well it means that most of these accounts are being used as placeholders for the purpose of creating and perpetuating PvE and rigged lobbies.
The way that these work is that they will put a high ranked premium plane in their lineup…and then they will spawn the biplane and just have it fly around and do nothing. It’s entire purpose is so that the lobby has enough active players to start and that the lobby will not end because there are no active players on the enemy team.
Good post
I agree and disagree with you.
Many players are looking for PvE when they play on assault planes, which are almost useless against fighter planes.
If sim could provide interesting gameplay even for not good players, sim regime would be much more popular (regarding fighter planes).
