Scout drones need a nerf!

in a game about real tanks and aircrafts? yeah.

t-6-1 problem solved
grafik

every nation has an early spawn spaa, ahead/proxy or a tank that can track the drone and a 50cal to down it with

But… Pre-spawning in an SPAA, just in-case someone deploys a drone (and it really isnt that common), might result in you sat AFK for a while with nothing to do. Likewise at the lower end, you might not have an SPAA that can effectively deal with it. For example, Britain, has nothing but the Skink for 7.3/7.7, which is not ideal for taking them out beyond 1km. If that . Even at higher BRs, more than a few SPAAs cant actually deal with them easily due to issues, such as Stingers being useless against them, if they are too close, the missile will miss, too far away and they wont lock on. Stormer HVM cant hit them under any circumstance, etc etc. Many of the top tier multi-vehicle SAMs are also useless vs them due to min ranges exceeding the distance to the drones by several km.

With how effectively drones can evade, even having a radar-guided SPAAG can make hitting drones basically impossible beyond point-blank range. Tried many a time with the Marksman or Stormer AD and not been able to hit them.

Whilst HE-VT or HE-TF are reasonably common at higher BRs, they are not necessarily down towards the lower end of BRs where drones can be spawned, or even vehicles that can see drones in an uptier.

AHEAD… Might just be a lack of practice, but I find hitting drones with it a total pain in the butt. Even with target tracking.

Likewise, is the same with an MBT that can lock onto a aircraft, Reasonably common at higher BRs, but I dont think exist on anything that low, Im struggling to think of any below 11.3? meaning you are manually aiming an MG at the target, and not everyone even has 50 cals, 7.62mm is far more common CIWS for MBTs, if they have anything more than just a coaxial.

So drones need adjustments, they are problematic threat to deal with unless you, or someone else on your team happens to be in something that can deal with them.

Both UK and France can see drones with their 7.7 lineups, both lack such vehicles.

Doesnt become common on IFVs until what, 10.3+? And even then there are IFVs at that BR range that dont have such ammo.

There are top tier tanks without this feature, let alone at BRs below top tier. Not to mention withiut proxy fuze youre still relying on direct hit.

Not every nation gets .50cal, and even if they do, once again, they require direct hit.

Also funny you decide to show how easily can people deal with drones by showing clip of tank having BOTH air track and proxy fuze ammo. Do this again woth centurion and then we can talk.

all of these things are correct, but theres 16 teammates

Not every vehicle you spawn needs to be able to deal with everything the enemy can spawn at any second. Drones start at 8.3 a br filled with autocannons and radar spaa that is constantly abused as tank hunters. And at 9.3 starts the br of proxy fuse auto. You also have access to big proxy in pretty much every tree trough artillery.
Centurions are all, except for the israeli ones, below brs of tanks with drones. Expecting you to be able to take them on fairly is the same as a xm 800 driving into a soviet heavy which it cant damage. Or you in a leopard vs a 8km hellfire at 10.3. There are unfair matchups everywhere, where youre completely useless in your current tank.

Shoot at drones with mgs or kill the carrier is alot more doable than the other matchups

Exactly, sometimes I’ll be playing 7.7 Germany and bring out the PzH2000 with proxy if I see a drone. Usually killing it. Drones do need a nerf but they aren’t just insanely broke like some other vehicles or mechanics

sure, but that is like adding operator to siege who cant shoot drones, saying its fine since there are 4 other people on your team who can. At some point, you simply dont have enough team mates to rely on.

And, unlike aircraft, only constrain drone has is “dont be shot down”. It doesnt run out of fuel or batter, it can autonomously hover, it doesnt have to rearm.

these still require direct hit, IFVs to my knowledge donthave air track yet and SPAAGs such as gepards still have issue with gun convergence on top of direct hit issues.

York and the chinese PGZ as far as i know. So again we run into issue of “not every nation gets counter”.

SPHs are less than optimal choice for fast scout drone hunting due to terrbile gun handling.

Except 7.7 can see drones in full uptier.

issue is there is zero trade off for having recon drone active. literally no trade off, whereas enemy team has to dedicate resources to take it down.

“Yes, a hit!” drone continues flying

shooting the carrier sounds nice and dandy until hes behind 5 other tanks.

You can bomb him with CAS, you can flank around.

You dont need to have a trade off. Theres no tradeoff to having a laser rangefinder, or apfsds. Drones are part of the game and the kit that is given to light tanks to support their team. The light tank is the trade off as its easily killed when spotted. Its also not unlikely your team also gets a drone so the advantage you see is on both sides. The issue that teammates might not have scout drones in their lineup are a bigger one if they dont spawn them or they are shot down but thats not the scout drones fault but bad lineup design by teammates.

Which is the same as a tank getting hit and you reload and hit it again. I know that drones can be an issue with how many mg hits they tank but its not impossible to down them.

Meaning again you have a full team to rely on to down them or the sph with proxy in your lineup.

If a drone hovers around your tank it cant spot anything anyway, is easier to shoot down with mg and requires constant attention by the user of the drone meaning they have 1 active player at the moment.

York, PGZ, m1926, Begleit (9.7), Shturm(8.7) guided proxy missile, wz 305, vcc 80/60

All these + all the artillery which sets at 8.0 and below with proxy + rare tanks that get he vt like the wma and ztz 88. So yes every single nation has the capability to down drones. Some better than others. But Spaa while not reliable is also everywhere.

Do i see an issue with drones at 9.3-8.3? Yes there arent enough counters that are readily available but above that everyone can easily deal with them if they want to. And below they are a nuisance but can still be downed by everyone.

7.3* Warrior Milan at least has them at 8.3

m-41d, mars, amx13 hot aswell

that is not aviable until later in game unless i cap rush. not to mention possible AA coverage.

some maps simply dont allow flanking all the way to drone operator position without massively overextending your position.

except you still need to risk your vehicle to get use of LRF or APFSDS. You can safely pop drone on spawn and if you lose it no biggie, just replenish it on cap.

light tank being easy to kill means nothing if it can operate drone from absolute safety.

advantange without proper counterplay being on both teams does not mean said advantage is balanced.

notice i never said drones are impossible to shoot down. im saying hitting them is not necessarily enough to reliably shoot them down , especially given how wonky their damage models can be.

That analogy doesnt really address that.

If I hit a tank and dont kill it, I can reload and hit it again because the tank is still sitting there as a relatively large and predictable target.

Unlike with drone, especially one operating at a significant distance, simply getting a hit in the first place can already be the difficult part.

youre once again bringing up the fact that I have teammates, but that doesnt actually address my point.

Yes, WT is a team game and I dont expect every vehicle to have an effective counter to everything. But “your teammates can deal with it” is not the same thing as having a practical counter available.

There can absolutely be situations where I cannot rely on my teammates to deal with a drone. They might be dead, they might not have an SPAA, they might be out of position, they might not notice it, or they might simply be unable to hit it effectively.

But thats not really what I argued.

I said that not every nation has a vehicle with proximity ammunition at 9.3. Listing vehicles from different nations at different BRs does not disprove that.

ill give you VCC 80/60, forgot this thing is 9.3 and has proxy ammo.

“the nation has some theoretical capability of shooting down a drone somewhere in its tech tree” isnt the same argument as “the player has a practical counter available in the situation were discussing.”

If I have to bring an 8.0 artillery vehicle into a 9.3 lineup because it happens to have proxy ammunition, thats not really a meaningful argument for the availability of a 9.3 counter. Likewise, pointing to rare exceptions like WMA or ZTZ 88 does not establish that every nation has the same capability.

my 7.7 french lineup just staring at drone hovering at 2km wondering how im gonna down that.

My biggest issue is drone survivability, having my 155mm proxy rounds go off right next to a recon drone and do nothing is quite absurd,

i love when my stingers miss the 30mph target and my guns cant damage them consistently enough to the point that im mag dumping into them more than i have to for a manned aircraft

I’d also love for them to give us the possibility to shoot spikes at them, I used to use spikes to shoot down enemy drones but now I’m stuck trying to lead my slow firing 30mm gun at a drone a km away with no irst

youre getting your 155mm HE to proxy on them? I honestly believed that they are too small to trigger it.

(this may be skill issue, im still waiting on L15 with proxy as that things fuse is 10m radius instead of a measly 3m)

Yeah, they proxy, good friggen luck doing damage tho

I think ill stick to my stormer ADs 25mm then

Not all nations have this luxury, and first spawning an AA because your MBT can’t shoot down a drone operator with legal wall hacks is plain dumb. Drones of both kinds were a mistake.

If im first spawning an AA its because its a map i hate, so ill focus on downing drones and cas before getting into cas myself and taking my fustration from playing flat bowl with three shooting lanes #19389 out on the closest russian tank ot T58 my TV bomb can spot

Eh… That thing has such stupid spread that if its further than about 800m away, I find every round misses. Then good luck hitting it with a Stinger because the target is either too far away, or too close 99.99% of the time.

Rapier or Ajax is the only reliable method for taking them down at or around that BR imo for Britain.

(god damn I want LMMs on the HVM)
