I don’t think so especially with Mirage 2000-5F now sitting at 14.0, SAAF Gripen still the best Gripen as long there’s still no Gripen E, and also no newer missiles. Yes, R-Darter have very short range, but its HOBS Capabilities making it much-much better than R-77, because R-77 is slow, while R-Darter is MICA Jr. Even MiGan Fox-3 acknowledge the SAAF Gripen is the best Gripen simply because of R-Darter.
And especially you got free kills against F-16A that don’t have IRCCM Missiles, also Su-30MK2 Premium Clowns.
It surprises me how people continue to call the Darter bad for the Gripen when its the best missile for the playstyle of the Gripen in the current air RB environment. It either shows just how many people have no idea how to fly their aircraft or refuse to adapt to the jets playstyle
I have been saying the SAAF Gripen is the best for a very long time because of the Darters agility at close to mid range engagements which the Gripen exceeds at imo.
It is the most unique and strong Gripen bar none.

Yes probably now that is very much the case. I remember getting stomped by teams of F-15 MSIP with 8 120s and if you tried to fly low…well the Mirage and MICA murdered you!
I like the Darter close range and the HMD made the Gripen SA fun to fly
Honestly it could be really strong if it gets to be the lowest BR IRIS-T slinger Gripen

With how many F-15C Golden Eagle now, you could easily force the enemy to gets closer to you. And most player don’t have strong patient. I once having late game 1v2 F-15C Golden Eagle, all I do is forcing them to close to me, and then sling R-Darter when come closer. The greatest enemy of SAAF Gripen is only Rafale and Typhoon, but even these 2 aircraft are also have the most impatient player, most people don’t know how potent R-Darter in close range.

I use the basic Swed Gripen as a mid alt to hunt high alt players that have started closing in to the center off the map. I sneak up until about 10km since aim 120 can be defeated to easily within 7km. Not the greatest experience but it works.
Honestly now that sweden has the F16AM even with 45 CM’s id rather play that over the Gripen, just prefer the 6x AIM-120 to the Gripen personally.

I’m currently also grinding out Swedish Air TT, just so I can taste Gripen E. I love Gripen due to its nimble size compared to other Eurocanards. Giving Gripen E a MAW would make it the best defensive fighter.

Honestly no reason, just grind Japan and get the F2, gaijin will probably give them the Thai Gripen E, or even Italy since they scream they need the Brazilian Gripen E lol.
Sweden isn’t worth it unless you’re waiting for a Danish F16 like i am lol.

Well, does aircraft waiting in production can be counted as “Be In Service” according to War Thunder? Because from what I read, Gripen E for Thailand is very late to arrive to Thailand, iirc, its first batch only to come in 2030. Compared to Indonesian Rafale, I think Japan would have Indonesian Rafale faster than Thailand Gripen E, assuming Gaijin can only introduce an aircraft that are confirmed in services, not just in production.

Gaijin may decide that ordered is good enough. We have already seen a few prototpye vehicles like the CR3 be added.
Well, CR3 TD is real tho? Compared to Thailand Gripen E, it’s still not in service yet, and Thailand could break the deal anytime if they feel don’t like it. I think that’s why it’s still a long way for Gripen E in Japan, unlike Indonesian Rafale which will come around February or March 2026.
Eh, CR3 and Thai Gripen Es are kinda different situations.
CR3 TD was developed directly for the UK.
Thai Gripen Es are on order with no deliveries made
