There is no way Gaijin will TO mode.
With that attitude surely.
People were talking same things before road-map was propsed.
Data so far is kinda interesting. Gotta be taken with a generous pinch of salt because each and every question can be answered vastly differently depending on gamemode, br, nation, team comp and map, but still useful data if you bare that in mind.
I think the really interesting part is the other poll questions. There definetly interest in seeing some changes to CAS, maybe nerfs, but a majority of the voters thinks it adds to the gameplay but the big part is that CAS needs some SP refinements and SPAA needs some buffs. Combine with some of hte other suggestions on here and I think a middle ground could be found where both sides of aisle are happy. Shall be interesting to see how the data refines with more polls
So, so far, I’d say that whilst there is an interest in a TO gamemode. It is not a landslide currently and I do wonder how many voted for it because of the current state of CAS balance, and if that was fixed, if they’d vote differently
I do not believe that. Where is that ridiculous statement coming from?
It comes from you.
"No you are not.
You only have indirect control. You do not aim at all, you tell the instructor where to aim and it aims. Otherwise you would control turret rotation speeds yourself… you don’t.
This is a delusion nothing more."
They just need to jack up the rewards for SPAA air kills and nerf ground kills. Right now SPAAs might as well be light tanks
Looks at Falcon
For some SPAA, thats pretty much the only thing its good for :P
Wait you think that means i think that players talk with little men inside the virtual tanks?
You are mental.
That the instructor works by interpreting your cursor and then making the actual inputs isn’t a secret btw. It’s also not talking to little men.
https://wiki.warthunder.com/index.php?title=Instructor/How_the_instructor_works
If you are strawmenning that hard, you seem to be really desperate.
And yes, thinking that you are controlling the tank is delusional still.
"In this article we’re going to examine the most important, and at the same time most unnoticed ‘helper’ for any player in almost any mode in War Thunder – the Instructor. The Instructor is a set of special programs that perform one very important function. They accept the control commands that the player sends to the game (roughly speaking, mouse movements and key presses) and transform them into forces on the control devices of the specific model of game vehicle that the player is using – an aircraft or a ground vehicle.
Why is the Instructor necessary? Why can’t the player control the vehicle in game directly, without the Instructor, you ask? "
Thus excerpt is directly from the article. It states outright that you do not have direct control with the instructor active. Which is exactly what i stated. Thinking otherwise is delusional.
Half of the top-tier tank battle win rates in the US can be attributed to CAS. Similarly, half of the top-tier tank battle win rates in RU are due to the heli.
Hello,
Here is my point of view and arguments about CAS (well, my nickname speak for me).
I have 1500+ missions at the moment, my higher BR is 9.3 right now, and playing only realistic battles (soon simulation mode probably).
My personal feeling about CAS is that I hate it very intensely, for the following reasons.
With my level (not noob but far from being export/pro), I already struggle to make balanced games (I mean having at least one capture/kill for one death). It requires already an intense concentration to keep a good situation awerness and be effective. And when you manage to finally make something good, there is 75% of chances that your hard work will get instantly stopped and wasted by a bomb or a missile coming from nowhere.
This game also has the particularity of being very frustrating sometimes (dying over and over again, battles where you are BR -1.0, etc…). In this moments, CAS is just too much. It can drive you mad for legitimate reasons.
I understand some players enjoy the combined tank/CAS battle mod. But there should be a tank battle mod only for those who try to enjoy the game without the CAS (that waste every single games).
I will say this, it took me well over 100 hours to learn the audible cues of CAS and be comfortable in my universal playstyle to feel safe from CAS most of the time.
You seem to be in the camp of wanting to vibe the way you want to, and that’s cool.
Not gonna lie now i love stomping Russian team with US CAS most of time it horde of them
Sorry to get in this late, been traveling for a month and away from the game.
My opinions about the current state of CAS and SPAA in this game are pretty well known already.
Game favors flyers, always has and always will.
It favorising Planes because of how shorts are maps,… tanks are located on some several known spot,…
They’re then easy to target → then to kill.
Make Ground 5 times the current size, switch to TDM mode, and it will make the game better.
No thx, it’s already a pain to reach shooting spots with heavy tanks, no need to increase the already unfun experience of driving for 5 minutes and then getting killed.
Then keep easily get killed by CAS,… and Let CAS be (no more complaint)
But tbh we already need 3 times bigger maps for High Tier (9.3+)
Yes for high tiers, but not WW2 stuff where it takes ages to reach a cap point.
First, thanks for you effort putting up this poll.
But CAS problems in Ground Arcade are probably very different from other game modes, particularly Ground RB.
I play Ground Arcade which is the most played game mode in this game and what I say below is regarding Ground Arcade only.
In my opinion the problem with CAS in Ground Arcade starts with the fact that it basically has no cost to spawn a plane/helicopter, you basically don’t need to move your tank and just let time pass by to end getting the chance to use it. It also doesn’t have a repair cost so what is the best way to make sure you don’t miss your target, just kamikaze on them and fire your rockets at last second or just keep firing your guns/cannons until you crash on it. It used to be worse cause you could actually kill tanks or detonate bombs just by crashing on them.
Second problem with CAS in Ground Arcade is that you don’t get to choose what planes you get, so you can have a slow and weak/bad plane while your enemies can get a very fast and OP one, or the opposite. It’s Gaijin that picks them for you, and Gaijin doesn’t know what balance means.
Another problem is where the game(Gaijin) spawns the planes relative to each other, it’s very different to spawn a CAS plane with enemy interceptors at 0.5km away or at 1.5km away, and it’s very different to spawn a slow CAS plane with enemy interceptors flying much faster than you. It’s also very different to spawn CAS plane behind enemy spawn and closer to the enemy or to spawn behind your own spawn and having to fly for a longer time to reach your targets since it gives interceptors more time to reach you.
Then you have markers, which is another problem for tanks. The main problem with markers was always that it shows the type of tank of every enemy player and as you get closer it even shows you which model. This way you can simply pick the open top or light armour targets which are more likely to be killed even with guns. Markers got changed along time, right now fighters cannot see enemy markers which I have to say helped open top and light armoured tanks from being killed by guns/cannons, and they also removed names from markers to avoid revenge kills, although they left the “skull” that tells you which enemy player just killed you. A much better solution for markers would simply keep all markers(after all it’s Arcade) and simply remove type of tank from it. This would solve marker main problem.
Spotting can also be a problem cause CAS can spot you across the map and tell the enemy where you are in the minimap, even if you never been spotted by any tank, this makes flanking much harder or simply impossible.
I could also add another problem that doesn’t affect all players, at least those using an headset for playing the game. Before, even using speakers/soundbar, you could hear bomb whistle as bombs were drop close to your location, this would give you enough warning to get the hell out of there but they change sounds and now it’s impossible to hear them since all other battle sounds seem to overlap it. Sure you can always look up and check if any bomber is dropping bombs on you but… this is Arcade, there is always action and there are always bombers flying above you, it’s very hard to be engaging enemy tanks while keep a look at the sky. And remember, enemy CAS doesn’t always come from the enemy side, it can come from your six or from the sides.
Anyway, I like planes and I started playing this game with planes. I know how to use them well, fighters, attackers or bombers. I would like to keep them in Ground Arcade cause I think they bring something different to the game mode, they are also needed as targets for SPAAs. In my opinion the problem is not the existence of CAS but the way it is implemented in the game cause as it is right now it gives an advantage to a certain player/team. And it’s Gaijin that decides who will get that advantage.
It’s an arcade simulation. The point of simulations is to provide a realistic portrayal of whatever it is simulating with War Thunder adding arcade controls for accessibility.
The map size doesn’t change situation for planes as they can just fly for a couple of seconds more while for tankers it means less fights.
