Research restrictions need to change

The guns they used have had its muzzle velocity and the he filler drastically reduced.
Maybe its historical, idk, but its definitely in a worse state than it initally came out in

yes it is.

Possibly, i didnt play it or pay attention to it untill recently. So idk what nerfs, buffs or otherwise it has received

I really don’t care enough to convince you otherwise.

I’d like to see the restrictions removed but my guess they are there to incentivize buying a premium vehicle

I feel the incentive is still there with the increased RP and SL and the ability to research everything below, that is still massively worth it + the reduced penalty also benefits premium vehicles equally.

Even If without penalties researching Leo 2a7 with PZ.4 Is near impossible because tier 2 rewards are not enough for researching high tiers

Impractical, sure.

Near impossible? No, not really.

Its good that rank limitations isnt the only mechanism at play.

Excessively impractical is the way it should be, and thats what the rank research restrictions provide.

Ok so let’s say you’re a Pz IV, Averge match gives you 1,500 RP at best with no boosters or premium and the match last around 10 minutes and you play non stop 24/7, And you want to clear rank 7 so you can start researching Leo 2a5.

You have to play non stop for 6 days or around 153 hours to unlock all rank 7 to start researching Leo 2a5

Yes?

Welcome to the top tier ground grind that allready exists when using the appropriate rank of vehicle.

Yeah, love that type of game design…

Yes.

Honestly there are few games that dont do progression this way. Mostly because its a good way to do it.

Few games that have the extremely slow and grindy progression this game does, mostly because it’s a bad way to do it.
Being dictated every second of the day what we’re supposed to be playing is obnoxious.

In War Thunder, the research system plays a crucial role in unlocking new vehicles and modifications. While some players find the restrictions frustrating, there are potential ways to improve this mechanic:

  1. Flexible Research Paths:
  • Allow players to choose between different research paths within a nation’s tech tree. (currently the only option to change from ground TT to Helicopter TT, this needs to include all TT in my opinion)

  • For example, instead of being forced to research a specific tank or plane, players could have options to research different vehicles within the same rank.

  1. Reduced Penalties for Researching Higher Ranks:
  • Currently, researching vehicles of higher ranks incurs penalties. Reducing these penalties would make progression smoother.

  • Alternatively, consider removing penalties altogether for researching vehicles within a certain rank range.

  1. Research Boosts or Bonuses:
  • Introduce temporary research boosts or bonuses during special events or weekends. (bring back x5 for each nation, per log in day - this will incentivise users in login in on a daily basis)

*Or, double RP weekends or increased RP for specific vehicle types (e.g., tanks, planes, or naval vessels).

  1. RP Conversion Options:
  • Allow players to convert convertible research points (earned through premium currency) into regular research points. (this is currently an option at 45RP per GE, but this should also be included in sales and event days to be 90RP or even 180 RP per GE, to incentivise increase usage)

  • This would provide an additional way to progress without relying solely on battles.

  1. Research Contracts or Tasks:
  • Implement contracts or tasks that players can complete to earn bonus research points.
  • These could be specific objectives related to a particular vehicle type or nation.
  1. Tier-Specific Research Points:
  • Introduce separate research points for vehicle modifications and vehicle unlocks.
  • This way, players can focus on researching modifications without affecting their vehicle progression.

That is a good way to do it.

You dont want progression to go fast when you are killing lvl 5 mobs in games to grind your lvl 90 character.

Its basically a staple of gaming industry.

Basically every level based RPG has done it in one way or another. Like Pokemon Fire Red did it, and so has every pokemon game since.

Pokemon has released a dozen games since Warthunder came out, people are not still playing a 2012 pokemon game trying to get their pokemon to the highest level, plus you can catch pokemon at higher levels and they do not all start at level 1 and you have exp share and other ways to speed up the process.

Pokemon fire red is a 2004 game. But thanks for pointing it out as i was actually reffering to Pokemon Red from 1996. I mixed up the names. There are likely older RPGs but i dont know or played those.

Edit: and i dont think i need to point it out, but the newest pokemon and RPG games use the same mechanics

Neither do vehicles you research. They start at a given rank and you use them to research other vehicles in that or adjacent ranks. Same way you grind your level 90 pokemon against lvl 90 adjecant creatures.

And so does Warthunder. Exact nature of the implementation varies, but the mechanic and what it encourages is a staple of the industry because its good game design

If you dont think so then fine, disagree with established ways of doing progression and make a game where grinding your lvl 90 character is equally fast wether the foe is lvl 1 or lvl 90 or lvl 200

But thanks for pointing it out

I didn’t, I’m referring to the point that there have been a dozen Pokemon games since 2012 which is around the time Warthunder launched.

Neither do vehicles you research.

The nations do, and the different trees do, that’s 10x air, 10x ground, 10x heli and however many x blue water and coastal.

If you dont think so then fine, disagree with established ways of doing progression.

It’s about how extreme the progression is, having to sink hundreds and hundreds of hours for a single branch of a single nation, adding hundreds of millions of RP more without any improvement to progression.

People would have the exact same issue with pokemon if it took a 200h for a single pokemon to be ready for the final fight, and you need 5 pokemon so a 1000h to get there, and it would still be less grindy than Warthunder.

You can’t compare to two, that’s like saying paying someone 5 cents an hour for their labor is fine because being paid per hour is the established way of paying employees, when clearly the issue lies in the amount.

And when you do a new character or save, you start from a new once more.

I mean if you want to talk about the progression speed in the game. Then thats a different thing than rank restrictions for research speed. They are related, but if you are disliking the progression speed, thats a different topic.

Im comparing mechanics. Where also in pokemon you would get 5 cents grinding lvl 90 on lvl 5 pokemon, instead of a dollar. Same way grinding rank 7 on rank 1 vehicles gives you 5 cents instead of a dollar.

If you want to talk about your hourly rate, then thats fine, but its not what im talking about. Neither am i talking about the way Warthunder dishes out progression.

Where pokemon and warthunder does it very differently. Warthunder doing a “hourly rate” and Pokemon a “action based rate”.

I am very specifically commenting on progression when there is a mismatch between level/rank, where there is a established way of doing it, and Warthunder does it that way.

Yup, i completely agree.

I think a simple fix is they need to basically remove Any penalty, and give us at least 10 times as much RP as they currently do (or lower the cost of vehicles by 10x)

I have over 5,000 hours in game, of which 99% of that time is Ground (RB) battles… and im still at about 9.0 BR for all nations… I should have unlocked Every ground vehicle after playing for 2,000 hours… maybe even less… Yet im still quite a ways off after Five Thousanand hours of in game play.

its Absurd, Asinine, Pathetic and NOT Acceptable.
