it is no secret that air rb is a mess right now.
things like RB EC were suggested, but apparently, the reason why it wasnt implemented yet is because “it would split the playerbase, thus we’d have to wait longer for games”
well then, why not replace the entire rotten thing with something else?
personally, im assuming there might be fraction of people who would prefer to repeat same stuff over and over again (climb, kill, die/win/lose) over having a dynamic and fun game mode such as RB EC (or something else for all i care), so i created this topic and poll to see how many people are like this.
Edit: i want to make it clear that i mean this for all tiers - from biplanes to jets
what is your opinion on air RB?
- i like air RB as is
- it just needs a rework/update
- air RB needs to be removed and replaced entirely
I am assuming that majority of players in this factions are just there to grind until they reach top tier in hopes that they get something better. What they don’t realize is that top tier is the same shit they have been playing while grinding, only slightly shinier planes and missiles.
I am all for some sort of reword/update. I would prefer it to be something like ARB EC. I actually made it quite known what I want it to be.
I will say that I prefer top tier now compared to what it was for the past year and the half.

Low(er) Tier :
Most fun I had in ARB was when we had historical match making. P51s VS BF-109, F86 VS M-15, etc. Yes, it was super difficult and yes, sometimes plane performance did feel unfair. But it was fun.
Top Tier :
Planes are balanced in to “level the playing field”. In turn all this did was to remove the reason to play a specific vehicle and to play said vehicle to it’s strengths. With the decompression and rocket damage bug fix this has fixed some of the issue, though it is still there.
In my opinion -
- Reduce the extent that vehicles are balanced at 13.0 +. Yes, this is “unfair” but so is life. It also means that some people will pick a “OP” nation but that in turn will get boring, forcing you to expand out to other nations, forcing a battle of skill.
- More Maps : Mysterious Valley was a great addition in my opinion. Really good terrain masking & size. Most battles on this map tends to be a touch longer in my experience.
- “Gunfight” - This is a game mode I see no issue with being added in and for the hardcore sweats that want a “DCS” experience without needing a HOTAS + Head Track. many people has been asking for this (not me) and a 1v1 or 2v2 guns only battle will make for some really great gameplay and skill development in the various aircraft.
- For the people that see this as a PVE base bomb game - A PVE mode that has got really good & smart AI to counter the “PVE” players, maybe a reduced reward system but it gives them a place to have fun and do their thing. This also removes players from random battles that always complain about something being too “OP”.
- SIM : I can not speak for this as I avoid this, I rather spend my time in DCS as that provides me with the accurate sim experience I am looking for.

I prefer “rework” to Air RB/EC standards.
With variety of targets/missions, without markers (only allies, like GRB), etc.

I disagree with most of these.
- Nations with bad planes are already doomed to face F-15Cs with AMRAAMs, let’s not make it worse. Wouldn’t be that big of an issue if researching a tech tree didn’t take hundreds of hours. Also it’s not really skill when you have enough AMRAAMs to saturate their countermeasure stores.
- I am all for this one. More maps are welcome.
- I would actively avoid this if it was placed in the current rotation of ARB. I already avoid small maps when I am playing alone, don’t make my chance for a good match lower.
- More PvE elements can be incorporated in ARB. Real air combat isn’t really a deathmatch, I don’t get why people think ARB should be just PvP.
- No idea, I don’t play sim enough to have a strong opinion.

looking at your post, i see its mainly focused on high tiers - but with this poll here i meant all tiers from biplanes to jets, is your opinion still same there?
I am not sure to what opinion are you referring to, sorry. Yes my post mainly focuses on higher tiers since that’s what I play most and can speak about with more confidence.
EDIT: Also it’s not just mine, Macekeeks and I made it together.

I would honestly just rework/update/fix ARB. I know some people like current ARB but I don’t see much reason for them to not like what I proposed. Of course I don’t speak for many people. This would need testing.

just like Ka-50 got boring of clubbing starter helis and went playing them themselves, right?
some aircraft can be cherry picked to win such fights, for example - people say that Yak-9T is a good plane, but it just cant stand its ground against zero, long time ago when matchmaker was historical you could see that well in “Khalkhin Gol” maps, most of the time, soviets consisted of Yak-9T’s and japanese of zeroes, it was always a massacre with japan having 90% win rate (if i remember correcly) in such matches, only way soviets could win would be by 2v1’ing zeroes one by one - should it be 1v1, soviets couldnt possibly win even against much less skilled players
im very enthusiastic about playing bombers and attack aircraft and let me tell you - there is no thrill in that, the fact that bombers cant survive against multiple fighters while having no escort doesnt mean they need a safety bubble game mode - it would be just boring - at the same time - look at them at sim EC, they are quite fair vehicles to play there and would likely remain even in RB EC

Definitely not placed in, but rather a separate game mode is what has been suggested for those asking for it. I might dabble in such games but personally, I preference the carnage that is large battles.
It is a PvP game where the goal is to eliminate enemy players. I personally do not like the bomb strat and keep CAS for ground battles. But there has been enough noise on this forum to show that a large enough portion of the players do not like said PvP element. Only other thing in game that can currently achieve this is custom missions and some of the single missions - no reward in those. Basically, the players that want to play with X vehicles but do not want player opponents. Weird one, I know.
I mean, heli rush is heli rush. Personally I have fun with Hydras and the Killer Egg. Also, Drat through the engine of a KA-50 does feel nice, not sure why people complain so much about them.
P51 & Spit VS Yak & Zero. Good days. Or as I stated, wing-rip Sabre sim VS the M-15. With that, some teamwork in ARB would not hurt - though too many people is too strung up on the “It’s my kill”.
Personally, I avoid. CAS in GRB is fun but bomb run after bomb run gets stale real quick. Not to mention getting to a base first just to be TK’d cause someone is gatekeeping a base.
Basically, the way I see it is “How can I still keep on having fun without a game mode being ruined by 5000 concepts that takes away from why the game exists in the first place”.
I know, and I am saying it shouldn’t be just that. If people actually want a “realistic” mode they need to realize that aircraft are never dispatched just to duke it out. There is always a bomber element following the fighter/interceptors, at least on the attacking side.

Players will have to learn to work as a team if you want a realistic layered assault. On another post today / yesterday people were getting confused about the task of interceptors, nevermind everything else.
Oh they will learn if they must. Necessity is the mother of invention, or something like that. A 5 minute guide and they are set. And if they don’t want to it’ll just hurt them. The concept isn’t that difficult.

Sim I have done B-17 and ME264. Still, personally avoid sim as I no longer have a HOTAS and when I do have HOTAS I go to DCS. One thing to take into account is that SIM is not the only game mode. For the devs convenience and how clustered code gets we need to look at what can work in Arcade, Realistic and Sim. Adding too much we end with spaghetti code and a game the size of COD, remove too much and it is stale.
War Thunder is the best game in genre that has probably done the most in gaming history to have a varied tier system of game play and style. That said, most of us started playing WT due to it being the most realistic in genre - the only place where people leak restricted and classified info in the name of realism.

For me, AB using prop aircrafts are really fine and fun to play, but when we reach the top tier, it’s completely madness, you got air spawned in front of 10+ enemies shooting 6x missiles each. I went to a AB match with my Su-27SM and it was insane since they use the small AB maps made for prop planes that flies at 500km/h max.
So I think the best option is a rework on that, scaling the map size by the tiers, so in Top Tier AB we can have the same size maps from RB.
Sometimes I don’t want to play with that much attention and awareness so I prefer to join a few matches on the AB than fly my jets on RB.
Also I find AB more fun on Naval and Ground too, seems to me a really casual gameplay, and I saw a lot of main AB players, they don’t want to be the best performance on their vehicles, they just want to enjoy the game without reading a entire wiki of each aircraft to check the performance or the best spots to target a tank.
That’s my thoughts on the Arcade Battles.
Remove the air realistic,lower than 6.7. US squad with japanese;russia squad with german,not “realistic”,replace air realistic is good idea,create a new mode,like real history ,german vs russian;US vs japanese,weak side give more chance(like air spawn) not create a kind of chaos for the sake of balance.
