It isn’t fair as you can ambush people in a totally unrealistic way. This also promotes passive/camping gameplay you talked about.
Everyone has access to sound settings as well, it’s like three clicks away.
Fiddling with settings equals to equipping more powerful round.
No, equipping rounds is a part of the gameplay itself. Cheating your way towards effective wallhack is not.
Sound scouting essentialy makes camping way more viable as rhe camper.will always know who is coming, from what direction, and all that through several buildings/obstacles. It’s also extremely unrealistic.
IMO it would be much more fair if the game set engine noise to 0 as a default. Hey, look, our game sounds like shit, but that’s because here we do sound scouting, cause some sweatlords can’t fathom not having additional advantage over casual players. Yay.
Same with ULQ - the game defaults to ULQ and only if you answer yes 3 times to a prompt asking you, if you really wanna go “non competitive” ,then and only then it should allow you to use higher settings. Again - game looks and sounds like shit, because that’s how it’s supposed to look and sound. Same with AF camping gameplay loop - prop gameplay is also designed to be shit and everyone should AF camp HARD. The only reason people are not is because being malicious little … is too boring
If I wanted 144.FPS, I would switch a few things from high to medium. Still nowhere close to ULQ. And this is no COD, 144 FPS won’t make a difference. If you looked at my statcard before statcards got ruined, you’d notice I casually stick to top 50 kills per battle (not nowadays as I learn to use bomber gunners which isn’t good for stats :D). Used to be top 10 for a few times when I was really trying. All withiut 144 FPS. How so? Other players had 20-40 more FPS than I did, surely it made them aim their cannons and improve their situational awareness by a lot…
…oh no, it didn’t.
Or maybe I’m WT god and with 40 more FPS I would be an absolute top 1?
Press.X for doubt.
Why would it promote passiv gameplay? First your statement must be accompanied by the fact, that everyone currently uses these exploitive sound settings and that it currently isn’t that way (doesn’t promote camping). So either way is the sound setting now exploitive because everyone uses it and it wouldn’t promote camping which it doesn’t because everyone currently camps corners with perfect awareness of who is coming when from what direction anytimes.
Where on the other hand, a solution where no one can hear anything perfectly wouldn’t even give the room for exploitation or leaving behind the players like the one I mentioned earlier here:
who don’t know that something like this was possible have to live with an disadvantage over everyone because nowhere in the game you get told that you can do a senseless thing like eliminating your own engine sound and this probably didn’t make him a full blooded camper just because he didn’t know before.
This one I don’t need to talk further about because of what I said just before…
No it does not, the game tells you about changing your ammunition in the tutorial pretty well actually. The tutorial also tells you about the range finder, like you literally have to use it to pass the tutorial…
Just like fiddling with settings, equipping better rounds is literally grasping for any advantage you can get. You can perform just fine with stock stuff.
Sound settings are nothing when compared to scout drones, as they’re as close as you can get to a legal wallhack.
So does/is 3rd person view camera. You can hide behind solid cover, scan the area carefree and pop out at any convenient time. This mechanic only benefits the camper and can’t be worked around by fiddling with your own settings.
I believe you’re overthinking this.
Remember, this game allows you to queue 12.7 GRB with nothing but a 12.7 plane and reserve tier tanks, allowing you to be hilariously uncompetitive.
I have to run the game fairly low to have ~144 FPS.
Having higher refresh rate will affect even simple tasks such as browsing and going from 140-150 to 100 FPS can be easily felt in a game like WT.
I was talking about 3rd person view camera.
You don’t need to do anything, just hug the corner and scout the area.
I just returned my sound settings to default and was greeted with obnoxiously loud hangar music. Someone living with this without going to the settings to tune it down a bit is beyond me.
My point still stands. Sound settings have like a dozen sliders and finding it isn’t a problem.
There a lot of features in the game you need to find and bind yourself.
So far, only thing I could agree with is to set the default value of your own engine noise to minimum or warn players about it in the tutorial. Removing the feature completely is something I don’t agree with.
This is a game so having some unrealistic things is just fine, especially if everyone has access to them.
Also, turning your engine off is a thing and will give you perfect hearing. Do you want to mute all game sounds then so you can rush in like a headless chicken (ghost) ?
I never had a problem with things being unrealistic and never brought an argument like that up in any of my points, it’s more that it limits me in the ways i can play the game.
I can’t push a point where someone is tunnel visioning a street from an OP spot with his passiv gameplay because he will hear me coming even though I came from a blind spot behind him because he heard me 200 meters away. You need like 3 tanks to overwhelm him were 1 of those die and the other one gets a crit untill they finally manage to take him out or it forces you to hop into a plane to kill him, where again you can’t be sure an AA won’t take you out the first 5 km you fly into the map. So what is this stupid gameplay were a behavior like that gets rewarded?
Exactly!!! And then it would finally make sense to use it! It gives you a situational advantage if used correctly because it also has drawbacks too, like you can’t move your tank 1,5 second before it turns off, it empties your battery which forces you to turn it back on and it needs 2 seconds or something to turn back on untill you can move, which would get you killed if an enemy rushes your position when you turn it off at the wrong moment, it would be perfect.
And you know what it would be even better if it would need like 3 or 4 seconds to turn it back on if you ask me, maybe even make it dependent on which tank you are using and how long it needed in reality.
He didn’t just teleport there, you need to remember that. Their team got that advantage by overrunning your team there, so retaking it should come at a cost.
Okay, overrunning a defensive position should be like that.
This is not stupid, it’s called controlling the space.
Not really since looking around corners in 3rd person view would still be a thing and you cannot make yourself invisible.
Many tanks have APUs that aren’t modelled, so batteries should last much longer than that.
Sure but if your position doesn’t get defended by other team mates in other streets leading to your position or you yourself aren’t checking if you are still safe from all directions you are not entitled to have that position, it’s not like since you captured it once you now have a free pass to keep it no matter how passiv your gameplay now becomes.
Yeah it should, if it is well defended, but if the enemy finds a blind spot where he brakes through he should get rewarded with an ambush on your team which isn’t really possible right now, because even if there was a bad defended position someone would still hear him through 3 buildings and go right after him.
It’s controlling the space but it’s controlling the space with not doing anything for it after you captured it, like you now were entitled to have it.
but if you have your engine turned off, you can’t peak the corner before the enemy drove into the street you are defending and he will notice you right after which now puts you into a disadvantage if you push him and now you are also vulneable for attacks from behind.
Retake it with a teammate, as he is literally unable to look and shoot two places at the same time. 1v1 situation should always favor the defender in that instance.
You have to defend it, it’s not in your control indefinitely.
You can easily shut it off after getting into a spot that overlooks multiple pathways.
Yeah as I said it should but only when you are attacking from the front side, when you get yourself into an ambush by playing passivly your defensive position doesn’t mean anything, that’s literally an ambush.
3rd person view exists because it looks good, it’s nice to see the vehicle you chose to use. Looking from behind cover is just an inevitable consequence, not a design choice.
It is unrealistic and abusable and if someone don’t like it they can play Sim battles.
Own engine sound muffling apparently exists to aid people with limited/sensitive hearing (otherwise it would be just bad sound design). The inevitable consequence is hearing and locating other players without needing to turn your own engine off (wich puts you at a disadvantage), that’s not a design choice.
It is unrealistic and abusable and currently there is no way to avoid it so maybe this could be implemented to Sim:
If you suffer from engine sound - then you would do just fine with a single “engine noise” slider. If engine noise becomes much more realistic (way less directional), with enemy engine sound being actually quieter than own engine sound, then the playing field is basically even. As it should be.
The battlefield in WT lacks A LOT of sound, like rifle and MG fire, grenades, mortars and artillery pounding almost non-stop. Hence the assumption that turning off the engine should realistically allow for “sound scouting” in the middle of a battle, while in fact commander would be either buttoned up in his tank or absolutely deaf by the time “sound scouting” opportunity happens.
I agree, turning engine off to “hear better” is something that shouldn’t actually happen in combat, similarly to open cockpit for planes and helis.
I’m just trying to find a middle ground
I’m sure this would lead to even more camping as people would be discouraged to push further as they have no idea what’s coming.
Caps have finite number of routes so just camping those wouldn’t be a problem.
Thats like saying you should waterboard your 5 star steak dinner with ketchup because its on the table, just because its on the table doesn’t mean its meant to be used for the steak.
No. Cause one you do not “decrease engine sound”, you turn your engine off. Two takes some time to turn off but also three takes time to turn it back on. This means you’re stuck for a couple of seconds and it makes a massive difference in combat cause you can’t move for those seconds and you’re going to panic and be dead.
Besides, slowing down will decrease your engine’s usage since it’s static at that point.
All of these are things done irl and just in-game and have the same cause and effect as it does Irl. Just in a more balanced sense irl, turning your engine back on took even longer sometimes just as long as matches.
