Remove the clouds in ARB

Which is exactly the reason they should stay. The mode is stale enough that any variation should be welcomed.

This is a valid point.

But imho there are much easier ways to improve Air RB matches that make it it much more “playable”.

From my perspective (Air RB, “real” WW2 props only) heavy clouds harm all parties - except the guys actively hiding in the clouds looking for 3rd party kills.

And i do agree that a complete removal of clouds is nonsense - the extremely heavy clouds with massive layers several thousand meters high and the various layers of clouds, fog or mist stapled on top of each other are the real issue.

If you might agree that markers are just a support tool for spotting and a lot of players play Air RB just due to the convenient markers as the these are allowing them to keep track and assess various threats in order to have some awareness, you might get the points why there is some resistance regarding this “weather update”.

  • The current spotting (marker) mechanics within these weather conditions are allowing that even extremely close aircraft can sneak up with a zoom climb without resulting in a marker. And not just in heavy clouds - just a very thin layer of mist is enough to get surprisingly easy kills even if your enemy is looking around.

  • You can easy verify this by watching replays as replays show often these effects (markers pop up after you opened fire).

  • Or if you have the pleasure to play a lot on Pacific maps - even if the sky looks clear they implemented effects (humidity causing mist?) which are massively reduce spotting (marker ranges) ranges. I got in my last match stalked by a guy in an XP-50. I managed to spot him as as he flew above the contrail border (around 6.700 meters on Pacific maps) and i stayed a few meters below this border, my marker was active at a range of 6-7 km (instead of 9-10 as usual) - and he didn’t saw me, he simply lost me.

And with altering the game i mean exactly this:

  • These weather effects are simply reducing your spotting ranges (horizontally and vertically). If you prefer to fly non-meta planes (so no high speed, good climb) and your game play is based on positional advantage and situational awareness you have to alter your game play.

  • You have either to take the risk of getting jumped if you climb at optimal speed - or to increase your speed whilst climbing in order to be able react on attacks coming out of nowhere - which will not allow you to gain positional advantage.

So planes which relies on turn performance and energy advantage paired with situational awareness are suffering, planes with high speed and good / exceptional climb benefit. And if you sideclimb with a non meta plane you are suffering from the “lonely P-47 syndrom” - you might be the highest, but your team is dead.

I mean real shatter 1.0 made some planes borderline useless due to the lowered damage output of cannons, they fixed this with real shatter 2.0, why not hoping that they find some balance with this weather and connected markers?

how am i supposed to land?

no. they should not

For the protocol:
I really enjoy the new clouds and find them a great addition to the game. Not just from the looks, but also from the play options.

Besides, clouds are realistic. I hope they stay!

Thinking any change should be “welcomed” is dumb. It’s a trash feature and should be removed.

(Proliferation of low-altitude clouds in many Air RB matches)

i dont know why ppl want bad gameplay

because its easier for bomber bros to hide in clouds and run back to base until they lose

With patience :-)

I mean you above the forward airfield - so no aaa cover; landing there is suicide.

U have 2 minutes fuel, you are not damaged - plenty of time to get to the main af. The friendly af aaa is giving you an indicator where the runway is and main af has in most cases small lights marking the runway.

If a G8N behemoth was able to land there, you can do this too!

You need s special license to fly by instrument only which never existed during WW2

Patch notes:

Removed the sun, because we deemed it unnecessary to the function of the game.

*Night battles

It was removed from ARB match because spotting system is joke like current clouds issues.

ARB is not TDM, it’s ticket based.

Technically Air RB is a PvP mode with some PvP elements.

Although it is at least in theory not a TDM mode, the vast majority of matches are decided by PvP actions, so you are not wrong if you call it a TDM mode.

The problem for most PvP oriented players is that the spotting/red marker mechanics are severely affected by heavy clouds; so these mechanics needs to be adjusted.

My fellow jet pilots are forced to play tree top to avoid getting slammed by AAMs and props can’t go low as they will get jumped out of nowhere…

I really like these patches of clouds everywhere, granted its not one big giant cloud, but i barely ever see this happening, its now often patches of low clouds where you quickly go above or below, which makes timing for ir missiles more important.

Positioning becomes more important, more risk reward.

With all due respect, I don’t have much tolerance for terrible ideas and zero tolerance for foolish, ignorant demands. I don’t sugarcoat anything and my usage of tact is very specific. If these people want to play without clouds, they can go back to playing arcade where the clouds have zero function. In ARB they have legitimate function, as they should, and as such no thought of removing them should ever be entertained. Period.

Anyone with eyes can see that they’re completely unable to see currently with how the clouds are generated in-game after the sons of Attila update. I’ve always played realistic and clouds would be around but they would never cover the entire map. They need to be pushed up higher and thinned out.

The new clouds are one of the more immersive and dynamic gameplay additions we’ve been afforded in Air RB in YEARS…and people are…complaining about them? Good grief.

That said, it would be prudent for Gaijin to devote some time improving the spotting mechanic and further refinement of air mode audio design, specifically improving panning, attenuation, and doppler effects.

It’s trash lmao. I just did 4 games and all of them have had clouds take up the entire map and make fighting annoying and frustrating.

Also, I once again can’t help but notice that all of the people in favor of this trash change are people who don’t actually fight other players the majority of the time. It’s either people who just ground attack or are some bobrunner.

Fun gameplay apparently.

Also, it would be huge problems when you play over 11.0BR because if you are not on BVR missile bus such as F-14s, you need to fly on the deck for saving from their missiles.
