Removal of chat timer

Do like me, turn the chat volume down to 0. Greatly enhance the quality of games

I love how half of the people here are asking to increase the chat timer because to them the chat is useless, but the same people will complain on other topics about players not helping each other and saying that there is no team work anymore.

I am also for a removal for the time, it makes no sense and we all know why we have it.
Right Gaijin?

Also I don’t think the chat is toxic in anyway, sure there are some stupid players, but overall, they players are quite nice in general.
As someone that has played, LoL, CoD, Dota and so on, dam the War Thunder Community is a club full of Gentelmen and Ladies.

i like how the justification of removing chat is because some people are racist.
it’s like “hey in this town some people are predator! let’s put chastity belt on everybody!”
is hilarious to me.

why, me, who does nothing, have to be punished for they few people that have IQ of room temperature?

If I remember well they didn’t add a timer at first, they completely blocked the chat for a while first, only leaving quick radio messages on. They blocked the chat cause a few players were making comments about the war in Ukraine, then after a lot of complaining and time they allowed it but with a longer timer. A similar thing happened with the profile pics, just cause some were using profile pics related those events they removed the customized profile pics we had since ever. And I’m pretty sure they also changed the forum cause of this, since this version of forum is so much worse than the previous one, and still a complete mess to use.

No, what happened is that a very large amount of Ukrainians and sympathizers were purposely taking one another, ramming them to get killed, purposely not helping them in need, sabotaging them in battle, etc just to get them killed for wearing certain Russian unit symbols. The chat limiter was added because of this controversy.

Some of them play in squads and use voice chat so it’s normal that they don’t need it BUT most players are not playing in a squad. The excuse of people speaking different languages is a joke, I’m not native english speaker but if I’m playing a multiplayer game with people from around the world most people will be using english language to talk to their team, except in RU server which I play very frequently. I’ve played plenty in squads and solo to know that the chat is very important to tell information to your team that you cannot tell in another way, many times I tell my team if a cap point is clear to be taken or how many enemies are there, and which type of tanks are in a certain place, or if I’m dropping bombs or arty in a certain place.

Also for those that don’t want to see the chat they can disable it on the Options > Main Parameters > Chat and Voice Chat > Chat Messages, just select Squad, System Only or Nothing.

So they blocked the chat cause there were supporters of both sides killing and ramming each other and all other things you’ve said? So why would they block the CHAT? They blocked it cause some people were discussing the war in Ukraine in the chat and arguing with each other, and one side was completely without a clue of what was really happening there. They even blocked squad chat!

I saw what happened in the game and in the old forum around those days, you can still find some info about the chat and custom profile pics being removed.

Yes the war in Ukraine was the only reason they removed the chat, icons and the possibilty to add flags decal. But if I remember correctly, it was supposed to be temporary

Not always true. I had a match just recently where I called out a helicopter in chat and couldn’t update its position to an SPAA who asked me before the heli killed me because the delay was so long. There are many such scenarios where having quick chat is useful. If the chat is that useless to you (and you’re busy “contributing” to your team)-just turn chat off.

That may be true, but that’s not how the current system works- you can write only one word and still have a chat delay.

They locked the chat because of what you stated above, ramming, and killing one another on either team. Another thing is discussing? also “Some”? you do realize that “Some” was almost every single match, of people throwing insults at one another.

Yep, remove the chat timer - its asinine and did nothing to stop any of the discussions it was misguidedly implemented to stop. Once upon a time WT actually did have some good dynamics of teamplay, which has slowly been eroded with stupid stuff like this - does nothing beneficial except hinder meaningful player interactions. There are better methods to moderate chat but frankly, if your one of the people who cant take the shenanigans that goes on in wt chat then probably public online communication with gamers isnt for you. WT is pretty tame compared to other stuff out there, either get a thicker skin or disable chat - don’t try and ruin it for the rest of us who want good teamplay back and a bit of fun banter/discussion.

Good. I enjoy a lively game and grew up with the lesson of sticks and stones.

It IS useful to me… in situations where the usefulness is achieved with a single message, though. 0 Messages is less helpful. 17 messages spammed at me is also less helpful. 1 message getting to the point is quite helpful pretty often.

Like the helicopter there: it physically can’t move far enough in 15 seconds or whatever to be significantly different to aim at from before, unless it was directly over his head already

How is a one-chat wall of text more helpful than two short chats back to back? The timer has nothing to do with the usefulness of the info being conveyed.

it isn’t, but if it can be either, just put it in one chat then, what’s the issue? The only time there’s a distinction is when you can’t fit it in one, in which case you’re almost certainly being way too wordy and wasting time typing. It’s a pretty reasonably long limit.

I’m really offended that you two are yammering on. Wouldn’t 1 post have sufficed? You won’t hear from me again because I’ve said all that I need to say. If you reply and expect a reply from me, that’s your problem. LOL

That’s a bit disingenuous. There’s plenty of information you can convey in one quick line of text (so, no essay) that is far more useful than a simple ping.

Example, imagine you’re going A on Golden Quarry, you have your binos out and see who on the enemy team is mirroring your move. So you type in chat, “four enemies going A”. That immediately gives everyone on your team useful information: they know there will be up to 12 on their side of the map. They know what to expect if I die at A and they risk being flanked or spawncamped.

Target ID is also something you can’t do with pings alone.

I will sometimes do something like, “T-44-100 exactly on mark” and then ping the location on the map.

Hardly the sort of thing that only belongs on Discord…
