Raise the F8F up or put it at Rank 4 just before or after the cannon U4's

Alvis doesn’t struggle against mid planes, so I’ll take that as a compliment.

But has the same level of wild takes that makes no sense and then lacks the ability to admit being mistaken after being proven so, then using gaslighting as a last resort.
What a compliment.

just dont bother with this dude, all he does is patronise and deflect, loser behavior.
personally i just muted him.

except… it does not? It is perfectly seen how you struggle to turn while his Spitfire does crazy turns on the spot. He only lost becuse he played bad

No, if .50 cals would 1 or 2 shot fires then .50 cals would just be strictly superior, as I’ve already said.

Not difficult.

The D-28/D-30 is still 5.0 for minor nations…it’s just USA who is being pampered with lower BRs.

In regards fo the aircraft this topic is about…

Any perquisite of the bearcat upping in BR is giving its engine its historically known trait of overcooling. Remember, Gaijin utterly tanked its thermal performance as a balancing measure.

The average player does not use MEC. When they play the bearcat what they see is a aircraft whose engine goes nuclear in the first five minutes in the fight. Then there’s the complication of the supercharger gear, where if you dont switch it in the correct altitudes comes with a great cost in engine power.

No wonder we see players loading F8Fs with bombs! The first impression must’ve made this plane seem abyssmal.

I would also like to note its horrible energy retention. Any kind of maneuver comes in a dramtic cost in speed, making it quite easy to make mistakes in dogfights. Of course, the bearcat has excellent energy generation to neutralize that, it and like most other US planes requires discipline that most players dont have the patience for.

And of course, the 4 .50 cals which can be quite lack luster.

Anyway, the F8F-1 can go to 5.0 or even 5.7 with its overcooling returned. That way, newer players can fly this plane and experience its potential without fiddling with the engine or super charger gears. After all, the plane with its quirks overcomed is very potent.

I can see it at 5.7 when Yak-3U, LF Mk IX and maybe even the F4U-4B move up to 6.3/6.0.

Oh and Yak-3 and La-7 can also move up. + Pyörremyrsky

Considering the we have evidence from the past back when .50s were flame throwers. People still played Germany, Russia, Britain and Japan and still saw success even though U.S. .50s were practically guaranteed fire starters then.

Hilariously those last two people complained about their guns being completely ineffectual during that time period due to crappy server desync issues where Russia and Germany were seen as superior at the time.

“Pampered”

New players play U.S. planes.
Players get absolutely dominated because they don’t know how to fly the planes.
Gaijin sees aircraft stats.
Moves them down.

You can find under-tiered aircraft everywhere, especially at lower BR. Like the Ki-44, Yak-1

Don’t forget that the P-36 and F2A you cry as being undertiered so much back then didn’t have any functional incendiary, and since you couldn’t snap wings with .50s back then, you were literally having to go for pilot snipes.

When you’re fighting most aircraft that have centrally mounted fuel tanks. Yeah. It’s more difficult to light fires because your only point of damage is the module mounted centrally

And cannons are 1 shot your point? Cannons will basically be always effective on the structure they hit. .50s are reliant on fuel tank placement.
If you’re shooting at a Bf-109 Well, your target is now the pilot, fuel tank and the engine and that’s all centrally mounted compared to most of the superstructure of the aircraft with cannons can just fire and snap wings…

Yeah but you also wouldn’t saw a plane in half as much as they do now.

Bombers could also burn much longer without breaking apart 10 seconds later. AFAIK.

Which brings us to fire severity and whether a plane is destroyed within 5 minutes or within 2h or less.

Did I not say I would be fine if we removed .50s ability for structural damage? No wing snaps, no empennage snaps. Make it like back in 2014-2015

Sounds likes good idea.

I hate having planes get sliced appart by 7.7mm or 12.7mm AP bullets. Which is just silly.

Can’t get over the fact that some planes have excellent armor protection for their tail gunner but then their tail snaps from a few holes into the fuselage.

I would also be happy, if pilots didn‘t survive 12.7mm and larger caliber hits.
At least direct hits, since armor in WT doesn’t work as well as it should against bullets.

Of course having ammunition fires and explosions could make up for making .50cals less effective against structure.

While cannon shells, that aren’t Mineshells, should just act as very beefy .50cal rounds.

Don’t know how many times I need to say this, the meta was entirely different, the planes were often VERY different with VERY different flight models, LOTS of things were different.

Yes. Pampered. Coddled.

It is extremely easy to land 1-3 .50 cal bullets onto a fuel tank.

Ammo count, ballistics, rate of fire. 4th Time saying this

Agreed but should be done with its FM fixed.

Currently F8F is the only FM that suffers from premature compressibility, the aircraft statrts to lose lift as early as Mach 0.1, while most airplanes begin at Mach 0.3-0.4.

This causes the F8F, despite using NACA230 airfoil, which is one of the best conventional airfoils, to have a CLmax of only 1.08 at Mach 0.4, even siginificangtly lower than La-9 and P-51 which uses lower lift laminar airfoils, and the F8F’s ill characteristic to lose tons of lift and having tons of drag at normal combat speed is extremely hinder the plane’s performance and ability.

The problem should be fixed before moving the airplane to a higher BR.

Nope, it already outperforms all 4.7s besides yak3s. The current FM is currently too strong.

It should be fixed and move to 5.7 and even 6.0.

I know this incorrect compressibility is probably added to balance the game, otherwise the F8F woule be able to outturn the Ki-84 for sure.

It should move to 5.3 currently, and move to 5.7-6.0 if fixed.

I see whats happening:
image
The F8F-1 in-game is given an over-estimated wing-area of 24.66 sqm, in reality, the F8F’s wing area should be 244sqft which corresponds to 22.67sqm. The in-game data gives extra 2 sqm of wing-area, causing it to have lower wing-loading, and in order to prevent this thing to be so overperformed, they added this compressibility factor…

The same thing nearly happened on the FW-190C, which it also given 2 sqm extra wing, but without worse mach factor, thus it becomes the best turning 190.

Urgh, 5 min wasted just to see those old ugly WT graphics and two Ki-43s getting set on fire by 8 .50cals 😩

Pretty sure .50cals had even better ballistics back in the day because I remember that they had crazy penetration retention at range.

I noticed that too. .50s had much better ballistics back then. They seemed to keep their energy very well in flight.

nerfed ballistics.
Nerfed flame chances.

I legit get more engine fires than I do fuel fires.

Holy crap just give the guns a break.

You have cannons at the strongest they’ve ever been when you have .50s at some of the weakest they ever been.
