Quick question. Do YOU have fun in War Thunder?

I have spoken with a few 10 plus year veterans of the game and they’ve said this exact same thing. That the game now is worse than it was a decade ago. That is wild to think about.

That a bad example by any mean. You can use literally ANYTHING as an example. And time change , no shit Gaijin need more money to sustain whatever the operating cost. Given their company is not small anymore. They are far from the worst dev on the planet, if you say so you clearly have not seen what other dev are doing.

And no I can assure you that they don’t mute outright squash any post that contain criticism. You can look for 5s and there a post with thousands of reply and it is still on

Do i have fun ?

I play max 10 matches per day
Usually quit after 5 or so

Before they moved to this new ugly and useless forum they used to delete all criticism and ban a lot of players who dared to hold honest non biased opinions.
Now they let posts stay but simply ignore it or have one of their fanboys (you all know who they are) come and try to sidetrack conversation with their usual B.S.

Can’t use “they have grown as an excuse” …they should’ve learned from that process and time and yet they didn’t …still running events in same way ,still have those box sales for lions that are fixed from their end ,still keep committing cardinal sin of introducing vehicles to BR’s that are way lower than they should be without any regard for health of the game .

I see the game as sub-based with the opportunity to be able to log-in and do stuff when you want to be semi-active or try new things when you are on a break. That’s how i operate it.
Also, BPs/events for me is a nice addition in my objectives/to do list. Even if i don’t care about the vehicles they offer, i can always sell, get money for free subs or buy things i like on discounts.
I’m not saying they don’t have “scummy tactics” , but you can bypass it by adapting to it and make it work for you!

I play 12 years. The answer is… Yesnoyesmaybenah.
When you had up to t5 jets, for example , many people didn’t even care about those jets…most of us were t3/4 mains - even if we grinded passively those jets.
Also , back there we had events with historical match ups every week, so if you didn’t like RB/ bored you could play those and usually they had RP/SL modifiers so they helped the grind.
That means , the grind wasn’t really long anyway (mostly because the very expensive stuff you may not even want to play them) but was still long.

Then there is… the historical accuracy thing. It’s easier (?) to find things that you know they are not classified , while some things even for planes from the 80s might still be classified .
Also the complexity. What you had? Gunfights… Ok. That’s that.
The more modern things, you have early IR, mid-IR, modern IR, IRCCM modern IR, SARH, beam riding, ARH, WVR/mid-range BVR/ long range-BVR and each missile has its own things and every plane has its own things forelectronics/avionics and even CMs where many planes may hd pods instead or rely more in their electronics suit that you may or may not have permision to use for the game and go figure balance it all…
You see i didn’t either go to flight characteristics of the planes. Armament alone is way more complex and not all of us have the same knowledge or understanding or adaptability .
I’m not saying if GJ are good or bad, i’m saying even if they are bad… it’s not so easy at it seems to actually make it good , while back there was way easier for them to make it feel better or fix some things.

And then you have the community. Back there our problem was to find papers that prove that X worked like this and Y worked like this. Many posts about bugs/MM etc./gameplay.
Now they are like…add this add that add C add E.
I haven’t seen many people (realtively) to have a strong point in “make a patch for new MM” , “only maps patch” , don’t add anything fix things around in a big patch.Even if the discussion starts about those issues, someone will start X vehicle OP Y mains are crap … not the MM is crap -generally.
Even if someone else starts something, here…get it :
Game needs decompression at 15.0 Brs. you’ll find more saying no, because 15.0 is too much, than seeing the bigger picture -decompression- , let alone there are people not knowing what decompression is but stating opinions that it doesn’t even need.
Someone will say 0,7 spread , someone will fk up the discussion because he won’t understand even what the spread means.
With that community, without a clear direction, if i was GJ i’d make the same …fk 'em , i’d tell you go play customs, they are as balanced as it goes.
If you ask wrong things , you’ll get wrong things…or what the dev believes is right.

Sorry for the wall of text, but i want to explain why i say the things i say.
And i’m not supporting GJs opinions, but community’s attitude in many parts doesn’t help either.
GJ is a company. They’ll do what is better for their wallet. You (every you and every me) as a customer, why you ask the next best plane , instead of new MM for example?
Myself i use to say it was better in the past , but that’s not the whole story . Mostly we just don’t see improvements in parts of the game they should have change as we went to more modern equipment.

TLDR:
It’s not only GJ fault. Community plays big part of it.

Knowing the community we gonna get F22/35 or Su57 or some random bs before any real problem get fixed because the community always cherry pick what they believe is “weak” or “OP”. At the same time buying to whatever Gaijin pumping out with an outragous price tag( Which they gonna complain about it anyway) before returning to complain about the mildest stuff ever

I have to respectfully disagree. My experience with a subscription based game, like FFXIV for example, is nothing like War Thunder. I can take six months off of FFXIV and miss no new content. It will remain there for when I resume the game. Not to mention the same events rotate in consistent manners permanently. In that time here, I can miss two or so battle passes, about four or five event vehicles, and a major update. Sure the major update doesn’t lock out new content but the other items subsequently rarely return and the items are gone unless they exist on the marketplace at often absurd prices.

You stated “you can bypass it by adapting to it” which reads as “I can avoid it by changing and accepting it”.

no :)

But wt is not a subscription based game ? It is free , whatever else they offer you is entirely on you to buy or not. You are free to download and play , literally nothing else and there are reason why they limit event vehicle , not just because of FOMO. It is also because they have a market for it and by selling those vehicle you can actually buy premium pack. You have to give credit where credit is due , not cherry picking stuff and compare it with another game that is different

i guess the top tier really likes low tier so much that i cant step foot in a open field for 4 secs before blowing up

The praise is in the core aspect or concept of War Thunder. Driving tanks and flying planes is generally fun. Graphically the game looks good for its age. That’s the credit where credit is due. You can absolutely cherry pick things about a game you like and don’t like. And the comparasion I made was in reponse to the other individual’s “sub-based” comment. It was my assumption they were comparing it to such a game.

Then at least make a good comparison ? Hello ?? There a lot of thing you could use and you use the one that make no sense to compare with WT ? Could literally use Wargaming cause despite their fucked up they still got a lot of good point that wt could use. And the guy didn’t even compare with any game bro , I know reading long paragraph from someone that actually care about the game is hard and see it true flaws but if you can’t be bothered , then might as well not talk

ARB - 9.3 - 13.7
I think top tier Air is still a mess, but I just love playing the JAS39C. F-5T at 11.3 is probably the most fun I’ve had in an aircraft, Python 3s are very fun missiles. The VTOL at 9.3/9.7 (Harrier / Yak-38) are all fun to play too, albeit a bit difficult.

GRB - 6.0-7.0, 9.0-11.7
6.0-7.0 are all great lineups (6.7 JPN, now 7.0 FRA, 6.0 US), while 9.0-9.7 have probably the most fun Japanese lineups in terms of pure light vehicles + CAS (Alpha Jet A/TH + AV-8S), while 11.3/11.7 are the last tiers before Kh-38MT hell.

Yes, not playing top tier left my brain unharmed. And simply playing what ever I feel like and not grinding also helps to enjoy game too. I dont even need to grind anyway since I reached point where I have everything I ever needed without really ever try harding the game.

I only do not like that japanese ww2 tanks are overtiered but I enjoy it anyway as I dont mind playing hard mode that makes the game challenging.

I don’t understand how and why anyone would play a game they don’t have fun with, and it blows my mind that 36% of the poll’s voters claim that they don’t…

“I see the game as sub-based with the opportunity to be able to log-in and do stuff when you want to be semi-active or try new things when you are on a break. That’s how i operate it.”

I know reading comprehension isn’t as strong these days so I will help you. This lovely lad here said they see Gaijin as a sub-based game. Sub-based to many people means subscription based game. A subscription based game they can log into and do things and then bug off to go do other stuff. War Thunder isnt a subscription-based game. World of tanks isnt a subscription-based game. So hey, that’s a weird comparasion but Im game; I’ll compare it to a popular subscription based game.

They are not the same game, fundamentally. But that was the comparasion made. And again, I can cherry much as I want about the game. Just because I enjoy Iron Man and Thor, does not mean I like Spiderman or Captain America or pick 12 other Marvel characters. Or that I enjoy Disney as a whole. War Thunder has a few things I enjoy but that does not mean everything else is accepted by association. And there is a lot about Gaijin someone can not be kosher with or about.

Same like USA mains who said USA top tier sucks donkey but still keep playing it lol

This. When the stars have aligned then you can have a lot of fun.

But otherwise there’s so many things that can go wrong.

This has been a common occurrence as of late. Can’t put my finger on why that is.
11.7 USA btw

If I wasn’t having fun, I wouldn’t play it.
