Puma S2 (2026): "I'm the upgrade"

Puma S2

History & Introduction

The Puma IFV is no underdog, being well known for beating even a T72 in mass. It is marketed as one of the most protected and capable IFVs in the world.

And now, its only getting better. Revealed in Eurosatory 2026, it builds on its predecessor shown in Eurosatory 2024. Starting this very same year, the second batch of Puma IFVs are going to be delivered to the Bundeswehr, a whole 250 in number, albiet the first 50 of them will follow in configuration S1 and the later 200 will follow S2. With that, they bring a bunch of new capabilities.

At the forefront is the state-of-the-art MUSS 2.0 softkill Active protection system. Based on the older model, this version increases its capability and allows the system to use a laser beam to jam incoming missile seekers. In essence, it is what we call a DIRLCM. This upgrade will make the Puma S2 immune to all IR guided ATGMs and AGMs alike. SACLOS ATGMs would fare no better and would be jammed as well.

Puma S2 will also be able to automatically detect and inform the crew of the presence and direction of gunfire using its new acoustic gunner detection systems, thereby increasing overall situational awareness for the operators inside the vehicle.

Some obsolete command and control equipment will also be replaced and or upgraded. Most importantly for the modern battlefield, Puma S2 will have integrated drone defense capabilities which will enhance its survivability against ambush attacks from drones and similar loitering MITL munitions.

In War Thunder, the Puma S2 would prove a valuable ally since it would be able to defend an area around itself from incoming IR ATGMs, giving closeby allies some much needed respite.

Top tier helicopter: you can’t hit me
Puma: you can’t hit me
Helicopther: spike
Puma: also spike

Lets be real if it has autotracker with huge range and will be at 11.0 it will obliterate all helicopters, they already are suffering from stuff like PGZ09, only top tier helicopters are dangerous.

I would suggest it to be at higher br than previous pumas

1+ From me. The MUSS 2.0 has a more advanced Jamming Capability meaning its gonna be more pretty Decent unlike its First Gen Counterpart.

they are balanced by, not suffering from. It’s the ground that suffers from choppers.

Are you sure, some helis don’t have any anti air capabilities
Some don’t have even atgms, but are pushed against spaags with radars and proxy ammo
Most helis don’t have much kills, usually just try to do something with unguided rackets
Only top tier helis can fire missles from safe distance from autocanons and short range missles, but spaas can still see them behind anything and keep firing missiles, when helicopters can’t even see and lock on targets.
Only top tier helis with advanced counter measures and fnf missles are dangerous
I don’t remember dying much because of helicopters, they usually do nothing and rarely have any kills.

I dont think any such exist at 11.0

11.0 puma already has these features and is in no way even a threat to helicopters.

+1 although I thought a suggestion for this already existed

+1, is the fire rate faster tho? 200 on the puma vjtf is so slow for me…

But it was said it protects from all IR missles, both wired and as well as hellfires

Yes that’s called a APS system.

I see LDIRCM on ground unit, me want

Yep its the same 200RPM. But there is a new mode introduced in the Eurosatory 2026 which is meant for Anti Drone Purposes and it increases the Fire rate to 600RPM but this one isnt in any active service nor is there any plans to implement it on the Pumas MK 30-2.

I dont know of any helicopters at 11.0 that operate wired ATGMs as their top weapon

For the tech demonstrator from eurosatory 2024 yes
For the eurosatory 2026 puma S2 production, this is the one

Soft-kill APS doesn’t work against wired missiles
Even LDIRCM doesn’t work against SACLOS missiles with IRCCM

According to hensoldt muss 2.0 can stop wired missiles
