History & Introduction
The Puma IFV is no underdog, being well known for beating even a T72 in mass. It is marketed as one of the most protected and capable IFVs in the world.
And now, its only getting better. Revealed in Eurosatory 2026, it builds on its predecessor shown in Eurosatory 2024. Starting this very same year, the second batch of Puma IFVs are going to be delivered to the Bundeswehr, a whole 250 in number, albiet the first 50 of them will follow in configuration S1 and the later 200 will follow S2. With that, they bring a bunch of new capabilities.
At the forefront is the state-of-the-art MUSS 2.0 softkill Active protection system. Based on the older model, this version increases its capability and allows the system to use a laser beam to jam incoming missile seekers. In essence, it is what we call a DIRLCM. This upgrade will make the Puma S2 immune to all IR guided ATGMs and AGMs alike. SACLOS ATGMs would fare no better and would be jammed as well.
Puma S2 will also be able to automatically detect and inform the crew of the presence and direction of gunfire using its new acoustic gunner detection systems, thereby increasing overall situational awareness for the operators inside the vehicle.
Some obsolete command and control equipment will also be replaced and or upgraded. Most importantly for the modern battlefield, Puma S2 will have integrated drone defense capabilities which will enhance its survivability against ambush attacks from drones and similar loitering MITL munitions.
In War Thunder, the Puma S2 would prove a valuable ally since it would be able to defend an area around itself from incoming IR ATGMs, giving closeby allies some much needed respite.
