PUMA S1 (2024) - Special Enhancements… and a second Turret

Hi and welcome to my 62nd suggestion, which is about the PUMA S1 (2024), hope you like it.

Basic Background

The development of the PUMA officially began in 2002. The aim was to develop a vehicle that would meet the requirements of the modern battlefield, including improved protection for the crew and increased firepower, as well as mobility.
The technical development was carried out by a consortium of Krauss-Maffei Wegmann (KMW) and Rheinmetall Landsysteme (RLS). In 2006, the first prototypes of the PUMA were presented, tesst and evaluation phases began only a little later. The requirements were high; the new IFV was to have state-of-the-art armor to protect the crew from mines, IEDs (Improvised Explosive Devices) and ballistic threats. In addition, advanced mobility characteristics were to be guaranteed in order to be able to operate in various types of terrain.
After several years of testing and optimization, the PUMA was officially introduced into the Bundeswehr in 2010.
In the following years, improvements and modifications were continuously made to the PUMA in order to meet the latest technical standards and operational requirements, for example the S1 received a MELLS (EuroSpike-LR) launcher on the side of the turret. At Eurostatory 2024, PSM presented another, improved PUMA S1, including a new and greatly improved version of the MUSS.

The PUMA S1 (2024) Overall

The Puma S1 (2024) largely corresponds to the S1 currently being delivered to the Bundeswehr, but is however equipped with a turret-independent secondary weapon system (TSWA), the new MUSS 2.0 stand-off soft-kill protection system and DedroneSensor RF-300 (C-UAS).
The MUSS 2.0 system from Hensoldt consists of four passive sensor heads, a central unit, a laser-based infrared jammer (IR jammer) and a unit for emitting pyrotechnic decoys. It can detect and combat various threats such as anti-tank guided missiles of different guidance types (e.g. beam-riding), tracer rounds, rocket-propelled grenades and muzzle flashes. It also detects and classifies low-power lasers and can prioritize and combat multiple threats simultaneously. The system’s data can be fed into the Battle Management System and the threat database can be continuously updated to effectively counter future threats.
Also integrated is the DedroneSensor RF-300 (C-UAS) system, which is able to detect, classify, locate drones as well as their remote control signals passively.
The TSWA (“Turmunabhängige Sekundärwaffenanlage”), which is still in the pre-production phase, is an unmanned weapon station with a 40 mm grenade launcher for close-range protection and thanks to pre-mounted assembly parts compatible with all VJTF and S1 PUMAs currently in service. The TSWA can fire both lethal and non-lethal grenades and is equipped with 360-degree day and night vision optics and a laser rangefinder. It has a range of up to 400 meters and a rate of fire of three rounds per second.
The combat load consists of 18 lethal and 18 non-lethal grenades. Lethal grenades are housed in an outer, rotating drum, while non-lethal grenades are housed in a fixed drum in the middle. The non-lethal module can be exchanged for other functions, such as smoke, CS or flash bang grenades.
The TSWA is also prepared for future medium-velocity ammunition types of the 40 mm grenade and tempable 40 mm ammunition. Main armament continues to be the 30mm MK 30-2/ABM.
The Vehicle is powered by a V10 MT 892 Ka-501 from MTU Friedrichshafen, which offers 1090 hp. On the road, it reaches a top speed of 70 km/h.

Thanks for your time, hope you liked it :salute:

Pinnacle of German Light Vehicles, this will be an insanely fun add. Especially with the TSWA. +1

No on the basis that anybody who plays the PUMA (and the 2S38) are not people.

great suggestion to fill lineups +1

+1 Solid addition, hopefully this MUSS works properly in game…

Yes on the basis to piss of HolmanTheHorror ( although i agree with the 2S38 take)

Some additional sources to MUSS 2.0:

New MUSS 2.0 laser based jammer is capable of defeting IR-guided atgms
=>

Additional information about MUSS 1.0: “The jammer of current generation MUSS is proven to be effective against optically tracked wire-guided, jam resistant 2nd and 3rd generation (those guided by IR seeker) missiles, laser target designated (LDT) guided munitions and laser range finder threats”
More information about threat detection and classification capabilitys: "The MUSS 2.0 will be able to detect the latest laser threats, including the second-generation laser range finder, as well as laser beam riding missile guidance, both continual wave (CW) and pulsed. Being able to detect and then classify beam riding missiles is a key threat identifying capability. "

MUSS 2.0 will consist laser dazzling to dazzle laser beam riding missiles, altough in newer articels they call it laser based jamming

Another article on MUSS 2.0 was published today (unfortunately only in German again).

It describes how Hensoldt, together with the Frauenhofer Institute, has developed a prototype of an acoustic sensor module to supplement the existing sensors. This consists of 120 microphones with a size in the millimetre range. It should be able to precisely locate various hazards. The muzzle blast and the sound of breaking through the sound barrier, as well as the noise of drone engines, were explicitly mentioned.
A database will then be used to identify the threat and suggest the most effective countermeasure.
It should be commercially availible in about two years.

The new laser-based IR jammer without visual protection was also shown. The lowest segment is the new acustic module.

Gaijin ruined PUMA S1 in dev server with old MUSS, even without Dedrone RF-300 C-UAS.

Well its not the Puma S1 in the dev. Its the PUMA Vjtf.

Then they are should rename it then.

Its called PUMA VJTF in the dev.

Oh yeah you’re right. Thx m8. Another garbage PUMA with unworked MUSS 1.0

Yeah the leaks were wrong about it being the PUMA S1. Unless they plan on adding a module upgrade that makes it into PUMA S1 which would make sense since the only upgrades for the S1 is MUSS 2 and new Spikes.

Gaijin just scared their Russian player can’t kill PUMA since MUSS 2.0 can handle such as Beam Riding missile.

That makes a lot more sense. The puma in the dev looks nothing like this one

The Puma in this configuration with MUSS 2.0 and the turret-independent grenade launcher was shown for the first time ever 1.5 months ago.
It was not yet clear what this version would look like.
And since it can be assumed that updates are planned many months or even a year in advance, it should come as no surprise to anyone that such a new version is not added to the game less than 2 months after the first images were published. Especially when you consider how many bugs the original version of the Puma still has
