Proposed Churchill nerf is ridiculous

The churchill, a heavy tank, slower than the Maus, with mediocre firepower but with strong armour. This thing on large maps is rubbish. It can be destroyed frontally by plenty of SPHs/SPGs and tank destroyers. It also can be destroyed by plenty of other medium and heavy tanks at it’s own BR. People just either don’t know how to take it out, or they chose not to flank, or engage it at high risk, and lose.

This tank is moving up, and will now face 6.0s in full uptiers. This is inexcuseable. IS-2s, Panthers, SU-100s, and M18s.

This will simply be the antithesis of fun. It struggles enough as it is in full uptiers already, and that’s because of it’s gun being too garbage, at the trade off for armour, and now the armour is even more redundant with the gun being even less effective.

love how the vk3002 is like at the same br and completely counters the churchill

Im not too surprised it is going up. Getting the APHE round was a very large buff.

Maybe if APHE got that rework it would not be going up.

That thing molests Kv-1s. Thank God it’s moving up.

VK3002 is one of the most OP tanks in the game in my opinion, yet ppl seem to have just forgot about it.

yall crying about APHE when the sherchill exist )na75)

yeah but the na75 is a churchill 3 hull not a 7 so its kinda sad

And that tank would go down in br if it lost the APHE

To be fair the VII absolutely dunks on an IS-2 because the Cupola. I agree with your point overall though the VII did not need to be moved up. It’s a strong tank at 4.7 but it’s not uniquely strong. There is a significant amount of the map pool where it’s just completely useless, and uptiers against Germany are non-games for it because of how comically hard the VK dunks on it. I genuinely think the KV-1E is better than the VII. Sure the gun is worse, but the mobility is so much better it’s not even funny.

It’s a known phenomenon that War Thunder players do not know how to kill Churchills.

important to note that it also has the cast turret which is… not great.

it could go down in BR anyway lmao

only bad KV-1s lose to a VII. There’s like, one chassis that can be LFP’d by the VII and everything else is just praying volumetric decides to let you kill the soviet demon. Meanwhile the KV-1 shoots your barrel and your turret roof in that order and wins immediately (sometimes it will take 2 shots for the turret roof to pen but it does go through)

Here is the winrate increase that drove the Churchill VII to be increased in BR. Happened right after the APHE was added. It makes sense why its being moved up since its overperforming now at its current BR.

Gaijin’s Idea of “overperforming” is not being total Shit.

See The Chieftain Mk10 and 900.

They both needlessly got moved up because they have no actual understanding of their game, And refuse to listen to the community, instead just listening to their Ai chat bot to make up stats.

The Churchills didn’t NEED APHE, and it could be taken away with no issue.

The solid shot worked Fine, the people that complained were just ones that didn’t understand how to aim.

I personally don’t even like the APHE, it makes it way harder to kill KV-1s and such because it just fuses and detonates in the mantlet before the shell does any real damage.

Take the APHE away, and id be 100% okay with it, instead of the MkVII being bumped up to 5.0+ for no reason.

Because this is the start of a Snake eating its own tail situation that will lead to the MKVII being like 6.0, just because people would still KNOW how to use it. To make the armor work, and make the gun work. APHE is just overpowered as is, and it needs changed. You don’t need to add it to vehicles that Didn’t NEED it, then needlessly move it up.

It very clearly shows the tank jumping in winrate solely to APHE being added, there is no AI making up stats here. Idk if you have played 4.7 since it was added but yeah they ae kind of stomping. If you are having trouble then what might just be a skill issue on your part.

Plus your argument for the Chieftain 900 is dumb too since when it was added it was overperforming off the rip. Now its sitting where most tanks sit winrate wise.

the 900 is just a worse Mk5 in every other than having a barely higher top speed.

It IRL doesn’t even have the gun to SHOOT APFSDS. It shouldn’t have it. It should be 9.0. And the Mk10 Should be right there beside it.

Also, I have been playing 4.7 a BUNCH for the event, I don’t see Churchills doing well at all.

I stomp on them in my Chi-To’s.

Even my KV1E and KV7 line up pretty easily clears them out.

i’ve actually not played the Churchill much since the Addition of APHE. its worse now. The gun went from a Punchy AP thrower that could sneak Solid shot into places you wouldn’t expect, to just another boing APHE thrower that can’t exploit alot of weakspots because the shell detonates or shatters.

Look you can make your arguments but at the end of the day there is clear data showing that the tank is now overperforming at its current BR. If the APHE was added and there was like a 1-2% increase in winrate rather than the 6% jump then the Churchill woudnt have moved up.

So what about Russia top tier with its 60-70% win rates?

Or so many other tanks and vehicles that have Win rates well into the 60% range that haven’t been moved.

Why is it ONLY a problem with the Churchill?

This isn’t balance. Its just targeting something that isn’t the problem.

I mean Germany gets to run around with a TD with BETTER EFFECTIVE ARMOR, at a lower BR, with 150mm of pen. Yet because German mains are inept as all hell, it doesn’t get moved.

Wow you mean the favored matchup wins the 1v1? That’s crazy.

This is just blatantly untrue. The VII was actual dogwater before because the British 75 was extremely anemic. It worked on the Cromwell and Valentine because of their additional mobility and lack of armor on opposing tanks respectively. The VII can actually do things now, and struggling with KV-1s is not a unique experience to the VII. Also you just straight up have an additional mm of pen now.

I’ve played almost exclusively 4.7 since the update dropped and a lot of that time has been in the VII. The VII is overperforming for two main reasons

  1. An influx of players spamming it when the update dropped (this has stopped and you can tell because you’re getting way more uptiers now)
  2. People do not know how to kill Churchills

Reason 1 was always going to go down and Reason 2 has been going away as of recent. The VII is insanely map dependent, moreso than many other heavy tanks because the 75 is still a mid gun even with APHE. It’s almost worthless into uptiers against Germany (and as such is going to be almost worthless in most 5.0 games) thanks to how badly Panthers and VKs dunk on it and literally any chaffee player with a brain just owns you. The VII is a good tank now, but it’s not uniquely strong for 4.7. The Firefly is just the better vehicle in a significant amount of scenarios because the 17 Pounder is an Actual Good Gun and all the armor in the world can only do so much in response to that. The VII is forced to be a W+M1 machine because it just doesn’t have any mobility, and this is exploitable by anyone with a brain and situational awareness. The turret roof weakspot has also been getting exploited more and more often lately. Gaijin did not wait long enough to perform these BR changes and the VII is going to become much worse if it gets moved up.

None of the russian top tier vehicles have a 60% winrate, the highest one is the T-80BVM at 55%. As it stands the Churchill VII has a higher winrate than anything with russia top tier.

Any Russian 76 can just Turret roof the thing at range. Same for German 75s up close.

Plus if you just shoot the air intakes on the side you will 100% Ko the engine.

They aren’t hard to kill.

The Air intakes thing also works on the Black prince if all else fails, If its angled too you, and you have a shot at the raised things on the engine deck, take it. they have enough armor to fuse shells, and it WILL Ko the engine.

Pretty much everything can turret roof it actually, it’s effectively like 60mm of armor. It’s not hard at all to kill (on most maps) and even if you can’t get a good angle on the turret roof, it’s not hard to flank a VII. Also, once the front mudguard gets blown off (or just straight up from behind), longways through the tracks REALLY fucks it up.
