Please revert back to a better time

I’ve been playing the game long enough to remember when balance existed. Top tier was Mig15 vs F86 Sabre, and each had a play style that would counter the other. Mig15s were good in the vertical, and turning. The Sabre was able to roll and reach higher top speeds. Everything was the best it would ever be and I took it for granted.

As time progressed, we got jets like the MiG-17, the cougar and everything still remained fairly balanced, but the issues started to really show when Gaijin decided to switch to mixed battles. Its now been about 6ish years since they decided to do that and ever since, its been tremendously fucked up.

Every match has turned into a blueprint vs blueprint style fight, where both teams are using the same aircraft and its thrown head to head rather than anything resembling strategy. They opted for “E-sports ready” rather than remaining a game about historical battles and the use of the vehicles in them.

Every Nation realistically has a meta (doctrine). At the current high-top tier, USA should have better technology and SA, while RU should have jets that are more durable and are equipped ECM that can move quickly to intercept. As it stands now, one second you can be fighting an SU-27, and the next you’re fighting an F-16 while you’re in a hornet. This throws the dynamic of the match off as before, you had abilities that countered the other side, but now its completely even and mundane. You can even scale it down for mid-lower tiers as Germany was always good at being interceptors, and USA was generally a BNZ nation, or how Germany had a high climb rate throughout the tree, and USSR had incredible low altitude performance. Now, both teams have every ability so its no longer about knowing how to use your plane against the other team, but rather getting lucky enough to not run into an aircraft that does what you do, but even better. To make it simple, every Nation had a set doctrine along with its respective vehicle strategies, and that was used to the other teams detriment.

Gaijin NEEDS to revert back to a historical battle setting. This could be alternate history or real history, I don’t care.

Here’s a suggested list of possible scenarios for the matchmaker post Korean war:

Taiwan strait conflicts (1954-55, or 1958)
Vietnam
operation urgent fury
Falkland war
Fulda Gap
Desert Shield / Desert storm
6 day war
Suez crisis

I could list more but i think you understand where I’m going.

Realism isn’t just about aerodynamic performance and physics of vehicles and weapon systems, it comes down to how they are used and what they were suppose to go up against. Many try to say that “War Thunder is more realistic than DCS” which is true only on paper if you look at a single issue. DCS does have issues with proxy fuses. But with that aside, DCS is way more immersive, and situational awareness isn’t handed to you and the flight models and fidelity are of much higher quality which leads to a much more realistic use of the combat vehicles in game.

As much as I would prefer to not have copy paste trees, unfortunately that is the case now: everyone has F-16s because America forced them to have it. Japan has been rightfully neutered, so now they are forced to have American equipment to protect their island from supposed threats. Taiwan relies on American weaponry, because America made them reliant, therefore they have American stuff. Same goes for everyone else using the F-16, F-15, F-35, etc.
The similar can be said for Russia. People needed cheap equipment, Russia gives everyone who is willing to buy their stuff. Hence why everyone and their mothers uses the MiG and the Sukhoi to an extent.

If you really want balance, the closest we can get is by forcing every F-16 on one team, every F-15 on one team, every JAS39 on one team, etc., but that would require Gaijin to actually do something productive.

Balance has always been an issue at every time of the game depending on what nation your playing at the time and vehicles.

Not really , since mix nation MM you can have US vs US , USSR vs USSR etc… it doesn’t matter.

It was always an issue . But let’s be real here , different balance issue is WW2 tiers than Modern weapons tiers.
I play from 2013, it’s not that it was good in balance. But it wasn’t as crap as it is now…Now it needs remake the whole MM. Decompression, BR spread, maybe a different system altogether…something. It’s too bad.

Custom battles?

No, historical battles were unbalanced, unfun, and worst of all the game wasn’t even as realistic as it is today.

Historical battles would also prevent people from using prototypes such as F-20A.

Having vehicles of the same name isn’t copy-paste.
Having copy-paste vehicles is copy-paste, such as Italy and Germany’s T-72M1s.

It won’t be more balanced. What i can support in a historical based MM is that there will be a reason a vehicle is Op against something and that will be realistic status quo…
It’s not that the artificial balance makes wonders when you see things like A-10 with 9L be able to fight flareless chickens and i don’t care if it’s slower , 9L is guarantee kill from any aspect with no flares and at least at 2km away (because it’s slow).

The only problem is no RP/SL , no grind…
If they give “income” to custom battles , i don’t think anyone will touch current modes ever again… except arcade maybe.

I agree, I did over look that. But that could’ve been fixed by making it a NATO vs USSR matchmaker post war. But no, they let the CL13 sit on USSR teams.

And yes, the game is more realistic than prior. Ground physics back then was garbage, rounds didn’t have volume and could squeeze between armor plates being only a pixel wide, so on and so forth.

If you keep calling people names for stating basic facts, then you’re not going to get along with people.

I’d be fine with not having experimental vehicles. In fact I hate that they’re in game along with every nation having other nations stuff. Which also helps ruin balance

BR might as well be called balance rating.
If you don’t like facing a vehicle, get better at fighting that vehicle.

What you could do is make a match maker that only allows so many of one type of vehicle like air RB does.
