Actually It doesn’t, it just looks like that because of perspective, or at least not nearly as much as you think it is.
If you actually look at the angle, it’s 55º. That means it is perfectly horizontal because that is the exact construction slope of the Panther’s UFP. Technically, it is coming slightly from below, but the difference in angle is less than half a degree. And a lot of very complicated math would be required to even get to that point.
Point is, it is more accurate to align the camera like that than to align it with the cannon barrel of the Panther. Neither method is completely perfect, however, one very clearly wields better results.
I see that the prot analysis for the M26 is hilariously off. Gaijin needs to stop breaking prot analysis every update.
Anyway, M26 is still similarly armored to Panther in game versus most vehicles and you certainly have other upsides such as more impactful things such as way more gun depression (which is honestly what you should be doing in M26. The turret can be troll, the hull is for rushing when you know you can win the matchup. It’s also worth mentioning how much APHE the 90 has.

It is not urgent that the Leo 1 go down and it doesn’t quite suffer, but it is definitely subpar compared to other MBTs of the BR.
Yes, armour is important. APHE is still common around 8.0 and everything but the Leo and OF-40 is highly resistant to it. Not to mention low-calibre HEAT-FS and APDS from light tanks.

8 degrees panther, 10 m26 such a big advantage
Angle is more effective due to shell denormalisation on slopes
2 degrees is a big advantage. You also do not account for gun depression over the sides or rear.

M26’s turret placed in frontal part of chassis so rear angle is bad.
According to the datamines, if I read them correctly, the M26 and Panther A both have -3º of gun depression over the rear.
The M26 is better than the Panther A. I just disagree it’s .7 BR better and worthy of the same BR as the Tiger II H.
Of course, m26 should remain on 6.3, and T26E5 as well as Tiger II P should be on 6.3 too.
Did you tested penetration on test drive?
From 120m I can pen Panther D hull with T33 ammo.
120m. Almost point blank.
Doesn’t change the fact that I can pen the turret without any issue from longer distances

T-54 1951: awful mobility, gun handling, reload, gun depression
Centurion: really awful mobility
TO-55: same issues as T-54
M60A1: same issues as M60
Type 59/69: same issues as T-54

Tanks at the same BR should trade blows with each other, and Leopard does exactly that with vast majority of 8.0 tanks, so I don’t see a single reason it shouldn’t be 8.0.
You are quite wrong, only mediums that are clearly and utterly better are OF-40 and Vickers, so that’s like, 2 tanks out of more than a dozen, right ?
Nope, it’s importance is way less than what you’re trying to portray it to be.
Also, APHE isn’t really common around 8.0, vast majority of mediums from 7.0 and above will have access to APDS/HEAT.

In spherical vaccumm situation it can pen turret face, but gun isn’t absolutely accurate and turet face if it isn’t F model is volumetric hell which eating even 122mm shell with machine gun and optics.
Unironically you can penetrate the hull from a longer distance with M304 APCR… roughly 250 meters.
