BR Decompression Suggestion for Top-Tier Air Battles
After seeing the recent Battle Rating changes, I’d like to suggest an idea that could help solve one of the biggest issues in top-tier Air RB: BR compression.
The biggest problem isn’t necessarily that one aircraft is overpowered. It’s that aircraft from different technological generations are forced to fight each other simply because there isn’t enough BR space.
A good example is the MiG-29 (9-13), Su-27, and Su-33, which are all currently at 13.0.
These aircraft regularly face fighters such as the F-15C, Su-30MKK, Mirage 2000 with MICA missiles, and other aircraft equipped with modern Fox-3 missiles and much more advanced avionics.
However, not all of the 13.0 aircraft are equally capable in these matches.
For example, the Su-33 has access to a much stronger weapon loadout, a better radar, and is overall a more capable platform than the MiG-29 (9-13). Meanwhile, the MiG-29 (9-13) only carries two R-27ER/ET missiles and four R-73s, while also having a less reliable radar that can struggle to maintain track.
Simply lowering aircraft like the MiG-29 (9-13) to 12.3 or 12.0 wouldn’t really solve the problem either, because they would then fight aircraft such as older F-4 Phantoms or the Su-17M4, creating another balance issue in the opposite direction.
Instead, I believe the long-term solution is to expand the BR range and introduce another rank for aviation.
This would allow earlier fourth-generation fighters, such as the MiG-29 (9-13), Su-27, Su-33, F-15A, F-16A, F/A-18A, and similar aircraft that primarily rely on Fox-1 missiles, to fight each other more consistently.
More modern aircraft equipped with advanced Fox-3 missiles, superior radars, and newer avionics could then occupy higher BRs without compressing everything into the current matchmaking range.
This wouldn’t just improve balance for a few aircraft—it would create fairer matchmaking across top-tier aviation as a whole and give Gaijin more room to introduce future aircraft without making BR compression even worse.
I believe expanding the BR system is a healthier long-term solution than continuing to adjust individual aircraft while the overall compression issue remains.
Thank you for taking community feedback into consideration, and I hope this idea can be considered for future Battle Rating updates.
