Phantom FGR.2 at 12.0 makes no sense

The F3 is a solid 12.0. Probably one of the stronger 12.0s and should really be 12.3 alongside the F4EJ Kai and Kurnass 2000. The issue though is one of extreme compression and the state of BOL. Both issues conspire to keep the F3 at 12.0.

FGR2 faces much the same issue. Its weaker than the other Phantoms, but whether it can move down is… a controversial topic. I dont personally see any major harm in it, but at the same time, there is a better solution.

The FGR2 and FG1 are practically identical and there is no reason to maintain that and they can both get reasonable buffs.

The FGR2 could and should get Aim-9Ls or Skyflash SuperTEMPs (there is a report for them to get them) which would bring the FGR2 on par with the other Phantoms at 12.0.

The FG1 could then maintain its current loadout and move down to 11.7.

Alternatively the FGR2 could get 9Ls and Skyflash SuperTEMPs and move up to 12.3 (with suffecient decompression) and the FG1 could just get Skyflash SuperTEMPs and remain at 12.0

No matter what, the F4JUNK should just be dropped to 11.7

Though all 3 should just get Napalm

Plot twist: what if F-4S becomes 11.7 because of F/A-18A while F-4J(UK) and F-4K/M rots in 12.0

Honestly, I think
if F-4J(UK) need to stay 12.0 forevermore
Every better phantom counterpart should go up to 12.3
(along with decompression)

This is Gaijin… so anything is possible

This is just false.

Only planes that have a better radar around that br is the fa18a 1 br step above it, the kurnass 2k radar, 21 bison, the viggen radar, the f16 radar, and might be forgetting some more

I do agree with this, although, if the fgr2 is going to be left at 12.0, might as well give it the aim 9l’s, fg1 on the other hand, its just what it is, only fair choice I see is it being moved down to 11.7.

I’ve played most of the jets at the BR bracket, me personally, the an apg61 on the FGR2 has a lot of trouble tracking targets, but one exception I do give it is in PDV, very good at keeping locks in velocity.

you mean the only mode you should ever be in except for niche, fringe, extreme cases?

“the only exception is when I choose to use the correct mode” 😭

only time to use normal pulse is when some is in look up and not chaffing and notching… in which the missile will hit always. but this never happens because everyone has half a braincell.

Youd be surprised how many kills I actually get in SRC mode in the Phantom in SB :D

In sim how do you find radar targets quickly on the fgr? as far as i know the radar screen doesnt show a targets altitude so i often struggle with lining my nose up with it

On the left hand side of the radar panel is an indicator for what angle the radar is at, if you are locked onto the target, it will be pointing directly at the target and so you can adjust your nose until that indicator is central to align your nose with the target. Its not an ideal solution but its better than nothing.

After that, its down to the Mk2 eyeball (though I find the Skyflash DFs at least a little forgiving if not perfectly aligned to the target) quite often I find myself hunting high alt zombers with nice easy to see contrails.

Though the lack of a decent HUD (im spoiled with aircraft like the FRS1 and F3) is one of the reasons why the Phantom is not a common aircraft for me to play these days.

ough i actually knew this existed but completely forgot about it 💔
i may be a tad bit slow

if you like the tornado hud i think you’d like the hud on the mirage 2000s, it has all the info youd need in wt
the f18 huds are also pretty nice however i dont actually know how to read the range scales on it

Most people use src lmao, you’re speaking as if everyone uses pdv, very little people use pdv in the fgr2.

ps: I myself don’t use it much as its very inconsistent

I always forget the British phantoms don’t have hmd… in my f4j I always just use hmd pd for everything , i almost never use the normal radar search

PDV is the best mode, no one that knows you can change to it uses SRC. It’s the entire reason the aircraft is 12.0. It’s a pulse doppler phantom. You shouldn’t be firing at anyone that’s not fast front aspect with Skyflashes. There is essentially zero reason to ever use normal SRC mode.

RSC works for medium high-altitude if youre behind of the enemy. PDV for enemys coming, RSC for pursuit

Rear aspect has a near zero PK with Skyflashes if the enemy has chaff or moves at all, you’re risking wasting your most potent weapon for nothing taking those shots

Wonderful. I didn’t know that.
