Anyone who have played top tier SB (with Ka-5x as I have mentioned) knows that there is no real balance there.
As I have said previously we have some cherrys like PE-8 being able to spawn mid-air and bomb ground units before any fighter can arrive from an altitude which makes it almost impossible for SPAA to shoot it down.
I have used BO too, and an QN is not as big problem as some portray it to be, especially that it is an event vechicle.
I would also like to know how it is a strawman argument.
I have used PE-8/Lancaster like that many times.
Because it’s irregardless of them being in or out of spawn, but you merely mention that to make more weight on your throwout because that’s all you do.
Who asked you must using SPAA to kill? I played so many fighters during the SB and everything is fine, even nato is much more better becuase the F16 and JAS39 are really amazing, ka50/52 doesn’t not OP as you think( I even wondering if you have played these 2 when gaijin buffed the VT fuze)
PE8? So it is in top tier? I don’t even know what you talking about. such kind of gamble plane you need to guess where the enemy is.
By the way, after the QN added, the nato’s helis doesn’t cancered anymore.
There is a huge difference on if enemies can even move to proper positions or not.
I have used Mi-28NM to camp at enemy airfields, so I know a little ;).

ahh, 8km my bad. Not possible unless I’m on the Type 81 C or if someone uses the Roland. Anywho, I said ill find get a proper one later since I was too late to record that one due to not paying attention, but pointless now since ur specifying 8km. Can just use Type 81 C for that if I have it in my line up lol managed to just get a screenshot. But yea, i never seen someone use that 8km out. Farthest I seen was 5km, but anything above nah out of all my games on a SAM. Just so rare.
I was able to do 8km kills with A-10A
I know. Just rare too see, I also said I forced an A-10 on a stand off when he was 10km out doing that. He couldnt get a kill nor was he able to kill me with Type 81 C. I wasted his time, but didn’t waste mine. I still shut down planes. So far only seen 3 do that in my 824 games with it.
Most players won’t be able to do much, not only in the air but also on the ground.
I am all for more planes and less big bombs, but that is not the issue, its more unrealistic than tanks is the bigger problem.
You would never have an airfield so close that your enemy can attack
You would never be able to turn up with the amount of ordinance and get home as they do in WT with an enemy as capable a stones throw away.
There is no real air superiority even though the latest road map calls it so

I’ve been noticing an uptick of CAS related threads recently so I thought it might be worth throwing my bone in just once to get my opinion across, even though it undoubtedly will be drowned out by other comments.
First to address the thread:
Yes, CAS has been effective in real life but just because something is reflected in reality doesn’t make it a fun part of the gameplay. And yes, CAS something for pure anti-aircraft SPAA to engage with and I won’t deny that. However, as the anti-CAS group have brought up before, it’s a Ground RB and if you don’t happen to have a potent pintle mount (as is the case for most minor nations), there’s very little you can do against an aircraft that strafe you continuously, breaking components and marking you out on the enemy map. Or worse, some attacker/bomber group that chose to bomb the spawn because that’s a viable option to rack up kills.
With the recent updates, I just couldn’t help but feel like CAS have seen an increase in viability. Not only are there more CAS specialty options (the A-10, SU-25s, attack drones, etc.) but then you have the aesthetic update of snow variants of maps. Sure, in the face of it, it’s a change of scenery, but the way I see it, it just makes it easier for aircraft to spot you until you have unlocked snow camo, which isn’t an option when you are trying to spade a vehicle unless you chuck GE at the Snail God.
Now, to the solutions that have been brought up time and again: spawn in SPAA/get in a plane to kill the planes. To the first idea, again, as a ground game where people hoped to play as tanks, telling them to play as an anti-air vehicle just isn’t what people sign up for. It’s like going into Air RB as a fighter and then proceed to be shot down by anti-aircraft fire and the feedback from the community is “you should play an attacker and groundpound!” It’s just not something some people would prefer to play. Same goes into climbing into aircraft, since - I must reiterate, people play the gamemode to face ground vehicle as ground vehicle. Additionally, as people have already mentioned in this thread before, the reward of killing planes in an SPAA is pathetic. Sure, you feel the accomplishment of downing a plane after spraying the skies with lead, but the scores do not reflect that in the least.
And then there’s the rebuke of “if you don’t want to play it, stop bitching and go play something else” to which I must ask…what is that something else? War Thunder doesn’t have any direct competitors in this kind of genre. World of Tanks is the closest match in terms of vehicle selection but that is more arcadey in mechanic and therefore not capable of scratching that WT itch.
So. What solution is there to this gridlock of contrasting opinions? As presented in the poll of this post, I think raising the spawn cost is the better solution. If dying to planes is a “skill issue”, then therefore making not enough contribution to spawn into planes is also a “skill issue.” But as other people have raised, perhaps it’s not as black-and-white as that, and there could be variable spawn cost based on ordnance being able to be brought into a match. Or maybe there could be a third game mode of Combined Arms RB where what is currently Ground RB (maybe even some naval in the mix) could play out there for people who enjoy it while leaving the Ground RB to be more Ground centric.
CAS is not the issue. IRL CAS is very clearly there. The topic iss that IRL no enemy plane will make it close enough to a airbase or carrier (spawn area in game)
Here CAS can go straight onto the spawn area. And this is the issue. Mig27 flying so high that no SPAA can get it out of the skies employing bombardments of the spawn area. No way.
- I am in favor of installing some fixed patriot air defenses or iron dome around spawn area in order to make it impossible to penetrate by air.
- Secondly spawn area should be randomized and never marked on map. Similar to CoD Warzone. This mitigates the spawn camping, while not removing it completely - clear.
The other issue is that CAS can only operate when there is air superiority. You can suppress CAS if you allow spawning right from the beginning of fighters. But remember, you cannot do this. You can only spawn helos right from the start. Imaging if you could spawn a F16ADF right form the start, no bombs, just AIM9L, thos KA50 spawn campers would be gone.
Another issue is that you have no clue at the start of the match what is being spawned by your team. This means that it happens that no SPAA is present at start. It should become visible to your own team who is spawning what at first.

I think people are under the assumption that CAS is put into the game for realism and gameplay reasons. I would think this is incorrect CAS is implemented so that even poor players get a kill and feel engaged in the game and not to feel annoyed and frustrated. Hence why you often get opposing team fighters spawn at 500m or less behind you when bomber or attacker or you spawn 1km or more behind an opposing bomber it is so that a hand out is given. Also it is used as above to ensure that match time is shortened and does not take too long as players have very short attention spans and the queue times are not increased.
Get in an AA and shoot them down
Get in a fighter and shoot them down
Use your god given machine gun on top of your tank
the options are there
Machine guns dont work against the F-16C 15km away who just launched a maverick rapidly approaching your vehicle
Then you spawn in a fighter or AA
