Honestly, I can’t see how preferring older or more modern machines is a matter of youth/maturity hahahah.
I’ve been preferring modern machines since I was a kid; BUT so I will even when I grow older… I just think they are neat and I can “relate”/immerse myself more with them. It’s not like I’ll suddenly change my preferences for growing older.
Back in August 2017, when New ERA was announced… THAT was the moment War Thunder became my main game for real, hahah.
I was taking a bus to meet a girl when the WT Assistant app notified me of the announcement… and my heart skipped a beat as soon as I saw it lmao. I knew it was only a matter of time that we would get to the point we are at now, and I looked forward to that.
EDIT: and that being said, there are some older vehicles which I love playing, like the Tiger Is, M4A2, T-34/85s, KV-1s, etc! But at the end of the day… I always end up going back to Top Tier xD.
I also gotta say that I used to like WW2 much more when it was actually WW2 instead of an odd fest with 2020s SPGs and 1970s ATGMs and HEATFS.
It was a second date and the outlook wasn’t too good, so I was a bit disillusioned in that particular case, in my defence hahah (our preferences differed tooooo much).
So when I got the WT pop up, I was like… “oh, yay, some good news at least xD”
I had been looking forward for modern machinery ever since 2014, so when k saw this announcement, I knew that it was only a matter of time from that point onwards.
vehicles i would remove for the only ww2 mode are all these which doesnt look like a ww2 vehicle

Here’s a quick proposal, anyone feel free to shoot it down I didn’t try very hard. Dividing line is a restoration of the 1953 cutoff date. Vehicles built before/during 1953 on one side, vehicles built after 1953 on the other, no regard for current battle ratings in deciding the initial division. Post-1953 ground vehicles currently sitting at very low BRs will likely be too sparse for proper matchmaking, so they will have to be moved up higher. These vehicles are almost always small, nearly armorless, mobile rat type vehicles with HEATFS, their scurrying/flanking opportunist playstyle in which armor is irrelevant both for them and their targets will still be viable at a higher BR, even among 2nd generation MBTs, as long as they don’t face ERA/composite armor. This is preferable to them facing WW2 tanks designed in a paradigm where armor is useful instead of dead weight.
For air and ground vehicles which were built before or during 1953 but received new ammunition types or other forms of relevant technology built after 1953 which they did not originally possess, they will have to be put on the post-1953 side in the post-1953 configuration, or the pre-1953 side without the post-1953 tech, or split into two vehicles, one on each side of the division line.
EDIT: Another way to handle this part without having to trap vehicles on one side or the other, or create duplicates, would be to allow these vehicles who straddle the division line to choose which side they fall on before entering the queue. You can have the post-1953 tech/shells/missiles but you will face post-1953 vehicles, or give up the post-1953 stuff this time and face 1953 and earlier vehicles.
For air, it is easier. Same split, same rule on post-1953 weapons/technology. One exception only: Aircraft capable of exceeding the sound barrier in level flight will always be placed on the post-1953 side. Only planes I think that would end up applying to are the F-100 and Mig-19.
The reasoning for 1953 beyond it being the old cutoff date is that pre-1953 vehicles generally resemble WW2 technology more, there is no HEATFS or ATGMs etc, no air to air guided missiles, and no supersonics in service. Any later and that stuff starts showing up. It’s a lot cleaner than a 1945 cutoff date as well, no vehicles that barely missed the war getting trapped on the other side.
My Maus has a bigger problem with CAS than facing enemy cold war era mbts, the last time I’ve took it out for a spin was almost 1 year ago, get bombed too often by losers in their stupid planes
Spoiler
It’s often enough that I can even compile shit like this
Sabre and Mig-17 variants from before/during 1953 will be on the 1953 and earlier side of the line. Sabres and Mig-17s with guided missiles will be on the post-1953 side even if the variant itself predates 1953, in accordance with the rule on post-1953 technology on pre-1953 vehicles.
It would pretty much return things to the pre-supersonic & guided missile status quo as far as the top BRs on the 1953 and earlier side of the line are concerned. CL 13 Mk 5, Mig-17, F-2 Sabre, F-30 Sabre, Hawker Hunter etc, and it would be possible to properly balance their BRs again without them facing supersonics.
To be fair, i have only seen these kinds of topics in terms of “my germany heavy needs to face weaker opponents” and never “my tank needs to face stronger opponents”
If the modern vehicle was better than WW2 vehicles it would be a higher BR, simple as that.
That and effectively ever 7.7 is cold war as the prototypes wouldn’t have began production until the cold war years anyway. See T-54 1947.
Just need some decompression, some actual thought put into the game mode, and an easter egg here or there.
(Maybe something like rush from battlefield on a large map)
The Sturmtiger is BR 5.7, while the PzH 2000 is BR 7.7; how did you manage to encounter something 2 BR higher, unless you are deliberately overtiering the Sturmtiger?
they mentioned somewhere in here that they forgot it wasn’t 6.7 because they’ve been running it in their 6.7 lineup for a while now (hope that clears up any confusion)
