Open cockpit canopy exploit needs to be eliminated

If they enforce changes which directly affect the game mode I play then yes.

All arcade mechanics from AB and RB should not be present in SB, but unfortunately they are.

Missile sounds system is one of those mechanics, made for AB/RB and negatively impacts SB.

You can’t. Unless you are standing completely still, your engine will be the loudest thing you can hear.

The exploit in question: using a keybind and the sound sliders

Oh ok, so because of every player who uses gunner sight in RB, every RB player should be forced to use it? Or every player with grass in tank sight turned on? Or the poor souls who insist on using joystick in Air RB?
Should everyone else be forced to use settings they don’t want to use just because a SMALL MINORITY insists on making their life harder?

No, it’s just gaijin being bad at making sounds.

Blaming it on AB/RB is incorrect, since those modes don’t even use 1st person.

No one is enforcing those changes.

No, loud missile sounds are here exactly because of AB/RB. They were added so they sound ‘cool’ in 3rd person game modes and give another hint to those players, like icon wasn’t already enough for them to figure out a missile is on it’s way. Another reason for the dumb and mega loud missile woosh sound is that the tankers in 3rd person mode are aware of the incoming missile.

You can hear the missile emitting the sound, when you for example overtake your own missile, which depleted all it’s rocket fuel and lost all energy. Or in a tank when a slow missile is incoming at it’s max range. Despite being slow and no fuel, the woosh sound is so loud that often gives you 2-3 seconds to react.

It is not a bad design oversight, a bug or mistake, but deliberate decision to please players in 3rd person modes.

It affects the SIM because the sound system is the same across all games modes and they just don’t bother to disable ‘woosh’ in SIM.

So yes, I blame AB and RB for all the deliberate decisions Gaijin made to make 3rd person gaming more arcade, cool, casual player friendly. All balance changes driven by AB/RB which should not take place in SIM because they are unrealistic.

And is that the players fault?

With how sound is done in ARB, it makes sense. Wind noise in nonexistent and your engine volume is quite quiet, and it makes sense for missiles, rockets, bombs, and explosions to make the sounds that they do.

Then ask for the cockpit noise to be changed to better suit sim. Blaming it on other players does nothing.

But they can change the cockpit specific noise, and they’ve already done that with the wind noise from having an open cockpit. It makes no sense that I’d be able to hear a plane crashing 500m away in a propeller plane going 650kmh.

I agree with you because I think the cockpit sounds need work, but I dislike the elitist attitude some sim players have against players who play RB/AB.

Do you have this option enabled?

I have it “ON” and I hear a supersonic missile behind me only 0.5 seconds before I’m dead.

Lies

You’re confusing options with settings.

Options such as gunner’s sight or joystick are not the same thing. They are not objectively better, they are a preference (realism vs arcade). Better graphics and sound is always better.
That’s why they are forced in sim and a choice in all the other game modes, because it’s a game design thing. That’s why we have arcade, realistic and sim game modes.

Grass in general can be a very demanding setting, so naturally a lot of people are forced to turn it off all together. The option to turn it off in sights allows people to enjoy grass and stay competitive, without forcing players with poor PCs to stop playing, which is quite a few people.
In the future when even a poor PC can easily handle grass, because a much more demanding ray tracing becomes a standard for example, it can be removed.

Graphics and sound settings should be purely about quality. Graphics is supposed to be beautiful, not advantageous, same for sound. When changing graphics or sound becomes part of the gameplay, it should be in ways such as night vision and thermals or turning off your engine.

The small minority are the dorks that use ULQ (when they have a good pc) or fly with an open canopy.

Turning down the engine sound is much more popular, since you just have to do it. Even the default settings have it turned down.
I bet the majority doesn’t want to turn down the engine volume, but has to at least a little bit, like myself.

They are a straight downgrade to the default settings. You can have a preference for them, but at the end of the day you are making yourself a worse player by doing so.

Yet ULQ is an “exploit”, like you and others have claimed. Next you’ll say the poors are all exploiters and hackers.

You can talk empty platitudes about what you think those should be, but I’m not the one trying to justify limiting player choice.

Yet if you were to ask the playerbase “would you like to not go deaf everytime your tank’s engine revs up and be able to hear enemies if they’re very close to you?”, the vast majority would say yes and do the right thing, turning the own engine sound down - which is one of the most frequent tips for new players, so its not even like they’re missing out.

If you don’t like it, you can just… turn your own engine sound up, while the rest of us enjoy not getting tinnitus.

When did I question that?

I said that having them turned on/off doesn’t objectively increase the quality of the game. These are preferences.

If you have a powerful enough PC to run higher settings, it certainly is.

2/10 manipulation attempt

Not allowing players to see through walls by lowering graphics is not “limiting player choice” lmao.

Not allowing people to fly at mach 2 with an open canopy or not allowing people to equip only their tank with an exhaust muffler also isn’t limiting player choice.

“do the right thing”

So playing on ULQ, when I have an RX 6800, so that I can see through walls is doing the right thing. Got it.

I’m not gonna bend the knee to people who throw a tantrum, when someone wants to take away their exploits.

Which sound settings do not do. You’ll know something is there, and if you’re good you’ll be able to narrow it down to a specific nation. But many tanks share engine sounds so while you’re expecting an M56 to drive around a corner, a T95 shows up instead.

The exploits in question: using a feature as intended

ULQ does.

The fact that you even argue here about sound tells me you agree that sound also lets you “see” through walls. The sheer fact you know someone’s location is huge. “bbbut you can’t tell exactly what tank it is”

Gaijin has changed ULQ so that it doesn’t give you an advantage anymore as far as I know.

ULQ doesn’t make buildings unrender, try again.

It doesn’t, and someone who doesn’t use such settings like yourself wouldn’t know.

You can use 3rd person view to peek around a corner. Or are you gonna argue that using anything but the commander cupola POV is an exploit as well?

It is an exploit when many switch on ULQ to get an upper hand. Gaijin themselves knew/know it’s an exploit which is why they modified ULQ years back and it’s still somewhat broken.

Or you could turn your headset/monitor/TV’s volume down?

It doesn’t matter, as it stands you can hear tanks coming from streets away. Tons of gameplay footage online where the content creator themself states “I hear something!” whilst driving their own incredibly loud tank at full chat. It’s broken.

In regards to aircraft it’s just as bad. Being able to hear missiles, gunfire and aircraft coming makes boom and zoom and surprise attacks almost impossible in some instances as I can clearly hear when I’m under attack. Eardar needs to go in my opinion.

…And it no longer offers an advantage. Its arguably disadvantageous now since bushes turn to a flat, opaque texture instead of having gaps in leaves and branches to look through.

So your solution to a change that would reduce player awareness is to… lower it even further? Interesting take.

Yes, and those players are often some of the most skilled around. Spookston has something like 10k hours in this game. Vast majority of players, believe it or not, don’t have 10k hours in this game and can’t do that.

And in sim it’s already gone. In RB it is perfectly fine as you are not in a cockpit, you’re a magical floating camera several meters behind your plane.

Read ULQ as custom low settings.

There are a lot of guides what settings to reduce to a minimum to see better. This applies to grass and shadows and the terrain top layer etc
If you check “Esportsmen” videos on YT, all of them use custom low settings with ~300 fps in the bottom left corner. They can play 4K@144fps at max settings, but no, it seems they can show their “skill” only by abusing visibility.

All of the fences don’t render unless you are very close, including destructible walls.

In general with ULQ a lot of clutter doesn’t render and the ground is just 1 plain color, making it easy to see tanks against such background.

It does, you just have a skill issue.

The same situation as with gunner’s sight that I already talked about.

Answer the question.

You’re creating an issue out of something that is being openly welcomed for the Simulator game mode. We don’t want hand hold fantasy external engine sounds, they don’t only break immersion but ruin the game. If your vehicle is too loud then turn your game down.

No it isn’t, it’s slightly better but it’s not gone and it’s infuriating that Gaijin won’t just completely remove external sounds from SB unless you’re motionless on the runway.

As it stands you can still hear missiles zipping by (and this is even with the cockpit closed) along with gunfire not just from the ground thousands of feet below but also behind you. You can also hear the “whoosh” when aircraft fly past.

In RB this might all be fine and I wouldn’t have a problem with it, you have a radar in WW2 aircraft after all. But in SB where situational awareness should be a major skill it’s a crutch that also hurts those that boom and zoom.

Nobody wants any of this in SB barring those that abused these mechanics (these are likely the same people that used to zomber back in the day) in the same way I’d never advocate for fixed cockpit view in RB.

Already told you, you can’t hear shit. I had an La-5 sitting on my ass and firing his guns and he was completely silent.

Ah, so its NOT an open cockpit issue. Glad we can agree.
