Go try to open the cockpit on any of the bf.109 variants.
Would this include helicopters?
The iconic IL-2 also does not have such a function (old 3D models and cockpit)
Depends on aircraft type/cockpit. Could be okay to fly at 200 kts:
Also can be flyable in emergency sit:
Spoiler
An emergency situation is not a combat flight performance situation.
Should be able to open cockpit when I want to.
But must be dazed and not hear any other sounds except the roar of the wind (depending on the speed, of course).
Then you should also risk having the canopy break off parts of your plane when it comes flying off as well, since you want it to be realistic
I’m more wondering how we can hear approaching missiles flying at supersonic speed, while missiles are faster than sound.
Russians were flying La-5s with open canopies regularly because the cockpits would leak carbon monoxide from the exhaust. So P-51s and P-47s isn’t a stretch.
Or it was just very hot from engine
but when tankers have 100% audibility for many kilometers (in reality tank is big metal box with 0 audibility), it does not break the game.
Ground battles are arcade.
But in air, cabriolet pilot can hear you on his six.
Because for some utterly bizarre reason, sound actually travelling at the speed of sound is optional in WT.
Audio is one of the biggest places that needs work. Speed of sound should not be optional, nor should we have the ability to set your own engine volume separately from other players’ in a PvP(!) game.
Your own vehicle’s (etc) sounds are also generally far too quiet, even at “normal” (all at 100) audio settings. Wind in aircraft, your own engine (ships’ engines effectively don’t have sound, it’s bizarre), gunfire, etc.
You’re right, engine sound should be set for everyone as it is now with other players’ engines on max volume and own engine on max. Helps the newer players who probably don’t know this setting exists.
As for the second part, hell no I don’t want a very skill-based part of ground battles to be outright removed.
Soviet pilots did it a lot due to poor visibility, and Japanese Pilots did it as well. Other countries. included sometimes this was done at fast paces.
So a lot of these claims are poor points that do not correlate with what occurred in the real world. So exploit it is not at all. However that said should it be a bit more difficult to pop your head at these fast winds hitting it, to the sides yes but turning your head to the side, while the cockpit is open no.
People saying “but they used to fly with canopies open in WW2” are missing the point. I don’t have an issue with your prop having the canopy open. I have an issue with you having eardar as soon as you do it. When the cockpit opens you should just hear overwhelming wind noise.
With the cockpit closed you should hear overwhelming engine noise… it’s a joke how quiet and low quality the engine sounds can be in this game… the Tempest was known for being uncomfortably loud. In game it’s whisper quiet.
It is a video game, and it shouldn’t toy with the volume, because that is bad design.
What Gaijin should do, is to not play sounds other than wind noise above a certain speed.
It should be purely based on speed so yes but i dont think most helicopters get to a speed where it would matter that much and if so yljust close the cockpit when moving fast.
