The whole bomb issue stems from explosions all starting from a single point and bombs randomly bouncing off tanks like they’re made of rubber.
Latter can and will send a smaller bomb a few meters away from the target, thus ruining any effectiveness.
Former?
Imagine you’re hitting a concave Soviet turret. If you can’ draw a straight line to hull roof (and you can’t, thanks to the rounded shape of the turret), it’s f.e. 150mm armor vs explosion. And 150mm armor in this game can stop a damn big bomb.
Of course IRL a 250kg bomb is damn big already, and explosion happens along the entire charge, with the strongest blast wave coming from the middle of the bomb, so no rounded shape is going to save your roof. In game it’s most likely the very tip, just like in the case of HE shells.
And lastly - there’s no momentum modelled anywhere 50mm HE shell point blank to 40mm armored glass part of canopy? Basically no damage, even though IRL the entire armored glass pane would go straight through pilot’s torso.
And same with bombs - the impact and shockwavenof a 250kg bomb would most likely displace a turret of a tank on a direct hit even if it somehow fails to reach any part of thin roof/bottom armor. In game? It does absolutely nothing.
Yeah I remember it going for around 20 Gaijin coins (it actually went as low as 10 GJN lol) which was an insane steal back then. Basically an up armoured, better hp/ton IS-3 with stab under 25kmh. One of my favourite heavies to play.
Insane to think you could sell BP vehicles without grinding for a billion levels and it included stuff like the T-10A, Cent Mk5, PT-76-57 and even free rewards like the F2G (one of the best SL grinders in the entire game was on sale for 5 GJN). The first BP had 3 fun and good vehicles and just 3 years later the BP has been neutered and only includes shit nobody cares about.
Yeah, even if the tank could survive blasts by all accounts crews would still be affected by the blasts. Durable it may be, invulnerable it shouldn’t be.
Sometimes it’s hard to remain good natured about inexperienced players and their… poorly thought out opinions. Especially in YouTube comment sections and what not. I don’t use Reddit so idk how it is over there, but it seems like this forum is the only place with diverse opinions about War Thunder
Reddit is 50% normal people and 50% insufferable retards and most of them never engage with anything that goes against their opinion so meaningful discourse never happens.
Is that the APHE changes they were mentioning? Cause I was thinking more the difference between bombs and their explosive loads and effects. Personal I’m disappointed in the failure of the APHE changes vote, since it was just a vote to test the changes and see how they worked. APHE definitely feels overpowered.
But eh, complex game with complex variables, things are wonky and their will always be problems.
No, Gaijin proposed to add a “stun” mechanic to tanks when hit by high caliber HE, that would shut down the tank for a few seconds, the community voted no.
I had a few games, the first 1000lbs that lands in 30m, and still can’t take it. Used to take three or four while one of them attached to the turret dome lol
So your IS-4M is more bomb-resistant than the Object 279.
Yesterday I got bombed in the Conqueror and died while in another match I took no damage from a bomb landing a few m in front of me. I have no idea what’s going on.
Based on your videos, any bomb your IS-4M ate will kill my Object 279, I will stop playing it now since it can’t eat bombs anymore, I mean who likes getting bombed by CAS anyway.
I recommend you try the IS-4M idk how long the bomb survivability stays that way but I have to warn you it’s completely unplayable in 8.3 and especially 8.7 matches.
The rule of thumb is never spawn heavy tanks in a full uptier match, although the 279 doesn’t get clubbed at 10.0 but you will often feel out of place at times, it is way too sluggish and the lack of lrf also makes hitting long-range targets tricky, then you starts seeing more light tanks that the APHE won’t even fuze. Also the APHE has a lot of problems getting through Merkavas, the weak spot is almost credit card size, would be so much better off spawning the T-62M1 as the 3BM28 has no issues going through anything except for the ufp of T-72s lol
But almost all heavies are a threat in downtier and still usable in an uptier. The Matilda, KV-1s, Churchills, Tigers and Pershings can all do ok even in a full uptier. The long reload 7.7s (except the Conqueror but that one has different problems) can’t. Think of what a Tiger 2H does to a M4A3 76mm or a T26E5 to a T-34-85. The 7.7s are nowhere near as good against 6.7s as the 6.7s are against 5.7s.
Well the 279 is arguably still overpowered and more of a medium than a heavy in an uptier. That’s why it’s so strong it’s got firepower, armor and mobility along with a reasonable reload.
Merkavas are have a weird damage model anyways. They are either an easy oneshot or impossible to kill similar to the Strv103. Hated to fight those 2 in the IT-1.
It the T-62M even worth playing? Terrible turret traverse, average mobility/armor and long reload than other MBTs.
Yes, compared to the 279, the 3BM28 has an easier time hitting targets especially fast-moving targets due to higher velocity, also the hull turns very quickly which could offset the slow turret turning, it takes a while to get used to then you realized that you could kill a lot of things the 279 struggle to kill due to reaction speed and shell velocity, it’s more uptier proof since the 3BM28 has an easier time going through composite blocks unlike the dated APHE, but it definitely lost to 279 when it comes to full downtier performance.
Also the 3BM28 could frontally kill STRV103 but the BR-482B will struggle.
